Just so happens my school is putting on a two day seminar called Conversations on Race. Guess there will be workshops and stuff. I am going to attend. Originally, I was going to go and get points for a class but you wonderful people here have inspired me again. Planning to see where this thread goes and print it out and take with fir some Q and A I hope. Also, the keynote speaker on Sat. night will be a certain U.S. Rep John Lewis from the State of GA. I guess he pulls for the Jackson Co area there. Know him, Tony?
Rosa– Good call on the term considerations. Kurt is right, also. If you use the term whether or not there is an object within shouting range, perpetuation of the stereotypes goes on. Granted we can’t make it go away individually or even in small groups. Cultural pragmatism is the mostly likely solution. Now that we have found each and every person their title, how about we each make sure they have their own land and means to use it in "pursuit of happiness"?
Allison— Suppose I could play wheel of misfotune and spin this abberation back to centeredness, but nah, will leave you to your labors..
My opinion on the eek smilies from tony signifying anything, you have to know Kurt not to ask somethings…..
Nice pics, Allison!
Might be the best Watt/J combination of pics I’ve seen seen coming aboard here.
Yo, peach-dawg,
I was reading the history stuff and they talked about derogatory names for the Appalachian hill folk who threw the war to the north. From what I can gather, this is where the terms hillbilly, cracker and clay eater came from. The first two I understand, but what the hell is a clay eater? The clay feet reference is just self explanatory for me. I get on my posting highhorse but really I don’t know shit and everyday I log on I realize it and am grateful you all put up with it and that you all don’t give me your home addresses in case you decided not to put up with it……

So far….
one or more games against these boys.. I hope. Can’t beat the pack if you don’t get in the endzone.
Lions almost pulled it off though.
Did a search and found the Gritty reality thread under "da bears"…… pretty funny stuff in there. Guess that is the origin of the freakscene football wars.

Oops, did I use the wrong icon?
I was talking to my ma today. She was talking about her neighbors at the retirement place she lives at. Said it is very 50’s like, such as you have the black oldsters on one side and the whites on the other trying to figure out ways to get rid of the other ones. Flips me out at times….
Was reading about King Cotton today in my history assignment. The chapter explained how it created a southern aristocracy that sort of led to the uneven distribution of wealth and the vast separation of social classes and racial stereotyping that we see today. Don’t get me wrong, I am not putting all of our woes on southern history by any means. The north, with their tariffs and the single-minded advocacy of abolitionism without considering the financial future of the southern economy, pissed the old boys off to the point of secession. Meanwhile, the blacks had to keep cleaning the messes and put their bodies on the line for both sides to win freedoms that they are still not privy to this day, like being taken as honest, upstanding citizens at face value, without being profiled by shopkeepers or police as instant criminals.I like the Feng Shui mentality. Can anyone here point to or explain the coincidence that ergonomics legislature began cropping up right around the time Feng Shui was getting national press? Clinton, I think, pushed for federal ergonomics standards in the workplace and Bush shot it down in the early days of his admin.
I think centeredness must begin in the mind, yet, the mind is a sponge. It only soaks up what it is immersed in. Perhaps, the solubility of common-sense and at least moderate tolerance would provide a good balance.

Tom, (ScreamTree)
A Rolling Stone gossip blurb show ATDI broke up. Prob need to confirm it, though.
Albums,
Juliana Hatfield– Become What You Are
Lemonheads– Come On Feel The Lemonheads
Rollins– The End of Silence
Jawbox– For Your Own Special Sweethart
Sleater-Kinney– The Hot Rock
Sky Cries Mary– Return to the Inner Experience
That last band actually spawned the Posies. I am not a big Posies fan but in researching SCM last week, found the two guys from the Posies went to school with Roderick Romero of SCM and joined him to make jams as SCM before moving on to the Posies. Alas, SCM is also no more, breaking up in 1999. Roderick and his wife Anissa, SCM’s vocalist, have their own projects, which fail me at the moment, or at least had, the site I checked was not very fresh 2000 circa….
Speaking of Circa…..
How about Mary’s Danish– Circa for underrated?Tom

Now for the more thoughtful response……
Sorry about my post earlier in this thread. When I put it down, I meant it as the expression of a wish materialized.
Trav, I was hoping you would come back around again. Sometimes, you just can’t say all the things you want to say at exactly the right moment to all the people you want to say it to. Worse yet, when you do say it, personality can override the message and cause misunderstanding. Obviously, this is a problem that *i* have and I can only work on my end of it and that is I think an ongoing life process that continues to evolve with every new person I meet, every new place I travel to and every new situation I encounter.
For what you think it is worth, I am glad to have heard from you.
Tom.
Oh Maw,
Ah think ah ‘ave seen de lahght….. Heavens…….
Perhaps you will have to make do with staying on your heels instead.
Jaron,
No jokes or punch lines await and I do not know the answer, who are the Lions going to play on Turkey Day this year?

Jeremiah is more of a pimp than a ho any day, He might have his nose in the stash, though, one can never be sure It was never certain but we did have a thread that traced the origin of J’s last name and I do think someone found a derivative going back several centuries to Italy. Don’t need to search for it, just trust the process
Credibly yours,
Tomas
Allison,
Thanks for the link. Went out to fill up on 7-11’s new Dark Mountain Roast Coffee (ZINGZING) and picked up a copy of the REAL Chicago Newspaper the Sun-Times.
The back page has a deliberately infuriating page-wide picture of some schmoe with a yellow ‘fro wig, GB sunglasses and yellow tigerstripe face paint.
How many people wanna kick some ass?? I do, I do !!Also mentioned within is the book Mudbaths and Bloodbaths: The Inside Story of the Bears-Packers Rivalry by Gary D’Amato and Cliff Christl. I borrowed it from the library about 2 years ago or so. Have to say it might be one of the best sports books I ever read. Even if you are not a Bears or Packers fan, this book excels in giving even the most unfamiliar reader an idea of the ethics and history involving the game. Being the fact these two teams have faced each other since the dawn of the sport, many ties and references to the evolution of the game are interwoven within the details of the rivalry. A must-read.
