I am feeling you pain all the way. I’m not sure if I want to comment on any one person or band as bad as I want to though. I don’t want to offend anyone. I do have a few choice comments I may have to make however.
Chris
One last question for anyone and it may be a dumb one for may of you. When I burn MP3’s to a CD is there any converting of the file type necessary so that the CD can then be played in my car or DVD player which I use to listen to my audio CD’s? I have seen things now on the market that says it will play MP3 CD’s, so that is how I got the question. I would rather not begin the process of getting a burner, burning MP3 files to a CD to then not be able to play them in my normal devices.
Thanks, Chris Deepsludge,
Happy to help out. I have to say the game pad will give you much better control. I don’t own a force-feedback version, which is no big deal to me because as much as I play it is worth not having to use the keyboard all the time. I think the Microsoft that I have is like less the $20, you can program all the buttons for options you want and were you want to put them on the pad. And now the stuff you need to know.General Gameplay
Accelerate – A (you can also use the keypad to accelerate turn and break)
Steer right/left – ,/.
Brake – Z
Pause – P
Instant Replay – R
Restart Race – Y
End Session – ESCAll the Difficulty settings are the F1-F11 keys.
There are also keys for Advanced Driving controls and on the fly pit strategy controls. Also Display Settings, Camera Settings and Swing Cam Controls. If you don’t have an up to date system for serious gaming I recommend you don’t use many high level settings for Displayed items. It will only slow down the processing and make the image look really jumpy. I have many options turned off and many others set to Low if necessary. I’m on a Pentium III, 125 RAM 450 and it seems slow to me for sure at times. There is also a Multiplayer option (could be cool). Just to also let you know this isn’t like Playstation, so you are not given a car that is able to make it around the track really well and then you can fine tune it to your driving style. So getting a good car set up seems impossible to me at this point because of all the options. If you can’t find the other keyboard options from an online resourse I’ll get the rest to you just let me know.deepsludge, FC, Carl., (yeah, we know), Mattman
Many thanks to all of you for helpful info and great reminders for me to look into before I lay down the $.I have to check out a few more places online tonight before I make any final decision. I’m confident if I want to install an internal I could do it myself.
Carl., I did think about the power supply thing and if it would make a diff in preformance/speed as well. I still have to check into it. From what I remember about TDK it does have NERO, which you said was good I’ll double check TDK.com I guess to be sure.
As far as taking up a USB port the only other thing I’m using a USB port for is my Microsoft game pad (for playing F1 2002) – any hints to that game are welcome too.
I’m sure this Topic and question will be just the first in a series that will come from me. I can’t thank you all enough for being helpful so far. I’ll be sure to share other "geeky Tech Chat" with everyone of course as I’m finding it myself which I hope will help someone else. I’ll keep everyone posted on my efforts.
Sincerely, Chris
I think mine is obvious. Although after reading everyones, it seems like I’m the only one to use a line from a J song?
I think it fits my thinking
Chris
Thanks everyone for your comments. Now I have a few places to check out and an idea about software. I’m be sure to be on the lookout for NERO Burning.
One last thing I’ll ask…what do you think about just buying an external cd burner as an option? I know we are talking more money on avg. from what I’ve seen. Pros – Cons – anyone – anyone ???
Thanks, Chris
Priss,
Thanks for the info about the show. Sorry to hear about a fight at the start of J’s set. Can’t we all just get along?
I would love to know if J said anything about the fight. Although depending on the situation sometimes it is just better to let the bouncers do the talking and escorting of the peeps that can’t play well with others.
If anyone wants to fill us in on other accounts, please do so, we would love to read them.
Take care all you good natured Freakscene.net friends. Chris
Hi Jonnybuds,
Welcome, you will meet a lot of great people! Keep checking the Board, always full of great info.
Chris
Sarsaparilly brings up another topic all together in my opinion regarding parents and music I listened to growing up.
So far the topic is still…The first album YOU bought yourself. I’ll add the new one in a day or two. This will be too good, please just be patient.
Carl. "Wheels in the sky"
ChrisAnthonyg,
How about that you are popular! I still can’t get in, too much traffic I am a patient person, well trying to be.
Chris
Carl. I didn’t remember this topic either. I did want to clarify something however. "Where you Been" was the first J or dino album I ever got. If you must know the first album I remember buying was many years before. I’m sure everyone knows Journey, I bought there album "Escape" on tape when it came out. I still own it and could find it if I needed to. (Don’t ask me why I remember odd stuff lke this)
Still a good topic and I’m going to check out the link too.
