Mike Myers as Wayne CambellI really like what I’ve heard from the Jayhawks, but haven’t bought anything yet. Same with Son Volt. I have Being There, AM, and Summer Teeth from Wilco and No Depression and Anodyne from Uncle Tupelo. I’ll definitely get some Jayhawks and Son Volt very soon, but I really dig Jeff Tweedy more than any other of the Uncle Tupelo alumni. Check out Nineteen Wheels (from Detroit)sometime, too, they are pretty cool.

"Chops? I don’t have chops. Who do you think I am, Yngwie?" <- J MascisTobin Sprout used to be in Guided by Voices, and I think his music sounds much like them. For the J connection: I guess that some of his stuff is kinda "Martin & Me"-like. Check out http://www.tobinsprout.com for some RealAudio files.
Wilco is great! I really like "Being There", and I’ve always thought that "The Lonely 1" would be a great description of J.
Are you into the Jayhawks? I have "Hollywood Town Hall" and "Tomorrow the green grass" and they’re very good.Jasper
"The chief problem about death, incidentally, is the fear that there may be no afterlife – a depressing thought, particularly for those who have bothered to shave. Also, there is the fear that there is an afterlife but no one will know where it’s being held."– Woody Allen
I’ve never heard of Tobin Sprout, but the fact that a few Dino fans like (him? them? her?)leads me to believe I better look into it. Is the music along the same vein as J’s stuff?
Anybody into Wilco, Uncle Tupelo or any other "Y’all-ternative"?
Chris http://www.jamalong.comSeptember 21, 2000 at 5:51 pm in reply to: J Live Webcast on Nme!camden show 9.8.2000…dead links #54065Hi everyone. I downloaded the Asf recorder thing to record the London J webcast, but i keep getting the message CONREFUSED, does this mean i won’t be able to download it? I hope not, i went to that gig and it was ace, loads of old classics (amazing version of the Wagon). Any advice would be most appreciated. 1 other thing what is a ‘firewall’? (Please excuse my computer ignorance!!)
thanx
dps what did everyone make of the xfm tunes broadcast last night?
Keith, I’m assuming your Pro Reverb uses 6V6 type power tubes…
The new Electro-Harmonix 6V6GT tubes distributed by Sovtek work really well in Fender amps and they’re pretty cheap too. Less than $20 American (a lot less if you shop around.) It’s about time too, it’s been very hard in recent years to find decent 6V6’s. Fender amps drive them a bit harder than other amps, so they would die alot quicker.
Don’t bother with the Groove Tubes either, there expensive and are usaully just relabeled Sovteks. The older kind, I had one of these die on me after a couple of weeks.
I’m assuming that you know to rebias your power tubes when you change them. You could blow your power transformer if your not careful… And that’d be really expensive.
Sovteks preamp tubes have worked pretty well so far as well.
A fuse shouldn’t be hard to locate at all, just make sure you got the right kind. It won’t cost much at all (less than a buck.)
Here’s a link that has a lot of good tube amp info… http://www.geofex.com
Here’s a site that sells just about anything you’d need for an old amp… http://www.ampwares.com/ I haven’t bought anything from them yet, but they look legit.
As far as effects go, I hate just about everything made by DOD. I’m using a BOSS DD-3 digital delay that I’m pretty happy with. It is digital though, and thus sounds nothing like tape delay. Anything by BOSS is gonna cost, but you could just about run over a BOSS pedal with a tank and still take it to your gig. They don’t like to break.
As far as pickups for a Mexican Strat, I’m still in the middle of that discision my self.

"If you can’t pay money… At least pay attention!" – My DadI’ll be at the Atlanta show…
Is anyone else on this board going to be there? We could all meet and say hello…
"If you can’t pay money… At least pay attention!" – My DadI recorded the stuff but only onto tape – I only found out about the broadcast late yesterday afternoon.
There was no date for the J Mascis "hi-jack" perhaps it will be on the xfm site play list. However the "hi-jack" should have J talking about his choices and as we all know J interviews are pretty thin on the ground so it’ll be well worth tuning in for.
I’m going too – it’s a KERRANG! Presents thing so the support should be a bit metal I reckon. I’ll try and find out from J’s press officer who the support band is likely to be and who’s in The Fog……
So did anyone record this???????
Mickey
Thanks for posting this Simon! You rule!

Damn, I missed the J part (I was at work) but I did catch Ween doing "Hi-jack" today and they played some pretty cool stuff. If anyone captured the J stuff please let me know! Also, if you know when the J "Hi-Jack" is post it here or email me!!!!!!

They worked for me too. They broadcasted three songs (Same Day, Ammaring, Waistin’), at about 9.30 PM London time, which was 4.30 PM Eastern Standard US time.
They also said something about J doing their "Hi-Jack" (?) show, which apparantly means that he’s coming to the studio and bring some of his favourite music. Is there anybody who knows more about this?Jasper
