I’m generally a happy guy, but for pick-me-uppers the Meat Puppets are at the top of my list. The deep/strange/etc lyrics and twanginess of the music just makes it hard to be depressed.
As for Dinosaur Jr, I’m not sure if it’s ever really cheered me up, but it’s helped get me through some tough times. Keep in mind that I haven’t been into them for all that long, and that I generally don’t turn to music as a primary means to pick me up. Not to say it doesn’t help, though.
EDIT: Now that I think more about it, Green Mind does cheer me up a bit from time to time primarily due to the overall feel of the album as well as some personal memories that I associate with the album.
Thanks for the welcome, everyone!
nadineny, your orange cat in your picture looks almost identical to my cat Oliver. Does he/she have orange eyes as well?
REM – Murmur
Meat Puppets – Meat Puppets (when I can’t listen to anything else, I listen to this)
Mark Lanegan – The Winding Sheet
Twilight Singers – Twilight (as played by the…)
Pearl Jam – Ten
Toad the Wet Sprocket – Fear
Stone Temple Pilots – Core…I wouldn’t really count all of these as the "best" per se, but they’ve certainly supplied me with some quality enjoyment.

Haha, this picture has "stalker" written all over it…

I’ll be going to Utah State University this next Fall, in which I’ll be majoring in Wildlife Sciences. I’m not sure if I’ll be a Freshman, though. I’ll have around 44 credits upon entering, so I don’t know where this would put me class-wise.
