Actually, I just got lucky with the timing

Thanks for all the B’Day wishes, it was a wicked couple days of celebrating

Well, as I’ve always said… The proper equaition for getting people to do what you want is 3/4 charm, plus 1/4 mind control (I really need to make that into a shirt)..
I hate to put this idea forward… I really do… but your hard drive may have kicked the bucket. Let’s hope not though.

Birthday on a friday and six days off… how do you do it!?

Happy birthday!!! I’m sure the Asheton Specials are gonna roll tonight.
Thanks, we can use some luck!

We’re getting some help from other members of our department. There are 15 in my group, only half of which are really able to travel, but the some of the network guys and help desk folks have thrown in for the trips to Pensacola, and it looks like the server guys might toss one or two people in too. The 5:30am, 6 hour trips (4 hours to get there, plus 2 hours to wait in bumper to bumper traffic) to Pensacola are the worst of it, so having these other guys in the rotation takes a lot of the stress off of us. We’re pretty much on our own with the piles of equipment though…
Yes, that’s my job exactly.
Looks like there’s another trip planned for tomorrow. The Pensacola people are setting in some space at the local sheriff’s office. They’ve given us a list of about 20 specific PC’s and various other hardware that they need by tomorrow… We currently have all this stuff in a number of disorganized piles and haven’t even had time to see what’s been damaged and what still works…

So far I’m not going to be on the team going back (we’re trying to keep some rotation here, though there are a couple guys who are going to be on all the trips)… I’ll be helping out with testing and setting up the PC’s that are going over there though, along with my normal duties on top of that. We’re crunched right now.

OMG, Robert, I’m so glad you weren’t under that thing when it fell!!!

I wouldn’t say I’m "in" law enforcement… I mean, they won’t give me a gun, or even a badge…
:aliensmile:Ah, I misread SG’s post. I thought he was including Eskimo as one of his choices, and was going to disagree because I’ve never really liked that song.
Raining or Said Too Much are good though. I also would’ve liked Jealous, Lets Electrify or Crazy.
Thanks for the track listing Mr. Buck.

What Versus track is on it?
From my own pseudo-scientific reasoning, this would seem to be mostly related to loud bass sounds (in fact, it mentions this in the article). Given that the guitar is a mid to high range instrument, I think we’re safe with J (well our lungs any).

I’m more surprised that no one has posted the lyrics for ‘The Lung’ yet.
"Annastefka" wrote:So funny to hear you are in Florida, I really had an empty moonscape in my imagination when your name pops up. Anyway, how far down into Florida? My husband and his good friend Kiyoaki Kato are your perfect clients. They collect all of that old stuff and have it repaired, if they don’t have the time or can’t. I have seen lots of those tube amps go into the shop. The guy that fixes them takes a long time, like 6 weeks or so. My final thought, sounds like a fun business.Florida, is my… erm… terrestrial address.
I’m in Tallahassee, so not far down at all…
I’m thinking the biz will be fun. I actually enjoy working on that kind of stuff as a hobbie, so why not cash in a little bit?

I work as computer support for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (don’t worry, I’m not sworn law enforement, just a normal office worker).
I’m 2nd tier, not the help desk, but the guy who actually goes out to the end users offices to fix stuff. I make about the same as Rich…
To be honest, I’m pretty over-qualified for what I do, but I’ve got benifits, job security, and really cool coworkers (and my boss is a local bluegrass musician… very talanted!) Plus I really like the fact that my job allows me to walk around the building and meet new people. Whereas most office workers get yelled at for being away from their desks too much, I get fussed at if I’m at my desk too much… A much better situation if you ask me.

I might decide to put my neck on the line and try for some bigger, better (but almost certainly riskier) job in the future, but I’m happy were I’m at, so I’m not in too big of a hurry…

In the meantime, I’m in discussion with a local buddy of mine about starting a weekend side-business where we repair and service older electronic music equipment (tube amps, older guitar effects, etc.) This one’s still in discussion though, so there’s not much to tell just yet. We do have a couple of friends who are interested in being our first clients though…

Mexican made Fenders are a gamble… It might be really good (I’ve seen a few that I liked better than some USA ones), maybe it’s total crap… more likely it’s somewhere in between… Newer ones seem to be more consistantly towards the better end than the older ones.
The type of wood is a matter of preferance. Japan models are usually made of basewood, Mexican mades are typically made of poplar (USA’s are made from alder or ash). This mostly due to the availability of each type of wood to their respective locations. Japan models tend to have a better finish to then though.
The Mex-made electronics are pretty much crap, but that’s not too hard to replace down the line…
Expect to pay more for the Japanese models.
Bottom line is that you need to get out there and try several of them and see if you can find one that just feels right to you.
Don’t be too quick to go with just Fender or Gibson either. I’ve found G&L’s lower priced "Tribute" line to be very good, and you really can’t go wrong with Yamaha if you want a reliable instrument that’ll last nearly forever at a good price.
AAH! I totally missed it!!!

(see what happens when you get busy and don’t drop by FS for two days!)
Happy belated birthday, you old fart!!!

J has stated on a few occasions that he doesn’t like humbuckers.
There’s a magazine article, I think it’s in the photo album, where J says that most of the rhythm work on Where You Been was a Les Paul Gold-Top w/ p-90’s into a Fender Bandmaster amp.
P-90’s are very hot single coil pickups… Lots of output!
