And the Datsuns
Quote:Free So Free is, dare we say it, a better album than anything in Mascis’s Dinosaur Jr back-catalogueWhat the……?

Equal to maybe, but to ignore all of Dinosaur Jr’s great work just like that!!
(Just my opinion)May 11, 2003 at 12:17 am in reply to: Anybody no where to find the guitar magazine pics of J’s gea #93338Hi everyone,
The scans from Maximun Guitar Magazine, July 1997 of J’s Gear are finally up – in the scanned articles & reviews section of the photo album. Enjoy (I think most of the text is just readable)
Quote:anything else on YLAOM does’nt sound the least bit outdated after 20 years.I totally agree about all of Dinosaur’s old stuff. I was thinking earlier today about how there’s heaps of stuff I used to listen to that sounds kinda dated today, but Dinosaur Jr is always fresh. I never used to be that keen on ‘Start Choppin’, but now I absoultely love it. I think I will have to go home a listen to ‘Where you Been’ as soon as I finish this damm assignment. Anyway, back to work…

May 2, 2003 at 11:11 pm in reply to: Anybody no where to find the guitar magazine pics of J’s gea #93335I have some scans – how can I add them to the board or site? Would anyone like me to e-mail them (they take up heaps of disk space) ?
Wellington tickets are available from Ticketek, not sure about Auckland.
May 1, 2003 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Anybody no where to find the guitar magazine pics of J’s gea #93334I have a guitar mag article on J and his gear – I will try and scan it and add it to the board
Neil Young kicks arse
I just watched the Rust Never Sleeps concert the other week – brilliant. In ‘Our band could be your life’, J seems to acknowledge Neils’s influence but notes that he has always liked the The Stones more (or something like that). Personally I have never noticed more than a small similarity between J and Neil.‘I don’t know for sure’ is another sweet song. Has anyone heard ‘The Posies’ tribute to Grant Hart named (surprisingly) ‘Grant Hart’. The Posies are up there with Dinosaur Jr as one of my favourite bands. Haven’t listened to them for ages though – it’s probably time I dusted off my collection.
Can’t wait – just got my ticket on Friday (damm cheap too) and plane tickets as well

I imagine we will be able to get them here in NZ – at least by import. I managed to get the first Dino LP at a market for $10 in mint condition

Reissues will be sweet as I have only got a copy of ‘YLAOM’ on vinyl (it’s good to have a copy on CD as well) and I have never been able to get ‘Fossils’ (though I have all the songs on singles). mjw666, last time I was in Wellington, there were a few CD reprints of the ‘Furry Little Things’ single with the excellent version of Frampton’s ‘Show me the Way’ on it at Real Groovy (in case you haven’t already seen it) – I have an old crustly copy in a cardboard sleeve.I think ‘set us free’ is one of the best songs J has done – the verses have a great athem feel. I listened to it after a few drinks one night and it sounded especially cool and faster than usual

I’m going (I think you mean the 18th May though)
For years I had resigned myself to the fact that I was never going to see J live, so you can imagine my surprise when I heard he was coming – can’t wait
I think that listening to derivative, soulless music like Creed and Linkin Park has warped your mind.

Dinosaur Jr’s discography definetely has a historical progression and Bug is one amazing part of that. Songs on that album are pure brilliance (though I consider all Dinosaur’s songs to be) – some of my favourites are ‘Yeah we know’, ‘Budge’, ‘Let it ride’ and ‘Pond song’ could possibly be the best song ever! I suggest you get a copy on vinyl as it suits the production values, pour yourself a beer, sit back and let the music re-tune you mind.

OK – I just read that the bug review was a joke, oh well. -
