I agree on the visa thing if you can swing it. I couldn’t based on a time issue with V.A. funding and school, but if your heart is not for the studies at this time, maybe later. Spent a year in Okinawa, Japan with the jarheads, as you might know. Don’t remember a ton of it due to trying to make a name for myself by getting shtifaced as often as possible. Would suggest films, books etc. on the area before you go, set some itinerary to go along with the smoke and drink.
You seem to be going through some familiar things, but all I will say about it is cut yourself some slack if you think you need it.
