Salami,
Phil Ek has co-engineered More Light, produced on Built to Spill’s Ancient Melodies of the Future and Modest Mouse’s The Moon and Antarctica. Sam Coomes, who is married to Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney plays occasional keyboards with Built to Spill so I think that completes the circle, with Ek holding it together.
Questions though:
Did Ek produce or engineer any of the SK albums and did Coomes appear on any Modest Mouse releases?Staingirl and Co.,
Got this new one not knowing what to expect, but had doubts going in. Confirmed them, as far as thinking they have took most of the improv out of the sound. Not crazy about using a drum machine instead of King Coffey either. However the lyrics save the album from complete failure and seem reminiscent of older albums.Don’t know what is with the hip-hop fixation, but give me the glory days of Hairway to Steven, Psychic, Powerless, Another Man’s Sac and Rembrandt Pussyhorse anyday.
Got an email from The Empty Bottle today. I guess they just put you on a list and you show an ID when you get there. I have two seats reserved and so far it’s just me going so if anyone is interested let me know soon and you might get a free seat. I do not mind sending for more also. Am awaiting a response on the state of seats overall from the Bottle folks so will let you know.
I know I know! Lester Bangs, great rock critic…..
Oh, you mean the right answer without obligatory confusion. Ok. Try Lance Bangs, director of videos for punk rock Huzza boys Green Day and soon to be Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Moby. For you Salamiguy (and any others), what one person ties Dinosaur Jr., Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, and Sleater-Kinney together? There might be more than one answer here, but only one that I can think of…….

Never heard them, but if you like skinheads, have at it. I would say $10 is worth the experience.
RJ,
Right on, man! I always knew Osamma was a closet Puritan Randy Jane,

Cale,
Welcome aboard, friend. I, too, do not own the complete collection of Dino/J albums. I have had or do have, Green Mind, Fossils, Where You Been, Whatever’s Cool With Me, The Japanese Ep called The Wagon and now Ear Bleeding Country.Like others here will concur, I have not found a bad song of J’s yet. Still looking to round out my collection and especially so with the release of EBC.
Won’t spoil it totally but EBC has a tie between Nirvana and J. Check it out.
You will find many people here with divergent tastes and personalities. Don’t let that get in your way of getting to know folks and enjoying all what this site has to offer.
Again, Cale, welcome Tom
Trav,
I am sorry to hear you have become dissillusioned. After only being here for a month or two, I have grown to enjoy your posts. Controversial in the eyes of others or not, they are humorous or helpful, sometimes both.Perhaps I am wrong, but the idea of any sort of art or philosophy related forum came as a direct, not indirect or unrelated, but direct result of inspiration by J and his music. If others disagree with me, than maybe you are right on this, but I doubt it seriously. A suggestion would be to think things through some more before casting a collective dismissal upon the folks here, no matter how you may feel individually about them.
If I have managed to be one of those you are sore at either before or after this post, I am sorry, but really, that’s your problem and one I hope you can deal with wherever you might go. I just wish you would deal here. Feel free to send me a P.M. if you would like I would be happy to listen, Trav. You will be missed.

I haven’t pieced through this line by line yet. Just had a chance to peruse it during lunch. I did instantly decide it will be good copy for a persuasive speech for school. I was hoping to focus in on how the whole Napster thing could be beneficial to consumers and how the pieces are already in place to more fully realize it and act.
The folks at FreakScene hit this sitch up pretty well on the Moby thread a few weeks back. Now this article confirms the fact something must be done to bring the industry and the consumers into mutual benefit. If selfish profit-driven displays of unthoughfulness like the most recent garbage above continues, the black market is likely to become so pervasive that artists may not want to work in this conventional setting.
On one hand, I can relate to the initial concern of the industry group, but I think, just like the Firestone mess, they are more interested and casting blame and finding scapegoats for their money-grubbing and the continual losses they experience as a result.
If the industry was willing to inventory their resource materials and costs and be willing to explore cheaper means of production in along with forming alliances and partnerships with the Mp3 organizations to help offset distribution and associated costs (ala Machina from Smashing Pumpkins), and the cojoining industries could drop unit costs on store-bought albums by offering certain cuts online with hit count profts and such going back to the conglomeration.
If you look at Russia’s black market for household goods, the picture is quire scary. I for one, do not want to see CD’s go up to $50.00 per and have to deal with mafia-types for a reasonable deal. The answers are going to have to come from within, yet it will never happen if the industry continues to manifest a social labeling theory by likening traders to criminals. The only result of this, is I am afraid, is the traders living up to the imposed stereotypes and the industry using the courts as a sword to punish.

Just awaiting (2) tix in the mail. All things seem to be go. Have a place to stay enroute to and fro if alone. Haven’t convinced he she or it to ride along but until I have tickets in had, have to be careful of promising the world 😛
Still no folks in Great Lakes or what not giving this any thought?
Imperious Rex,
TomJeebs,
You can look for the 1993 release "Not For Kids Only" by David Grisman and some old dead guy named Jerry Garcia. This was one of if not his last release. All renditions of children’s folk tunes from the 1st half of the 20th century.
http://www.myrussiantreasures.com has some really neat russian folk tales for kids. Go the the About the Art section. They primarily sell russian imported art for a variety of prices. Also there is a guy out there named Stith Thompson or something like that who compiled Cinderella tales from all over the world.
Sorry don’t know any songs but maybe itsy bitsy spider and she’s be comin around the mountain, maybe yankee doodle dandy.Jaron,
Cool out, man. I was kidding. Just recounting some history, you know, Jefferson, Monroe, Madison etc. Washington was a Federalist though. All great men.Hai Hai, o Salome

You sure you can’t get an Amtrak ticket? Hope you are not having to work weekends as well. That sucks bad.
Thinking way ahead, I might be able to get a camera as well. If I do, is there a place I should mail copies of pix? Don’t have the scanner set up and not real sure on how to use it. Drat. -
