Thanks, girl! I begged and begged, but twelve hours is a bit much. To think, he was the one who actually got me into Dinosaur years ago when we met. Here I am with bribes trying to convince him that 24+ hours on the road is not too much for an evening with our favorite band. I guess this just means that they’ll have to do another long tour. Oh well!
Anyone want to carpool down from Tennessee?? I am trying to talk my husband into making the twelve hour trip.
I think it looks great. However, I am not sure that anyone will know who the hell you are! I am going as a German bar maid. My husband is usually a satanic priest or a Nascar Redneck. We’ll see which one he picks this year!
Tonas – I know I said it on Myspace (on time, too, I might add) but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I am sorry that I have been absent from Freakscene. School = Kicking my ass.
"goods " wrote:Actually, it’s not my first post. I’ve lurked here for years, but rarely post and forgot my password. So when I reset it yesterday I guess I got booted to newb status, so please, haze/flame at will, but remember, I’m sensitive. It’s just funny that people get all gung ho about this, toss around the sellout bullshit and then go listen to Dinosaur on their ipod which is manufactured just like the shoes they love to hate. Pretty much most of the things you own are manufactured that way. I’m assuming you are using a computer when you post this stuff right? Guilty.
I’m not associated with Nike other than having a friend that works for them and I don’t fly a nike flag or anything, but get the facts straight. We live in a fucked up World. If governments are gonna allow this to happen then of course capitalists are gonna take advantage of it. It’s the American way. So unless you’re living off the land like the unibomber please spare me.
How ya like me now?

Don’t worry though, I’m gonna crawl back under my rock soon enough.
If you have been lurking here for years, then you would know that your long-winded post has nothing to do with me. (See previous pages) It is just funny when I see such defensive dialogue on a thread and the user behind it only has one posting under their belt. Just an observation..

Tonas: Did you check out Jeremiah’s pics link a few posts ahead this one?? Notice anything in particular from the pics of J??
Thanks Jeremiah.. I still can’t believe it.. Any news on whether or not the new shows will be cancelled?
If this is some sort of a prank, it really is a sick one. However, I found it hard to believe that anyone could make this up. This information came from here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=63426445&MyToken=61a99210-1b32-4513-af36-6fc8ef1d6fc8
I can’t imagine that these guys have any reason to put out a crazy rumor. This is the same shit that happened to Sonic Youth a few years back.
"goods " wrote:Of course sweatshop labor sucks, but I’d really like to know what all of you boycotters are wearing on your feet. Pretty much everything is manufactured the same way. Even Vans who used to have the slogan Made in the USA is no longer made here.At least Nike is building skateparks and soccer pitches for kids. So they are giving back, and the sb line only sells to core skateshops which really helps them out because you don’t really make much on skateboard hardware. Anyone that wants a pair should look for your local skateshop that sells Nike SB shoes and ask them if they’re getting them.
My friend works for SB so I’m lucky to have a free pair headed my way when they’re done. Personally I think they’re pretty sick. Dinosaur has been such a big part of skateboarding that it’s the perfect marriage. I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing the reason that J isn’t getting any money is prolly because the run is somewhere in the 2-4,000 range which isn’t much.
It still sucks for the kids making them, but like someone else said a lot of the responsibility falls on their governments for allowing it to happen.
Kind of off topic, but if you like Dinosaur you should listen to my friend Scout Niblett. I recently interviewed her for the skate magazine the Journal which comes with a zine. I asked legendary skateboarder Mark Gonzales to draw some things with questions to which I would hand off to Scout to draw things with answers. The result is the zine which comes with the mag. I think it turned out pretty well.
Wow.. What a great way to make new friends in your first and ONLY post thus far on the freakscene board..
Hand It Over is definetly not my favorite album either.. I don’t hate, but I rarely listen to it and even then I find myself skipping around to hear just a few tracks. My favorite on that CD would probably be Sure Not Over You
Wow.. I looked for your friend Scraba on the U of M website and I found him listed as a professor under the people search. He is teaching this semester in Early American Lit. I will definetly make a point of finding him and introducing myself. It is unreal the connections I make on this humble Dinosaur site.
I think the very fact that you are tackling rhetorical traditions in your dissertation in lit studies just shows how intelligent and brave you are. I don’t have as much of a background in rhetoric, though it does interest me. At U of M, more than half of our time as so-called lit majors is spent studying theory. (We have a lot of cali-profs who relocated to the south to spread the gospel of Derrida.) It is okay with me.. I love theory.
Both of my comp classes have 25+ students and the grading load is outrageous. We do not have as rigorous a program as you guys, but our classes are packed full. We are an urban university with a very difficult task teaching writing to inner-city school system kids who did not get the best college writing foundation. This is coupled with a mix of ultra-rich, white, upper-class, suburbanites who don’t really want to be there but do it to please the parents. Did I say I love it? I actually do..
As far as the academic community is concerned, I try not to be too much of an ass. My first year of grad school I coined the term "academons." Believe me, I know department politics.
BTW, there just so happens to be some other people on this board with ties to the U of M. They never post, but I found this out in a round-about way. Good luck with that dissertation writing…
I think they got married in mid-2004. I am pretty sure when we saw him in Oct of 04 with the Fog in Knoxville, he had a wedding band and my husband and I were baffled. I could be a little foggy on the dates though.
Good one..
I tried taking Japanese my freshman year of undergrad. Ummm.. Let’s just say I ran screaming from the room and never looked back..
Tubby – U of M is University of Memphis. I am not familiar with Jeff Scraba. This happens quite a lot though because I never make it to any of the department parties. Assuming he teaches lit, could he maybe have joined in the spring or something. I usually know everyone in lit/textual studies. I am working on my Ph.D coursework in Textual Studies at the U of M. I love it. It isn’t like having a job or anything because it is exactly what I would be doing if I could be granted my wish for a perfect life. Congrats to you for being at the dissertation level. Where will you go from there? Do you currently teach? I teach composition, but if I am good, maybe they will give me some lit next spring.
Lisa: agreed.. their music lacks luster to my ears..
