Very good, can’t believe I missed that one, but hey there’s always youtube.
So as someone pointed out earlier it is quite the deal that Kennedy said, “I feel the pain of all people!”. I do believe J explained it in interviews at the time, I believe he said it was inspired by a friend.
marcoco said: Wow. What a fantastic show. Absolutely loved “the boy with the thorn in his side”, incredible performance with Johnny Marr and Dale Crover on drums. Been listening to that one over and over, it’s stellar. The venue looked cool (I don’t think I’d seen pics from there before), what a great crowd for what was definitely a killer performance. Wish I could have been there. And the flute on “thumb” to boot. I’d say that was probably the best Dinosaur Jr show of all time.
Totally agree with everything Marcoco!
Glad you bloody Londoners got your bloody show!
Have a bloody good time!
Nice Tinnitus_photo!
Just chiming in with my experience of the show. It was the best Dinosaur show I’ve ever seen. I have never seen Dinosaur play with THIS kind of energy and to keep you from guessing I mean mostly J. I know J only has so much energy and presence, but you could tell that he was totally into it last night and it made a big part of the show for me.
New York was just a whole other level for me, the crowd was so into it and Terminal 5 was a great venue to hold this show. I was standing about 3 rows back in the center and I thought it’d be safe, I was dead wrong. The mosh pit ensued during Thumb and got out of control once they played YLAOM. I’m 35 and too old for that now. I got through Raisans and then decided to move off to the side where I would watch the show. I feel bad that I kocked two guys on there asses standing my ground. They chilled out after that, but they could’ve gotten hurt bad and I’m not proud of that.
Lee Ranaldo was a total surprise, but he was one of those question marks of ‘shouldn’t he be here?’ The flute on Thumb a welcome surprise. Frank Black another surprise and Kim stole the show of her performance on Don’t. I did not expect that and at all, but she is a true punk rocker, it was an excellent performance of a song whos repeated screaming of the same same five words grew tiresome to me after five listens. She saved it and showed how a song like that could be so good. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always thought the riff was killer.
I’ll end by saying it was so cool to see Johnny Marr up there playing “The Wagon” I was thinking, “Are they gonna play The Boy With a Thorn in His Side” and then bam! they dropped it. Everyone else was great too. Another highlight was “Alone” as a four peace as well as the other song. I don’t know why they didn’t make a big video out of this, but if they are thinking the same thing and decide to do a show like that again, I will be there. Maybe they’ll get Robert Smith and Peter Frampton!
Best show ever!

He even smiled a couple of times!
Yep, it was like that when I saw them in D.C. and and Philly, J’s having a good time. They’re all having a good time. J said, “Murph likes to lay ‘Just Like Heaven’ because the girls like it”. He’s totally trying to set Murph up with a girl!

November 29, 2012 at 9:11 am in reply to: Premier Guitar – Rig Rundown: Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis #139857J used to tour with the Tele, but after he got all that gear stolen he scaled back a bit. He could still tour with those, and I did notice at the Bug 9:30 show he had a Tele there. But it looks like he realized that it’s really unnecessary for the road. Looks like that Jazzmaster is all he needs. As far as recording goes, he’s using more than just the Tele. There’s no way he’s doing whammy on solos without one. He’s also been vidioed using Jazzmasters while record recent records.
Anyways, a search on here should provide enough information on his recording gear, but yeah I would mind seeing an updated video on that. I certainly found out something new, J’s not using Curt Novak pickups in any of those guitars at least. Very interesting that he chose the Antiquity’s. They are the closest to the real deal out there. Also, the fuzzface is missing. Is it broke? Too valuable to bring on tour? Doesn’t like it anymore? So many unanswered questions…
Does anyone know how far into the 300 Tym has made already? I haven’t seen them go up in a while…
Sweet Derve88!
Hybridge Pffft! jajaja!
I’d be willing to guess you can get a below face value ticket at the show…
Glad you clarified that goodguytoo, when it came out it was presented as a song about J Mascis. My impression was that Lou was saying J was a freed pig meaning that he’s done a lot of wrong, but people give him a free pass. I know those old days are all water under the bridge now, but an integral part of their history.
I just finished listening to it last night. I usually only get the chance to listen to albums in my car so it was the digital copy. Like Tonas said they’re definitely tighter nowadays, but for a couple 22 years its pretty impressive. I play guitar and I am so amazed when I play other peoples songs that they even get through them all. Anyways, its nice to have so many songs from the first album played live! It’s not oftern you get to hear Mountain Man, Does it Float or Gargoyle, but come on man give me some ‘Leper’ please!
Yeah, empire the most vivid recollection of that song was 1994 in Baltimore at Hammerjacks. I was right in front of Mike Johnson. It’s one of my favorite songs, you know it just kicks so much A, that I was really happy they played it. It was sometime in October I believe. I saw them at Lollapalooza in 1993 for the first time, but I can’t recollect if they played it then. It would have made sense though since is was the year Where You Been came out. After that I saw them in 1997 in Baltimore at Bohagers and again I can’t really recollect if they played it then. My recollection was at the show in 1994.
