(Notice that I didn’t make subtle, yet damaging changes to your account status.)

That’s it… I just couldn’t resist sticking it in my sig.
Yeah, but the other board you visit doesn’t have billions of dollars backing it. I doubt most ISP’s do much more than warning when some website calls saying "hey, this guy’s bugging people."
With the corporations, even if the ISP’s were to challenge, the legal fees alone would put them out of business.
It’s like when EMI attacked OLGA (Online Guitar Archive.) All the university mirrors were shut down, but EMI didn’t even bother to challenge the AOL mirror… Hmmm, I wonder why…
(Of coarse, a while back, OLGA came back online… haven’t bothered to find out why they were able to do that…)
EDIT: Found some info…Linkage.
Audiogalaxy does filter out some copyright files, probably nothing we’d listen to, but it is a sign that it may be one of the first Napster alts to get the boot from the RIAA… It is centralized. Still, at the moment it is a good place to find stuff.
Don’t discount the gnutella yet, ELJ, granted it needs LOTS of refinement, and a little standardization wouldn’t hurt either, but the non-centralized structure is our best bet for circumventing the big corporation crackdown. What these file sharing deals really need is some form of encription. Even simple encription would make it illegal for the RIAA to listen in. Bearshare’s function of displaying user’s IP addresses is pretty moronic as well…
As for my prefered client, I use a multipronged attack w/ WinMX, Audiogalaxy, and as a last resort, Morpheus (it limits MP3’s to 128kbps, so its for when the other two don’t produce results.)
PS, both the RIAA and the MIAA frequently scan the news groups… Like I said, most the stuff we listen to isn’t on their respective radars, but if you like grabbing movies, I’ve heard a few stories of people’s ISP suspending / cancelling (rare) their accounts at the request of the R/MIAA. This is not a legal shutdown either, both organizations use their expensive lawyers to threaten ISP’s w/ long, expensive litigation to get them to cooperate… It becomes a lose / lose situation for the ISP’s.
Deepsludge’s questions (in order of appearence.)
1. Not sure why they read in > out… Yes, its a first, something Mattman doesn’t know…
2. Don’t usually stop when paused.
3. Scanning is OK.
4. Maybe toxic fumes. Don’t recommend inhailing.
5. They have scratch undoing products, but I’ve never tried them. An ounce of prevention…
Hope I helped…
I hear ya..! Every time I get something together something screws it up… Usually lazy friends who like the concept of a band, but can’t get their asses in gear…
The last time I got something serious going, my bass player gets a girlfriend/fiancee/wife and moves to another city. Shortly after that, the drummer gets a nightly gig w/ some club band… He hates the music, but the pay’s pretty good…
Well, some friends of mine that were in a band just broke up. The drummer and lead guitarist just moved to New Orleans, so I’m hoping to scavenge off the remaining members.. The singer (James) is an old friend of mine since highschool and I’ve worked w/ him before on some recording type stuff. He’s the one I really want scavenge. The rhythm guitarist, John, is also part of the old highschool gang. He’s also a pretty good song writer, but I don’t know if I want a dedicated rhythm guy since I tend to prefer to hold up all the guitar stuff alone. Besides, James if decent enough on guitar to do rhythm anyway. But, if John’s into it, I wouldn’t mind having him in the band. The bassist (also named Matt) I don’t know very well and could basically take or leave him. Still have to find a drummer though. Not upset about the old one leaving though, he wasn’t very good at it.
Almost a decade of guitarin’ and I feel like I’m letting it go to waste right now.
Oh well, I’ll probably see James tomorrow night at yet another group of friends band, The Soular System. A funk band so good, they may have to be killed. Everyone else local sucks compared to them.
Jeremiah and I are still trying to solve this issue. We’ve just been doing it over email and PM’s. The problem is that the computer is a Compaq and doesn’t follow standards. For instance, the BIOS is not on a flashROM chip on the mainboard, but instead on a separate partition of the original harddrive.
I already know that the problem has to do with the fact that the older Compaq BIOS doesn’t support LBA mode for HD’s (over 8GB support.) We’re just trying to find a way around it…
Nah, J’s music remains our main obsession… Modest Mouse is just newer…
PS. I’m listening to More Light right now.

Great Vol. 3 Allison.. It’s tough to know where and when to stop. maybe we shouldn’t.
I seriously need to get one of those car CD players that can read MP3’s. Maybe I can sell a kidney or something…
I’d give up a kidney for my favorite music… Sure I would…
Yeah, those are all good too…
I had a real ‘kid in the candy store’ kinda thing when I made that mix… I was like ‘ooh I like that song, and that one, and that one too… Damn! Outta room…
Oh well, I’m sure I’ll get around to volume 2 pretty soon.
(But, hey, at least I gave this thread a cool title. )
You don’t like Paper Thin Walls..?
That’s it, you’re sooo banned!
Yes, ELJ’s correct. It spirals from in to out…
I kinda felt the same way about that when I noticed it wasn’t there. I think that song is one of the best for converting people…

Please answer the the previous question I asked to Allison and Flying Cloud.

Oops, I missed this part. I’m assuming you’re refering to the question about the girl crying in public…
Well it depends on the situation… If I already know and recognize the girl then it’s a non-issue…
You see, no one I know can have a negative emotion around me. I’m fascinated by people and what makes them tick, so I’m constantly watching and taking in the events at hand. With people I know, I tend know what puts them into certain moods. There have been cases when I’ve just about known someone better than they know themselves. I’ve creeped myself out w/ this before! I always love it when some angst-ridden kid states the usual teen line "You don’t know me, no one knows me!" in front of me. It’s at that time that I explain themselves to them and they get REALLY quiet…
Anyway, back on topic… If the case was that I did not know the girl, I’d have to take a few minutes to observe the situation and create a stategy.
Yeah, disintergrating in public is only cool if it involves Allison’s ‘Mars Attacks’ ray-gun.
