I’m sure they are probably all up there. They were all encoded from people that figured out how to download the realaudio files I had up on my old server so the quality is not very high but you can get a feel of the tunes.
I caught a little heat from this since the people that were doing it also were posting how to burn cd’s from this on the message boards. It probably would not have been so bad if the people that did this would have just kept quite and enjoyed them. Being a huge fan myself I can understand and appreciate why they wanted copies (even if the quality was poor) because I would probably have done the same thing. I have no doubts that the people that are downloading these tracks from Napster or anywhere else will be purchasing this album when it is release. The recent record breaking album sales in the wake of all the Napster/Mp3 controversy will back this up.
It is a great album (to put it lightly) and I, of course, will be buying this as well. Can’t wait to see J playing live again (with Mike Watt, how cool will that be!).

Are you sure that ALL the songs from the album are on Napster? I know that some of the names differ (e.g. the ‘My Life’ MP3 is actually called ‘The Same Day’ and the ‘Come On’ MP3 is actually called ‘Ammaring’) but what about ‘Ground Me To You’, ‘All The Girls’, and ‘More Light’ ? Are they tracks we haven’t heard, or just changed names?
I will also be buying the album as soon as it goes on sale.

NOW THATS A STORYHey Rich,
No need for apoligies, we are in this together just trying to spread the word on J!No bid deal. I should probably start posting all the news to the message boards as well…. I know it gets to be a pain in the ass to check those archives (not to mention some I send out I don’t archive).
I’ll talk to you later….
Jeremiah

Anyway here is what was on his board:J will be in the UK on the 5th and 6th of September. The 5th will be a press day with an acoustic gig taking place probably on the 6th or maybe both.
@ http://www.freakscene.netPlease let me know where.
All right JC, that quote, which is sometimes translated as:A belief is like a guillotine, just as heavy, just as light. was ripped from the pages of The Basic Kafka — I highly recommend picking up a copy of it @ Yr. next visit to the old used book store (or alternatively shoplift one the next time Yr. @ Barnes&Noble).
Thanks for your answer. Having been stationed in Naples for a couple of years, I faintly remember that, in italian, a ‘c’ before an ‘i’ makes the ‘ch’ sound. And the farther south you go in Italy, the ‘ch’ sound becomes more like the ‘sh’ sound (not entirely dissimilar to our own south’s drawl). Blah, blah, blah, anyway…
So it’s pronounced Mashiz?
"A faith like a guillotine, as heavy, as light." — F.K.Hey, where did that "faith like guillotine" quote come from? In Nashville in 1987, a band called "Faith Like Guillotine" opened for Dino at the Exit/In. I still have the promo poster on my wall from that show, but never knew the source of that band’s name
"Mascis," by the way, is shortened from the Sicilian interpretation "Massacista," which, in turn, derives more fully from the Latin "Imamassacista." Check the Unabridged Oxford for correct U.S. pronunciation.
I agree! Remember when Reprise put up that 30 second clip of "I’m Insane" before Hand It Over came out? Until that kind person (that I do not remember his name) put up a copy of the album in RealAudio (a couple weeks later) it was all we had to hear of the new stuff.

"Is DMX tone deaf?"J’s cover of Leaving On A Jet Plane was in Alison Anders’ film ‘Sugar Town’. When J sent me a cd with the demos for the new album he included a copy of this because I had asked him about it. It will not be on ‘More Light’ or the first single ‘Where’d You go’. I suspect it will show up as a b-side on the next single (hopefully).
I had it up for a while…. (long story I don’t want to get into again). I’ll if I can put up one or two more of the new tracks next time I talk to Ultimatum…
And yes it was an electric version. Pretty great song with a good bit of feedback and such but still not venturing too far from the original song structure.
I still think an earlier demo I had heard with J’s old management was a little more stripped down but I only got to hear it over the phone and my mind is playing tricks on me (homie)

Actually, since Ultimatum made it availible to the general public anyway, it could possibly be a strong form of advertizement if it hits Napster. I only hope whoever puts it up there (re)labels properly.
Perhaps Ultimatum relizes that most people simply can’t tell if they like a song by listening to a 30 second clip (I know I can’t.) That’s like half the chorus…

Mattman’s post has been… uh… posted.[This message has been edited by Mattman (edited August 23, 2000).]
Ultimatum seems to be a pretty cool label and all the people I have delt with there have been great. I think they are pretty confident that people are going to like what they hear and go out to buy it. Kind of like a drug dealer 😉
I’ll buy the ‘Where’d You Go’ single too (like always). It is going to have two b-sides that are not on the album…

I’m surprised they’ve put the whole track on the site, rather than a 30 second clip, or low quality sample. It only takes one Napsterite to get it, and the whole world will have it by the time the single gets released. I will, of course, be buying a legit copy, as I have done with everything J has ever released.
Thanks for posting this. I have been a bit sick so I did not get to mail this out…

Jeremiah 🙂I agree with you guys completely, J is *BY FAR* the most talented drummer of the three. I just think his drumming can sometimes overwhelm the songs, if that makes any sense…. thats why i prefer murph.
