Would we want that to happen? Selfishly speaking that is!

Thanks for that Jeremiah! Sounds like a totally cool guy, and that he and J are coming to terms with the past ugliness. I regret the bashing I gave him earlier.
I TAKE IT ALL BACK Guess I just got defensive about somebody harboring hatred for J, & it doesn’t sound like he feels that way now.
Not only that, he also has going for him the fact that he’s 30. It’s a scientific fact that people get cooler when they turn 30! Plus he’s from Jackson, just 45 minutes from yours truly!
Now I am definitely going to start listening to Sebadoh, something I’ve avoided just because I didn’t care for Lou.

Going back to the original question, I too would like to know how J achieved that awesome flutey sound, especially on the Ammaring solo. Could be Lovetone, or a combination of several effects.

I agree that having the same equipment doesn’t make you sound like someone else.

The most J-like J-owned pedal I have is the Electric Mistress. Recognisable on loads of tracks.

I like the music in "Where’d you go." It’s the words that are a little wierd. It seems to be about the point of view of a CD in the CD bins in a store. The CD does not seem to be sure it wants to be purchased… The attitude kind of reminds me of that old song by Jonny Lydon "This is what you want, This is what you get, (ECT, ECT, ECT,…) Well… not exactly but something like that.

(There May be Errors in here…)

Get it right. There’s a message that I got to heed this time.
It’s not fun, I been wastin’ life and missing everything.

Squeez my mind. Just to wring out the last drop of sense.
The last time, and you told me so, you told me so.

And it’s not wrong. It’s not wrong. It’s not wrong.

Where’s today, where’s tommarow been.
Wheres’s the peace I crave, where’s the life I’m in.
Where’s today? why’s tommarow feel,
like a whole new love, like a whole new deal?

It’s not wrong.

Where’d you go, I got time, please take me instead.
Gotta know. the urgency shot right over my head.

Feelin’ rough, but I’m holden out handen you my thought.
Gettin’ tough, but I’m full of love, I’m full of love.

It’s all part of the plan.
I’m not saying that I like it or understand.

But I just gave you my hand.
Got a feeling that you’ll take me with you again.

Where’s today?, where’d tommarow go?
Did it all wash out? Something I should know?

Where’s today? Why’s tommarow feel,
Like a whole new love, like a whole new deal?

And it’s all part of the plan.
I’m not saying that I like it or understand.

I gotta be grateful, I can’t. Cause I know that you’ll take me with you again.

Howdy, just thought I’d post a related link to an interview with lou. He briefly talks about J http://www.unomas.com/features/loubarlow.html

my opinion on the matter is that they are both talented but they had different views on how they expressed themselves. When they worked together it was brilliant as are there works they did apart. There is no doubt in my mind that they would have parted ways eventually anyway but they both regret the way it happened…

Couldn’t have said it better myself! It’s a personal preference thing, not a arguable point. I like the solos in the foreground and in your face. They are great solos, true, but to MY ear (and there’s no argument here, they are my ears after all) they tend to blend into the background too much on the older stuff. That’s why I like the newer stuff better, period. Hey, it all fuckin rocks hard, a point we can agree on, that’s the important thing!! Who loves ya baby!
