in my opinion, the reissues are a waste of money. they sound the same to me, and the origionals aren’t THAT hard to find. The only reissue i bought was the self-titled one because the sound on my vinyl version is kinda wack, but the reissue sound is even more wack. I guess I’m used to the reissues from the melvins and the meat puppets, where there are like 15 extra tracks and better sound (not to mention awsome liner notes written by the artists themselves, not just a bunch of other people kissing their asses). Dinosaur is still the best rock band ever though. i just don’t like these reissues.
because dinosaur jr. only put out three albums
July 19, 2005 at 7:38 am in reply to: Why Moshers/ Crowd Surfers Are Annoying Assholes, pt 1 #111117moshing can be quite annoying. but the one show on this tour i’ve seen was kind of surreal from the lack of movement.. this one knuckle-head next to me was actually trying to talk on his cellphone during dinosaur’s set.
and I also couldn’t believe that there wasn’t even a line outside the club when i got there. i was only about 30 minutes early and i was like the 9th person in line. i was dissapointed by the lack of enthusiasmi was at this show too. i had a great time. i think it was the only show i’ve ever been to where i enjoyed the opening acts just as much as the main band. a lot of people didn’t seem to dig Magik Markers, but I thought they were great. Quite intense… i got scared for a minute when the singer (Elisa) started grabbing people’s heads.
Superchunk sounded great too. Believe it or not, it was the first time i’ve heard them. And of course, Dinosaur was genius. My only "complaint" is that the crowd seemed really unenthusiastic about it. I was going nuts, of course, but everyone around me was just kind of standing there. I guess some people were in awe, but one guy next to me was text messaging on his cancer-phone almost the entire time. oh well, i had a blast.what great pictures! J actually looks enthusiastic!
when i saw him a few years ago, he barely moved. As far as autism is concerned, who knows? I remember reading a review he wrote of a Mudhoney concert a while back and it was hilarious and very descriptive. not very autistic, in other words. but then again, people write differently than they talk most of the time. the jacket does seem autistic, however. i used to go to school with an autistic person who wore a green UMBRO jacket EVERYDAY for two years. I don’t remember much else about him except that he could whittle pencils into really detailed figures and add like crazy in his head.
anyway, i’m definately looking foward to see J and his jacket on the 10th!i’ll be at the Cat’s Cradle show.
the one time i saw J (february 2003) it seemed like every song gave me chills. Of course, this may have just been the volume vibrating my spine.
I think volume really adds alot to J’s songs. Allthough I value my hearing greatly, i dont really like it when a live band is playing at the same volume that i listen to their cd at… CKY for example… i saw them a few days after J and it didn’t move me at all..physically or emotionally
i think there is a listen to CKY shirt too…
i dont know "outside" but here is an attempt at the title track’s riff..

i remember this sounding fairly close when i played it along with the cd… the second chord is kind of if-y, but i am sure i remember him using a capo on it when he played it live.. i was working on trying to get the solo figured out but i never finished.. i hope some other people have tabs off of that cd. prefferably "set us free"…yeah, those things arnt cheap. there are a couple in a local music store for about 3500 each… i cant tell what year they are because they only let "serious investors" go into the room where they are, but i know that one of them is sunburst and the other is a really worn down surf-green kind of color. they look pretty nice, so maybe that is a reasonable price, but then again im a bass player so i don’t know that much about vintage guitars..
ive always liked the first album better than green mind.. Dinosaur Jr. could have put out so much more good stuff if Lou and J had stayed together. but i guess its hard having two really creative people with different visions in the same band… like frank black and kim deal… like Nigel Tufnel and David st. hubbins….
its a drag for me to try to type out tabs, but if you download a live version of out there, the bass is very easy to pick out.
my way of discovering dinosaur jr. isnt really wierd or funny… i had heard two J songs(in skateboarding videos, of course) but i didn’t know he was in dinosaur jr. about two years ago i saw the "ear bleeding country" CD in a used bin and since it was only 4 bucks, i thought i would buy it , because i heard they were really good. when i was paying for it, the clerk said something about J putting out a new album soon, and i was like"woah, J was in dino?! Ill be back for the rest of their cds!" THE fascinating END
i don’t really agree with J or shackleford. I guess i just don’t know enough about whats going on with the government to like it or feel threatened by it. maybe if i ever went to airports or watched TV i would feel differently..
AFI’s old stuff is listenable, but "sing the sorrow" was pretty lame.
