Hey, I happen to have owned serveral Epi’s and my current ones play great! I’m not saying I wouldn’t rather have something more expensive, but I don’t. Anyone reading this: Don’t hesitate buying an Epiphone. You might want to have a guru set up the action and stuff for you, but after that it will play as well as anything else. Off the rack theY are not, shall we say, optimized.

yeah..I know about epiphone, and the gold top re-issues…but reissues are by and large, crap, and epiphones are some of the worst guitars a young man could put his hands on…stay away from epiphones, except for the Casino model, that one is half decent…but I was wondering what guitar is in the art work sleeve of green mind…is it a gold top? does it have p-90’s? I know it is leaning against a white tolex marshall JTM45 or something..and we know that J doesn’t play epiphones…Does anyone know about what kind of Gibson’s J plays???

I don’t know for sure which model J’s is, but there is an Epiphone in a recent copy of Musician’s Friend that looks just like it (P-90s and all.) It’s labled as "Epiphone Les Paul ’56" so maybe J has an original ’56 Gibson model. I’ve yet to locate a more recent Gibson equivalent, though.

xfm is rather an annoying radio station stuck in a timewarp. they seem to have an obsession with stone roses songs and the evening dj (the one i catch in the car) is a Kiwi who believes that if you dont like the same things he does you have to ‘open your mind’ (unquote) It never occurs to him that he simply may have very poor taste 🙂

still, if they play J they cant all be bad!

anyone got a net ready recording? i was in france at the time

The ‘Independent on Saturday’ a rather upper middle class lefty/ PC/right on broadsheet uk newspaper also gave the new single a good review.

im not sure if that means if its crap or not:-)

I have to say that I have no knowledge of even a single song by Sebadoh. I started getting into Dino in the early 90’s, and the stuff I love most (although I do have and enjoy all the early stuff too) is everything after Lou left. I saw Lou hosting 120 minutes one night and I laughed hysterically when he played an early Dino video (Little Fury Things) and then referred to J’s new stuff as "Dino-Bore Jr." What a sour-grape sucking loser. J’s newer stuff (well, Bug and later) is the stuff J makes that he would want to listen to, and by a miraculous coincidence, it happens to be exactly what I want to hear. I always think of it as music I would like to have written, had I the talent and creativity. I respect an artist with the integrity to play exactly what he or she wants, even though they may have the know-how and ability to create super-polished, radio-friendly money-makers. Sorry for all the hyphenations.

I am starting to think you guys are right.

J should play drums and sing. Many guitarists would give anything to take J’s place on guitar. I don’t think that J is going to be happy with any drummer now because he has decided how all the drum parts for all his songs should sound already. And all the music critics would be baffled! Maybe even DEEPLY disturbed. Some fans would end up in insane asylums. Maybe this is not such a good idea after all…

But I have to say that after thinking about it I was full of it when I said J’s personality does not project in his drumming. Actually nobody sounds like he does. Especially the way he rushes sometimes at the beginning of a drum fill. That is sort of like Deep Wound except they just sped up and slowed down a lot.

I think that J and Lou have no business playing together. But the idea of J haveing a permenant band again would be great.

Lou sucks but… it’s REAL COOL the way he sucks (I don’t want to try to explain that but it’s true….) I got "the Sebadoh" album. I like a couple of the songs on it. ("Flame", "Tree") But I used to have one of Lou’s home made tapes. I liked that better. It TOTALLY SUCKED but it was better. I think Lou should have never entered a recording studio (except with Dino Jr.) I think He should have just stuck with his D.I.Y. condenser mike tape recorder sillyness. There was a spiritual quality in that tape that is also in many of the songs that J wrote.

But some times J’s personality comes across so strong that I just want to JUMP OFF A CLIFF or some thing!!! On two occasions I have had to trash all my Dino Jr recordings because they were edging me toward suicide. Not really but the feeling was getting over powering. There is something Intensely depressing about J.

I think some body LIKE Lou and Pat Murphy in J’s creative process would make things a little less intense. Also somebody who REALLY can SCREAM! J should have a steady band so he can write parts for particular players who are part of his world and live in the northeast (or Amherst Mass. even… )

Maybe all of the Dino Jr records were basically solo projects but the early stuff had better songs. I think it was because J was writing songs for his band to play rather than just what he wanted to hear.
