I love The Freed Man and Weed Forestin’ just so very, very much .The greatest so-called lo-fi ever.
I remember getting both pretty much the moment they came out ‘cos I wanted more Poledo which these LPs sort of are (to make a massive generalisation). So I obviously rate Original Losing Losers and Winning Losers and all that Acoustic Sentridoh stuff in a similar vein. Sebadoh III was my very first Cd actually. It was only available on import CD in the UK for a short while. I didn’t actually own a CD player when I got it
I saw them at what I think was their first UK show, which was great. One thing really sticks in my mind about this show.
Lou (to audience): Well, am I as good as J?
Audience member #1: No!
Audience member #2: J who?
Lou(dryly): J-Christ.
Priceless.I kind of dropped Sebadoh after Harmacy. Which I feel sort of dumbly guilty about. I thing I’m actually gonna try and pick up all the later Lou stuff that I’ve missed out on.

If all the Huskers had been was Bob’s pissing and moaning songs, however great and original his guitar sound was, I don’t think as many people would’ve stuck around to listen to them. Huskers without Grant’s songs would be like the Clash without Mick Jones’ — still good, but nowhere near as great. And I kind of like Grant’s drumming for its slappiness and energy, but he really doesn’t accent the rhythms like a regular drummer. That’s what made their sound unique, though. Even Bob’s best stuff since, with much better musicians, has been by-and-large a bit sluggish and arthritic by comparison.Agree 100%, couldn’t live without those Grant Hart songs, love them all!
I feel the exact same same way about Husker Du.
Also another vote for My Bloody Valentine (Yeah, it’s a dream).
Not a reunion as such but I’d love to see J record something with Watt that had equally split songwriting credits, shared vocals, plus Hurley on board.
I’d also like New Kingdom active again.
Who else?
Gastr Del Sol.
Electro Hippies.anyways you could make a new nut(haha) by yourself, all it takes is time, precision, and nice files.
[/quote]Shut up Beavis (h-h-huh,):D! You could say that I don’t quite have the nuts to attempt to make myself a new nut. Anyways ( "anyways", I really enjoy that particular americanism) I’ll ask my girlfriend about it
That’s my final testimony on the subject (Ugh! Groan).
Anyways, back on topic… Anyone interested in Jazzmasters should check out the Fender Discussion Page. if they haven’t done so. You’ll have an absolute glut of Jazzmaster info there. It’ll be oozing out of your ears.

Ah, Crunchy Les Pauls and primitive blocky computer animation. I Understand.Looks like Fender don’t wanna be emailed by just any scum off the street

J is a bonafide guitar great, hailed as the one responsible for introducing guitar solo’s and lead guitar work into indi/college rock. Danny Gatton is just some guy who played hillbilly jazz. Don’t get me wrong Danny Gatton is good, but I think J’s influence is a bit more profound.Well, sure. I guess I’m inclined to agree. I think your right. Primarily "You’re living all Over"/ "Dinosaur" (along with "Sister" by SY AND "Ecstacy" by MBV) is the reason I picked up a guitar. Obviously, I would love to see this realised.

