quote:
Apparently the tapes used for "My Buddy" are none other than Buddy Rich
himself, bawling out his band. Presumably someone in the band had the good
sense of mind to record his lunatic ramblings.

taken from The Mike Watt/Minutemen/fIREHOSE mailing listWOW. This is the 3rd time I have seen Dinosaur/J and he has as usual blown me away again. I went to the show with Jeremiah and our friend Emily. As soon as we got there Jeremiah knocked on the door to see if we could get in to get some posters signed for a contest when Freakscene.net is reopened. Some guy on the Tremont staff said the band was out getting dinner and would be back later, to knock again when they get back and we might be able to get in. About five minutes later the same guy came outside and said Mike Watt wanted to see Jeremiah, so we all went in and talked with him for what probably an hour maybe longer. We talked about computers, of course and Mike was talking up his iBook and about how Macs are so great. It was a very cool conversation. After that we all went into the Tremont lobby and talked with J and his tour manager. His tour manager told us the story of how they met. He was managing a band (not sure which, Jeremiah will probably remember) a couple of years ago that was playing the same gig as Dinosaur and there was some kind of time conflict about who could play at the gig and of course Dinosaur Jr had priority. They went on and didn’t let his band play. A year later he was having a party on his boat and he saw J there and immediately kicked him off for what he had done the year before. He then said over time they kept running into each other thru different acqaintances and became friends now laughing about their former argument. Anyway, for the next 2+ hours the opening bands played one of them included J’s former roadie (there’s a really funny story that involves a stripper, a guitar strap and his former roadie Jeremiah will have to tell you about). While the opening bands played, Jeremiah talked with people from the freakscene boards and we waited patiently for J & the Fog to come out. Finally the taped preshow soundbyte (I think J said it was snippit of Charlie Richie? yelling at his band) started playing and we got in our positions at the front and they came out to play. For anyone who hasn’t seen J or Mike Watt play live yet, do it . J’s screaching solos and Mikes thundering bass and energy on stage make a unique and amazing combination. After the show we stayed and talked with J and George for a little while. In all the experience was surreal, I never thought that I would be able to talk to J. He and his entire crew were very friendly. Sorry if I ranted too much, it was a lot to take-in in one night and I am still recovering from an amazing experience. Anything I have left out I am sure Jeremiah will mention.
-a little note: Jeremiah managed to get some posters signed by the entire band for the reopening of freakscene.net, hope i didn’t give too much away
out there and alone, the best, makes you wanna cry

I would say 1995 (I can’t remember the exact date) but it was at the Trocadero in Philadelphia and they were touring for "Where you Been." It was so rockin’ because it was also the first time I ever saw them and I was blown away. I’ve seen J. a few times since then acoustically, but I’d always hoped for him to go electric again. When I saw him at the Troubadour in LA a few months ago, I was again blown away. I guess everytime is my favorite so just bear with me. I can’t wait to see him again in April in LA, now that I am know all the new stuff.

I would have to say last year in Melbourne was the best gig ever(acoustic).
It was such a great gig that I sold my $3000 5 string bass and started playing acoustic guitar!(Only j could have that affect)
later trav!

"Alright, thanks alot"-Mr J MascisApril 1995 at The Metro, Sydney, Australia. I was 13 at the time and it was my first gig. It’s still the best gig I’ve ever been too.

Hey Apache,
Hope your still heading out to Texas to catch Ron Asheton with the Fog…way too cool to miss!! Just heard that Wayne Kramers project Mad For The Racket is playing in Orange County, Ca. this Tuesday the 13th. They are playing at some small club called Club Mesa as a warm up for the gig in Texas on the 17th. Described by British Press as " A merciless sonic onslaught"….sounds pretty good to me!!

Well, I updated my page with the mp3 of Get Me. It’s my brother who’s singing (please, don’t take it against him). The drums are done by a computerprogram. When I made it, I didn’t have very good sound samples, so the drums are a bit cheezy, but I think it sounds OK. It’s me my self and I on guitar, both rythm and solo. I hope you like it and I’d appreciate it if anyone would let me know what you think of it.
The adress is: http://www.geocities.com/irishwhip_lh/
and then go the the MP3-section. At the top it says Get Me. The other songs are no covers, just songs I created myself.Pim
I would like to hear your cover of "Get Me".
A garage band of mine covered "What else
is New" a couple years ago, but we never
recorded it. It was fun to play.
