I am really loving "Back to Your Heart." Who agrees?
The songs I have heard so far are amazing. Of course I will buy the CD. It’s ridiculous to even have to say that considering how much money I have spent on airfare to see shows, rare import vinyl etc. But waiting is so hard and I LOVE these songs.
Any word on whether it will be released on vinyl?? If so, when? My husband’s birthday is May 4th and I would love to get it for him.
Oh Jesus I am so excited..

I stopped at a random gas station in Portland, OR one dark, rainy night. The bathroom was locked so I asked the clerk for a key. She let me in and said, "Be careful. I’ve had to clean a lot of needles out of here tonight, but you look like a nice girl." Ugh.. I was thinking peeing in the woods might be a better idea after that comment..
Tom- I teach composition at the Univ. of Memphis. I am a grad student there. It doesn’t pay anything, although it does cover the cost of my school. I literally make enough per month to buy groceries and socks. Insurance is out of the question. It definetly isn’t about the money. (I think any teacher would have to agree!) I am passionate about my work (teaching and research) and I don’t think I could be luckier to do what I do. I’m not sure that I would be good with kids. Although some of my students are non-traditional adult learners, I primarily teach 18-24 year olds who don’t have a lot of life experience. You would think they would be happy to be there, but not everyone loves school. They do know how to tie their shoes at least!
About the occasional grammatical slips, I make them all the time on here! Is anyone keeping tabs??
Tom- I know you have said it before, but what subject do you teach??

p.s. your dog looks like he likes the cooking too..
Last time I came to New Orleans, I was a strict vegetarian and not legal to drink. I think it is about time I made my way down.
With the onslaught of Food Network television and movies about wine, etc., the term "Foodie" refers to one who is obsessed with fine cuisine and wines. We basically buy top quality ingredients and enjoy the process from food selection, to cooking, to preparation and plating, and finally, to eating. We look for innovative ingredients and techniques when cooking and dining. We don’t consume blindly, and we love to take a new city’s restaurants by storm. It sounds pretentious, but it is what it is..

I was horrified to learn he’s a vegetarian — all that great bbq in Memphis, and he’s having none of it! Sacrilege!I actually just broke my vegetarianism a few months ago. My husband and I both have a 12+ year track record of vegetarianism and, at times, veganism. I decided to start eating fish last fall when I had a lot of weird health problems come about. One day I was on campus, and I just got the notion to have a chicken sandwich. Just like that, 12 years of strict vegetarianism went down the drain! I feel okay though. Sometimes I get a tinge of guilt. I am such a "foodie" (I hate the term, but it fits)
I have never eaten BBQ. Supposedly, Memphis is the world capital of BBQ, but I have never touched the stuff! Crazy, huh?
"tonas " wrote:Thats awesome Tubby, it seems like there are quite a few highly educated people around these boards. I know BetteDavisLies is working on her PhD, isn’t Severed Lips as well? And to think I’m super stoked just to be finishing my Bachelors Degree in a few months.
The crazy thing is that King Tubby’s colleague from his university just started as a professor at my university. Who knew the Freakscene board could have so many short degrees of separation??

Between researching for and writing the dissertation, preparing articles for publication in journals, and sending out application packets for postdocs and visiting positions, I listen to music, cook, drink, and get high. Sometimes I do all of the last four at the same time…..like I will in a couple hours.Ditto
(Still haven’t met your friend Scraba yet!)

I think calling Sydney the "the Dolly Parton of cities in Australia, the most vacuous" was unfair. Being a Tennessee girl, I can think of plenty of women more vacuous than Dolly. Try the Paris Hilton of cities. But then again, she really is representative of American culture. Thanks for the interesting read. I might have to share this with the class.

i wonder what the smallest size would be…a 6 mens i reckon?The smallest size is a men’s 8. I wondered that too. I could wear a men’s 6.
As far as the "book queer" goes, I am assuming Tonas is talking about my profession: English teacher and grad student. I also happen to get pretty turned on by the smell of old books. Walking down library aisles gives me the same sensation that some people get from strip clubs!!
But, on the subject of Grey’s Anatomy, being a "book queer" has NOTHING to do with liking the show.