On the other hand, I mean how famous was Danny Gatton (god reast his soul). Really very much more famous than J outside the circle of muso/ guitar nuts? I dunno.
The next poster is gonna write "Danny who?" aren’t they?"tonas " wrote:Is there anyway to view the article on line?I’m not sure. Don’t think so. I guess I could type them out for you but but it’s kind of drag. I type slowly. Is that mean? It’s the current issue and Y’know it’s copyrighted material for sure, yadda yadda.
What this site’s position with something like that? Moderator? But yeah, interesting.
Dino fans and Freakscensters, start lobbying / annoying Fender now!I’ve got one of the old ones with gorilla face on tha back, Just to up the elitism content of this thread.
However, I like my food so it doesn’t fit anymore. I guess that kinda cancels out my elite-ness. No I’m not gonna sell it. I’m gonna exercise……probably.Yeah I know, what a pointless post. I’m sorry.
Latest issue of Guitarist (U.K MAG)
One page article about Witch. Check out this quote from J
"I just got pictures of a prototype model Jazzmaster that Fender is gonna make for me. It has a tune-o-matic bridge, a gold pickguard like the ’59 ones, and a purple sparkle finish and matching headstock. I’m not sure if it will be a production model yet."
There’s also a full page interview with J in a Marshall amps promo suppliment with Guitarist that’s mildly interesting.
"jebus_the_llama " wrote:Er, i wasn’t exactly teling you to sell it bys aying it will only raise in value, i ment that because, there is x amount of 59 jazzmasters, and those disappear everyday because of gibbo fans and their stupdi 56 lp gold top switchs….anyways howd a bone nut get busted? thats not exactly what i would call common, but its say 50 years old(the bone…) yeah some people take mustang/jaguar metal controll plate tips(where the jack goes) and routes the pickguard for them, it works wonders, but not exactly what i call cute… anyways i bet your guitar looks stunning(as any stock pickup jazzmaster does(as in no buckers)) anyways post pictures if you already haven’t i wanna see it!
Hey Jebus,
No, of course I didn’t for a second take it that you meant I should sell my Jazzmaster, I was just emphasising the fact that I’m particularly attached to it (it was my first "proper" guitar) and that I love Jazzmasters. They’re surely the most beautiful solid electric guitars ever made. My girlfriend came up with a nice way to described the jazzmaster . something like , "masculine but elegant"
. I dunno. They look just as good if not better when "girls" play them – Check out the wicked Shannon Wright. Plus they’re way more versatile and usable than most people seem to give ’em credit for.I’d Post pics of it but I don’t have any handy or own a digital camera. To make matters worse it’s in England and I live in Cyprus right now! Sweet Jebus, I miss this guitar!
I’m gonna have to go there and arrange the fix up job because I wouldn’t trust anyone here to do it. No offense to any Cypriots intended but ,y’know, Cyprus is deep in bouzouki (Ugh!) country, it’s not really a guitar oriented culture. How did I bust the nut? One fine day, a hamfist and a bonehead was trying to fiddle with a worn, plinky sounding nut slot when, ooops! Oh fuck! I’d trust a Cypriot guitar tech ( if there is such a thing) over my handywork, of course. But I won’t.
Jebus, I’ve rambled a bit here haven’t I? Oh and by the way, Jagstangs are pretty cool too in a way, so cheer up.Oh yeah, and check out the thread about the J sigNITure Jazzmaster model.
"Sonic Crackwhore " wrote:When I saw Dino, My Bloody Valentine, and Jesus & Mary Chain play 2 NIGHTS IN A ROW at Brixton Academy in London. On the Rollercoaster tour with Blur as well, right? I got to see the Brighton show. My Bloody Valentine were absolutely monstrously loud. Fantastic! Lots of people were sort of fleeing in terror during "You Made Me Realise". I really miss that band.
"jebus_the_llama " wrote:normal gibbo t.o.ms arent much on tremelo use……im just saying, gretsch’s use t.o.ms aswell, but they’re rollers. and if that 59 jazzy is all stock keep it that way, if its already re finished and looks bad id do a re-fin, but if its all orignal keep it that way. it will only go up in value. My ’59 has a mediocre old refin that’s partly stripped plus I managed to bust the the tort pickguard where the jack socket is (this is pretty common and I recently picked up an ’60s replacement). I also managed to crack the original bone nut ( how? WTF?) so it’s a "players guitar" as they say. Sounds amazing though. The price of refins seems to keep rising also but I resolve to get the repairs done sometime this year hopefully and never let it go.
I’ve got a Danelectro Reel Echo pedal. I was hoping for that ”Zuma" sound on the cheap. Obviously life’s not that simple but it sounds quite nice and tape echoish in a way. It’ll sort of do Eddie Hazel "Maggot Brain" and, um, (oh dear) Chris Isaak, but I’m not being completely fair, it’s actually relatively pretty versatile and definitely "spacey". It’s a big chunky seafoam green-ish pedal that looks cool but if you fiddle with the knobs while it’s working it betrays it’s digitalness. It doesn’t do that rocket taking off, muscle car thing that some pedals do, but it’s alright.Check it out. Fulltone make an exact Echoplex clone but it costs around a grand. Oh well.
"jebus_the_llama " wrote:if he uses a tom, it must be a rolling tom with all the tremelo work he does.Nope.
I’m petty sure that J’s tune-o-matics are not the roller type. In fact the bridge on J’s original ’64/ ’65 Jazzmaster wasn’t an actual Gibson style tune-o-matic. It was a little different. There’s not a huge difference in sound between a Jazzmaster with a stock bridge and a Jazzmaster with a t.o.m. in my opinion, but maybe I’m cloth eared. J obviously likes ’em. I’ve got a ’59 Jazzmaster with a stock bridge that’s back home with my folks, sadly, and needs work, (I really must sort it out) but when it was up and running okay, it definitely had that Dino sound, especially that first album semi-distorted jangle tone."eyesadrift " wrote:"IMMMainecoffKoon " wrote:Oh and a Zombie worm is also a "Bone eating Snot Flower"
Sounds….. lovely.lol yah i read that before its trippy i think im gonna name my band that lol i know im so bad….

Yeah, I mean, who wouldn’t pay to see a band called Bone Eating Snot Flower?
