Hand It Over"essgee09" wrote:Polvo did reunite recently I believe.Cor Crane Secret was a little diffuse compared to Today`s Active. The Celebrate The New Dark Age ep was another fine effort.
The Swirlies` Glittering Salons album was good.I lost track of them there.Do you like the Drop Nineteens and Lenola? The Drop 19`s were from Boston too so a Swirlies comparison was obvious.Lenola were from New Jersey, they took on a more Flaming Lips sound later on but the early records The Swirlies and MBV were more their thing.
I have`nt exlpored much early Flaming Lips.I remember buying Polvo’s "Exploded Drawing" album and being very unimpressed. maybe I should dig it out though and give it another chance.
Drop Nineteens I remember and used to like some of but haven’t heard for years. There was a summer when Winona was on MTV all the time. A bit like the summer where MTV seemed to play Smashing Pumkins every other video. Another band I still like a lot up to a certain point. Liked a couple of tracks after Siamese Dream but not a lot. Gish and Siamese dream were, and still are amazing though. Not a fan of Billy Corgan as a person though.
I’ll look up some Lenola and give them a listen.
"mind_glow" wrote:I tried to buy Rollercoaster EP once but I got the wrong record from the web store. But I’ll buy it as soon as I find a nice and cheap one.The Jesus And Mary Chain released a "Rollercoaster EP" around the time of the tour. Is that the one you got? I remember the other bands being a bit unhappy about the JAMC calling it that at the time as it made it look like the tour was theirs and the other bands were supporting, but they were all equal billing, alternating running order each night.
"essgee09" wrote:Good list.Polvo were a bit underated,Today`s Active Lifestyles was a great record eh?Godspeed are cool.Merc Rev`s Yerself Is Steam is a fave of mine.Swirlies were great(Blonder Tongue Audio Baton!).The VU cool too.Beefheart yeah!I dig the Breeders too.Polvo were very underated yes. they did another album later on that wasn’t so good though. Todays Active Lifestlys and Corcrane Secret were both good though. I thought I read about them reforming recently?
Swirlies similar. Started great. First album / EP with Tall ships and Blondertongue were good, then they got a bit tamer and lost it a bit.
Yerself Is Steam is definatley the Mercury Rev Album.
Early Flaming Lips did some amazing stuff too. Especially out-takes, b-sides and radio sessions etc.
Hmm – can I spend another £15 for the 4 extra tracks? Not sure. Already spent £19 on the vinyl.
Are we still being seriousley ripped off in the UK. What is £19 in U.S Dollars right now?
Ok — I’ve managed to find a place to balance my record player on top of the piano out of reach of small hands. Got the 10" out and listened to the version of The Post. Does anyone have the Melody Maker Rollercoaster EP? The version on the 10" has lots of noise at the end and then fades out as "They Always Come" starts.
It might be easier for me to record the 10" into the computer than track down the Rollercoaster sampler. If I can find somewhere to balance the computer too…
Listening to them (edits of songs though) on myspace. Sounds great.
other old favourites..
Breeders
Polvo
Set Fire To Flames
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Mercury Rev
Swirlies (some)
Velvet Underground
Tall FIrs
Captain Beefheart
No-Neck Blues Band
Arthur RussellNot familiar with Bardo Pond. I did used to have a Bevis Frond album on the b-side of the tape of Bug that I kept in the car. Their name rhymes. Does that count?
Going to look up Bardo Pond.

sadly our local vinyl shops have closed down and the chances of anoen else stocking deluxe US imports is minimal. Really sad considering I live in a major city in the UK too.

Thanks Dino

If anyone knows of any more versions please post
I’ve gone for this one from your ebay link too. thanks.
What tracks are we missing out on then? The extra four from the deluxe US CD?
Feels weird getting it through ebay. I’d still rather search record shops for it. Got fond memories of waiting in the rain outside Our Price in Hereford for it to open so that I could buy Start Choppin’ the day it came out. That was back in the day that I never made it out of bed before 1pm, so that was me showing some dedication!
Not quite the same as clicking the "buy it now".
similar stuff..
MBV
Sonic Youth
Spacemen 3
Swervedrivercould be a long list as I like loads from Dub through to some Kate Bush and loads of guitar noise stuff.
