Just play what sounds good.
Use j’s playing like you would if you were a painter or even an mma fighter. Undertsand and learn the style and then incorporate it into your game, but don’t ape it.it’s easier to rent over there. different electrical set-up which will kill your roaming gnome and blow up your amp.
real quick. I love guitar center. because they placed the order form Rickenbacker for the 58 325 Reissues. They were one of the first big chains to get them and after the beatle frekas bought them, they sat on them. And I got mine for $900 w/case. They listed for $3100.
Rick dealers had 18 moth waits. They were not happy.I am in the process of getting a J Jazzy. Gotta finalize the deal. We’re still talkin’ case.
First impressions. The one I’m picking up is well made. Tight neck pocket. Set up great. The Pu’s sound like my Japanese ’66 RI. which is very close to the real 66 I’ have. The bigger frets make it more gibson-y. The bridge is the best leap forward in Jazzy tech. I hope it will be available as an accessory. I wailed on this thing thru a ’69 super lead for few minutes at closing time. It seemed to stay in tune well. it gets the sound. The bridge!!! Dammit the bridge!!!! I report later when I pick it up…..
Thank god they put the gibson style bridge on this puppy. I wonder if they’ll sell it separately because most aftermarket bridges still aren’t right even with "f" spacing.
The jazz/jag bridge even the mustang (although it has improved saddles) is an unmitigated piece of shit.I want to try one out. I hope they put them out SOON!!!!!
I have an old one (66) and new one(66 ri/cij). The CIJRI was the closest to the old one I had already. I tried some US RI, didn’t do it for me. Although nice guitars, the PU’s were not right. My old one has what is considered a B profile and the CIJRI matched it.
OHHHH, that cream and blue russian big muff is my peronal favorite. That big switch sucks, but the most crazy ass-Pumpkins uber gain then it does the J thing for single notes.
Try a DOD classic fuzz. It comes in a rusty orange box. They are cheap here in the us(don’t know how they’d be iin NZ). It is great, underrated fuzz. Dime it and it will be good.
Somewhere on this board is a pic of J’s set-up(the CAE switcher) I believe there were(labeled on board)2 muffs, Bosstone fuzz, various marshall preamp buttons and a/b box for clean dirty? + his effects and a wah. Search it.
Yeah, the music is pretty powerful. The old stuff brings back memories. a phrase like "gotta connect with you girl, but forget how"….god, I could tear up thinking about that song.
The new stuff is just like…I don’t know. It sounds like Dinosaur and just makes me smile. Most reunions suck, unfortunately. This one, so far so good! I get up just about everyday and listen to the new tunes before doing anything.
What do you want? I can find anything. Seriuosly. I just bought another blackface(66) showman head for $400.
It’s loud as hell, tube, vintage and indestructible(if you don’t put the wrong tubes in it!). Send me a PM and I’ll find what you’re looking for at the price you want to pay. Those Carvin heads with the four or five band eq’s are the STEAL of the year. All you guys pining for those awesome, but overpriced 800’s should try them out. They can be bought for like $200. 100 watts, some close to plexi circuits and totally undervalued. You could have two stacks, just like our man J, for under $1000.
The key is to get to know the shops and the people who work there. Don’t "f" around. be knowledgable about what you’re looking for(prices, problems, recent sales). Let people know what you’re looking for. Don’t dick around on price. haggle, but know what you’re buying, so the negotiation is short and smooth.Do not be afraid to walk away. Do not be afraid to pull the trigger. Have cash. Money talks, BS walks. I’m willing to bet that there is good vintage stuff where you are. But like anywhere, the best stuff never hits the showroom floor. That’s why you’ve gotta network. My guys call me when things I’m looking for come in. I se them before they hit floor and usually walk out with a reasonable, if not great deal. And there’s always Ebay…but I’m not giving up all secrets that easily.
I was so disappointed when I saw this originally. It was originally printed in guitar world I think.
I mean they had years of various cheese metalists pontificating throughout issue after issue of utter bullshit and then this article comes out
and IMO, other than the info about the bridges, it leaves much to be desired.. You would think this would be like the Jimmy page and Jeff Beck sitting down together. But no. I don’t think they liked the interviewer much.April 8, 2007 at 2:29 pm in reply to: This is our band. Check it out. There’s more than a little D #123572Cool, thanks man!.
Nah haven’t tried the looper. The clsoest thing I have to that is the danelectro backtalk. Does loop but does some cool quasi-backwards moves.
Have you guys seen the new Boss/Fender Modeling pedals?
Bos struck a deal with fender to do their digi-magic and clone tweed amps and blackface amps. Haven’t heard it yet, but like usual why buy a pedla that sounds like a cranked tube amp when you can just buy a tube amp? but if it works, then you don’t have to take your old stuff out.
Of course we all know that the audience has no clue whether your playing a 59 les paul or a 95 schlepaphone.
Are you looking for the Feedbacker/Distortion? It’s cool, but I found it wasn’t as cool as advertised. I dumped mine. I had some trouble coordinating the feedback stomp to hold the right note. I just turned up my guitar/pedlas/amp for instant feedback if waanted.
We’re playing this weekend. I’m going 100% Jazzmaster. Not even gonna bring the Flying V. The guys in the band said they like the sound of the Jazzy better. That and I made them listen to Dino’s catalog for the past three years.
Now a pan pedal or tremolo pan is interesting. Especially with two amps. I love being able to have the wah, phaser and or flanger going thru different cabs. Great stereo sound. Really shines with one guitar. Lost in the shuffle w/two. I wonder if the pan will whip the signal around like Led Zeppelin or MBV.
I’m dumping a bunch of my old pedlas just because as far a studio use, they’re okay. But live they are nearly as unrelaible as our ex drummer when it come to general functionality but also fluxuations in voltages etc whenn yer playing out at Bob’s country bunker.
i’ve tried to a/ b them with modern units as i’ve crafted my rig. the only thing missing is the electric mistress. i have an old one and while it sounds great it is abit dodgy even with a rpleaced switch and a throuough cleaning. The new one just doesn’t get the choatic sound I want. any suggestions wiyhout going vintage again? -
