I know, Rosa. And I enjoyed the story. But hager seemed to take it as a reason to declare Lou a psycho, so I felt I had to defend him. Plus, I wanted to make my case for whining in music.

Jasper, you’ll note I was merely sharing an amusing story. I am well aware that without Lou I would enjoy that many fewer Dinosaur Jr. albums. I don’t knock Barlow’s talent even if his material doesn’t always suit my taste. I was just relaying a J and Lou story to the J and Lou message board. No hard feelings!

Shane, I’m not LOOKING to sound like J; I think I mentioned that. I just figured I’d ask the tekkies who visit this site to recommend me a good pedal. I can’t really care whether or not J likes humbuckers because, though I admire him immensely, 1) I’m pretty sure I don’t play to impress Mr. Mascis, and 2) I wouldn’t know a humbucker if I woke up with one on my pillow.
If YOU think you can suggest something better, hit me up! That’s the reason I started this topic. Thanks
Enought already! Okay, so Lou had some problems with being kicked out by J – but some innocent fantasy about SNL really is no reason to start bashing him. I saw Lou in Amsterdam this year, and he was great. Or just listen to his songs on Harmacy – songs so pure and honest that your heart almost breaks just listening to them.
And I prefer "Where you been" to anything else, but it’s really not true that J’s music "improved vastly" after Lou left. "You’re living all over me" is a brilliant album, and Lou played bass on it.
So Lou whines? God! Half of pop music is guys whining that either: 1) They are lonely 2)They were lonely yesterday 3) They will be lonely tomorrow. What did you think J is doing? He could be the king of whiners (and that’s exactly why I love his music so much). "Why won’t you be my friend, I would love to hold you tonight even if we just pretend." Good music is all about whining, and as long as it’s done in pureness and honesty, that’s just great.

Arrrggghhh! Humbuckers! J. hates humbuckers…at least if memory serves correctly.
: )
No offense, dude, but why would you enter a bulletin board called "Guitar Room" and criticize people for talking about guitars? Take it easy!
Hi,
Agree with Rosa 100%, J much better without lb. Saw sebadoh on the Flaming Lips tour last summer, was actually almost looking forward to it. Had heard some of their music, not great but interesting, very disappointed!!!!! Played crappy and all lb did was whine, whine, whine, god I felt like throwing something!!

yeah, from what i’ve heard, they went to the same high school, but they aren’t really the same age. maybe it just turned into an inside joke.

i saw the Wharton Tiers Ensemble open for DinoJr the last time they toured New York. They are pretty cool. They sound kinda like DinoJr/Sonic Youth without any vocals. I like instrumental music, but it got a bit tiresome towards the end of their set.
