Thumbs up on the golf talk, thumbs down on the politalk.
Thanks for posting.
The "leven 5 vegan" line is from the episode where Lisa volutneers to live in a tree to impress the leader of a local enviro-nut group. She mentions that she’s a vegetarian, but was thinking of becoming a vegan, and he says, "i’m a level 5 vegan, I don’t eat anything that casts a shadow." Very humorous.
I don’t understand vegetarianism, but to each their own. I find most vegetarians are just like you, they just don’t particularly like meat. No activism. No hollerin. But it’s the squeaky wheels that get the media attention.
I pretty much eat anything that doesn’t eat me first. Cow, chicken, buffalo, ostrich, pig, quail, duck, dove, rabbit, shrimp, crab, crawfish, etc. You get the idea. I also love fresh fruits and vegetables, pretty much all pastas, anything chocolate, and some junk food. There’s also a certain beauty to fast food french fries loaded with salt. I love to cook…I can’t imagine not having fresh food, cooked with imagination and flare. Yesterday I made salmon, mint cous cous, and necterine/watermelon salad. All fresh ingredients. It was GREAT!!! Yes, I like to watch Iron Chef.
I also like coffee. With chickory.
I’m going to my mom’s today for church and to take her to lunch. Mom has a very nice scanner. Providing SPIN’s big-ass pages fit, i’ll scan it and send it to Jerimiah. It’s a pretty interesting read…..J. has really matured over the years….seems a lot happier. Which, in my book, is a good thing.
I’d pay high $$ to see JMas and JayFarrar on the same stage. J. on banjo/guitar/vocals and Jay on guitar/vocals. Sweeeet.
Not that this has anything to do with the thread…but I absolutely HATE festivals. They bring out the absolute dregs who do absolutely stupid sh*t (like build big fires and push people into it), it’s always hotter than absolute hell, no food to speak of, no good bathroom facilities and some jackass selling $5 water.
God i’m old….but give me Bob Wills’ Cain’s Ballroom ANY day.
One of the reasons I absolutely love this board is all of the music I get turned on to that would otherwise pass me by. I was never really into the national punk/alternative scene, so most of these bands I haven’t heard of. I find an MP3 and if I like it, I order the CD. Thanks. One of my favorites has been Yo La Tengo’s "Here Come’s My Baby." Very cool song.
Anyway, my list includes:
Brad: Shame. Just freakin’ cool. Shawn Smith doesn’t sound white to me. And it has the great guitar playing of Pearl Jam w/o having to hear floppy haired guy’s political views.
D. Yoakam: dwightyoakamacoustic.net. A real gem for country fans who can’t stand country radio.
Hank Sr.: Alone With His Guitar. See above. It’s very sad that THE icon in country music would have NEVER made it big today. Makes me wanna puke.
Blind Melon: Nico. I hated this band when Hoon was alive. "No Rain" drove me insane. Hey, that rhymes….and you know it rhymes Marge. Whoops, wrong thread.
Mighty Mighty Bosstones: Let’s Face It. For a genra (is that spelled right??) of music that is so cool, so few people do it well. Dig the guys voice.
Blue Mountain: Homegrown. Americana. Sweet.
Counting Crows: Live In New York. I like them and I don’t give a damn what anyone else says!!!
Wilco: Being There. What can I say?? It’s always there.
Son Volt: Trace. See Blue Mountain.
Uncle Tupelo: Anodyne. This will always be on the list.
Lyle Lovett: Any CD. The best songwriter i’ve heard since Willie Nelson. I don’t think many folks "get it." Or have never listened. Download "Creeps Like Me." Great lyrics.
Astrud Gilberto: A spanish (I think) jazz singer. Very cool. Especially on Saturday morning’s when you know you won’t be leaving the house ’till Monday at 8am.
Steve Earle: Shut Up And Die Like An Aviator. Southern country rock stuff. Live. Dig it.
Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys: For The Last Time. I gotta learn how to swing dance.
Yes, I listen to a lot of country stuff…but hey, I dig it.
Lisa: "You can’t post that on the internet, you don’t even know if it’s TRUE!!!"
Homer: "I hear they got the internet on computers now."
Homer: "I gotta joke about how white people are different from black people. Ya see….white people are named Lenny, and black people are named Carl!!! HAHA HAHA HAHA"
Burns: "He [Smithers] doesn’t know the MEANING of the word "gay"."
Ralph: "I found a moonrock in my nose!!"
Marge: "I’m a lucky woman."
Homer: "And i’m a wonderful man."Poochie: "Wiggly Wiggly!!"
Bart: "Awww…I gotta moustache comb. What’d you get Lis."
Lisa: "A fake moustache. Wanna comb it??"Nurse: "Doctor, you’ve gotta call from the coroner."
Dr. Nick: "Awwww….not THAT guy again!!!"Cletus’ girlfriend (while she and Cletus are making out in the back of the truck): "Cletus, how come you had to park so close to my parents!!!"
Cletus: "Awwww…their my parents too!!!"Homer: "I’ve never been a praying man, but if your up there, please SAVE me SUPERMAN!!!"
Homer: "A gun is not a weapon…it’s a tool. Like a butcher knife, a harpoon….or an alligator."
Homer: "I can’t be a missionary…..I don’t even believe in JEBUS!!! SAAAAAAAVE ME JEEEEEBUSSSSSS!!!!"
Ummmmm…..attributing the economic good standing of the US for the last 20 years (not just eight, as many want you to believe) to the Clinton administration is a complete riot. Ya think it may have had something to do with the technological revolution?? Or maybe…just maybe, the last ten years or so may have given us a "false economy" of sorts. Credit can be a very bad thing.
It cracks me up that people will bash the Reagan/Bush years as "mismanagement" while turning a blind eye to the fierce corruption which will likely put the US in great danger (China has many "rogue nation" friends in the world, ya know). Can anybody point to even a shred of competent energy policy during the Clinton administration?? I suppose folks on the left will be pointing to the huge deficit during the ’80’s…..blaming it on Reagen b/c, everybody knows, he constructed the budgets, correct?? And putting an end to the Cold War….hell, that pales in comparison to enacting "don’t ask, don’t tell" policies.
Hager……I do understand your plight. I get my friends all worked up about personal freedom, liberty and responsibility as well as pointing out how we are SEVERELY over-taxed, much of that money spent on pork-barrel projects used as leverage to get representitives elected. They agree with every word. They get mad. They get upset. Then they vote for Gore or Nader b/c "conservatives are mean." I’ve got a feeling i’m less Libertarian and more of a Conservative than you…..but I understand your point well, none the less. I’m sure you know by now that when discussing politics with a leftist, if you don’t agree with them, it’s "obviously" b/c you don’t TRULY understand, don’t follow the issues or are just plain dumb (ya know, like Harvard Business Grad GeeDub). Eh. What the hell are ya gonna do??
I’m gonna go listen to go listen to some Astrud Gilberto and have my morning cup of kitten’s blood.

Yes, I did see the PEZ dispensers….great stuff. I’ve got the Simpsons PEZ collection and it’s quite the conversation piece.
I’ve been a KISS fan since I was five years old and my older brother got me "Rock n’ Roll Over" for Christmas. My parents were pissed and I was never the same.
Catcher in the Rye is by JD Salinger. Fantastic book….definately goes on the list.
And your right….I don’t get a chance to read many Dutch novels.
