also, there are several moments on this record that really remind me of snippets from J’s Gas, Food and Lodging soundtrack, which for me is a good thing.
interesting opinion Matt. as you mentioned above, See it on your side is practically a Turnip Farm remake, albeit a far more commercially acceptable one. I’m a little biased as Turnip Farm is one of my favourite Dino songs, but I far prefer the “original”. And saying that he didn’t write these songs to tour and play live isn’t the same as saying he didn’t write them to appeal to a wider base. It’s possible to write a great record that sells well. Regardless, do you think he’d come out and say “I wanted to make a record that finally shifted units and led to a pay day” even if that were the case? Everything about this release feels different, the bundles, the buzz and the tracks themselves. Not necessarily worse, just different.
fully agree with Tonas, nothing really jumping out at me after several listens. Usually there are one or two songs I love immediately, and then two or three others that become favourites after more plays. Feels like this is a release to win new fans and appeal to a wider base than for long term enthusiasts. Still, can’t blame them for wanting success and I’m looking forward to hearing these new songs live. feels like they have a good marketing machine behind them on this release so with a combination of that and a social media tidal wave I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bit more commercial success from this.
empire – yep that’s right. good gig that, was no way I was going to miss it. shame it was full of media types who by and large had no idea who they were seeing. would prefer shepherds bush, but assume it will be kentish town. anywhere but scala and I’m happy.
thanks pal. i bought the jagjaguwar package so that I could get the download code before my holiday tomorrow, so at least have that. actually I really want the baby onesie before my youngest daughter is too big for it. have probably bought stuff from these guys before, but most of my merchandise is from gigs 20 years ago – prefer these as they had the tour dates etc printed on the back and were generally much better than the ones you can buy online. still fit and in decent condition too, same as my old sebadoh ones. the polvo and trumans water shirts haven’t lasted as well – maybe something in that. thanks for your help and probably see you later in the year in Kentish Town when they play London.
ok. more concerned about not having any confirmation about the bundle apart from a paypal receipt. did you get a confirmation email from transmission merch? did you get an estimated delivery date?
i bought the deluxe package through transmission merch, payment went out of paypal, no confirmation from transmission merch, no code and he’s not responding to my emails. anyone else?
hmm
I’ll either go with I Got Lost, or Been There All the Time in response to your question.
older, fatter, balder with more kids. kinda like Murph. assuming he has kids.
how could I omit Bulbs of Passion?
Don’t.

You’re Loving all Over me.can’t believe this is my first post in about 2 years.
buy a copy of the Big Issue from him? 😉
My wife gave birth to our 2nd little girl 4 days before this gig, I was allowed out for 2 hours. arrived at 8.45 and was very disappointed to find out he wasn’t due on until 9.45, so endured the Rick Tomlinson set (his last track was like the soundtrack to an Edgar Allen Poe story). Was overjoyed when Mascis came on 15 mins early. left after Alone to get back for curfew – what did I miss?
thanks all. I ended up doing some shopping for family, perusing some museums (musei?) and gallaries, and getting plastered on a sunday afternoon, watching sports that i don’t understand (although the more plastered I got, the more I understood – a perfect correlation betwixt alcohol and comprehension). alas, i then decided that the perfect way to spend a sunday evening was watching richie hawtin (plastikman) play at a nightclub (having been convinced that my nightclub days were firmly in my past alongside carbombs and half pint gin shooters) until the wee small hours. dancing must be one of the only things that doesn’t improve with practise nor age.
in short, i returned from new york unrested and peturbed, having learned nothing aside from the fact that i shouldn’t be allowed to go anywhere on my own.
wishing you all a most pleasant weekend
thanks all