Chris
Thanks Rosa,
for reminding me of two drummers I was just not thinking of at all until you mentioned…stamina, and is precise as a machine.
If you want uncompromised, faster in concert then on the album, punishment to the extreme, then your band is……….. SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the original drummer who is now back with the band is Dave Lombardo. Dave was replaced by Paul Bostaph for a while, the importance of mentioning Paul is that just when I thought it couldn’t get any faster and more technical, Paul turned it up a notch. These guys can’t be touched in my opinion
Chris
Anthonyg,
I know what you mean about the other albums on the shelf. Most of the private/local cd/album stores in my area have a copy or two of something from J. When I went to Media Play to get "Ear Bleeding" I had to ask after looking if they even had a copy. The guy who worked there looked it up and said they "should have one copybut had no idea why he couldn’t find it". I spent another 15 min. looking for it…on my own (good customer assistance is so hard to get these days ) I did find it in a nother letter of the alpha. The first album I ever got of J’s was "Where You Been" (I love that album ). I feel J got a lot of promo from that album as well, seemed like the record promotion guys had J in good with MTV during those years.
Chris
The story about the RIAA getting knocked off was FUNNY AS HELL! Congratulations to whoever did that one your my new hero
Way to go RIAA with your "no named spokesperson" comment. I’m sure you had a lot of time to think your comment up while you tired to find out what the hell happened.
Cool topic Salamiguy,
I really agree with Stewart Copeland(The Police). He really sounds good on all the Police stuff.
I have to add the second I saw the topic….
Neil Pert (Rush)…If you are into drumming this guy really adds so much to all of there songs. Not to mention that he used to write most of the lyrics as well. I’m not sure if he still does.
If you love him or hate him I also have to add
Tommy Lee…I know what I’m sure many are thinking. If you had the chance to see him go round and round and upside down back in the day as I did, it makes you forget all the news you hear about the guy now. If nothing else he put on a show for the masses Chris
To:…Jaron, hamicus steakum, AndrewD, deepsludge, anthonyg, Javro, rosa, ammaringnyc
and anyone else that has given this topic a read and for your help and ideas as well.As I may or may not have mentioned before I’m still on the trail of albums sold. During the last few days I have found some interesting stuff during my hunt. Some stuff you may not care about, and some stuff I’m sure you will really not care about.
Seems that in order to get any realy information from BillBoard.com you really need to have a subscription to be able to log in. I think I saw that the basic membership was like 6 months for $155; seems a little hi and I would rather use the bucks to travel to see J. (I think you would agree )
SoundScan is not helpful at all. They give No information, Unless you are a member. At least with BillBoard you can look at basic charts of sales for whatever it is worth.
I did find something of possible interest. The place is http://WWW.chartattack.com This is a chart for CANADIAN CAMPUS/COMMUNITY RADIO AIRPLAY. Kind of cool. They have some other good info for you to check out. There photo section my be of some interest to a few of you since they give the story with the photo and most of what I saw was photos of bands/people from live shows. Most inportant about Chartattack, although I didn’t find anything about album sales/totals I did find the listing for J & the Fog on the chart of Top 50 Albums. One was for the week of Oct. 13th and Oct. 27 of 2000. Looks like J got as high on the chart as 25th. Before and after these days I didn’t see J listed. You can check the chart out at.. http://www.chartattack.com/charts/college/old50/oct2000/20001013.txt
I also wanted to say that I checked out Ultimatum Music and J is not listed under Artists, but did find that you can still buy the album from them since he is still listed ONLY under Releases, that I could find.
I also checked out Artemis Records. J is not listed as an Artist and when I looked I saw no news about him. I guess in regards to Ultimatum and Artemis it should be no surprise if J is considering a new label or other options not to be listed (I guess ).
OK I just wanted to let everyone know that my hunt is not over! My next step will be contacting Ultimatum and Artemis and see if J’s "press people" would be willing to be of some assistance as well. I will also be contacting the local independant radio station, which has played J & the Fog (and yes I heard them playing J myself), to see if they could be of assistance as well. I just wanted to let everyone know so we are not over lapping any efforts. Maybe the next post I make will really have good info to it. Thanks for reading this if you took the time
Sincerely, Chris
