Completely different sounds… not even close. I have modded a USA reissue back to the original specs, but the amount of components you have to change is just stupid… and the ones I’ve built from scratch STILL sound more like an original Muff than the modified reissue.
Hmmm… I just took a look on MF, and the Small Stone goes for $82… the MXR for $69.
Are you looking at the "Custom Shop Script" MXR? That’s going for $99… but don’t be fooled into buying that… if you buy the $69 "Block logo" version, and remove R28, you’ll have essentially the same sound.
Also an amazing rip-off is the $129 "EVH" Phase 90… which simply has a switch to add or remove R28. If anyone is interested in having that option, I can tell you haw to do it to the regular P90 for about $3.
Forget the Small Stone… get an MXR Phase 90, open it up, and cut out R28. Best phaser sound you’ll find, and much more reliable than the Small Stone. Not to mention half the size, and less money!
Any time I’m listening to the CD in my car, I think it’s my cell phone ringing and I stop the CD. I fall for it every time!

OK… it still doesn’t sound as good as my triangle version… but for $80 it sounds pretty damn amazing!
I was at Newbury Comics as soon as they opened… $11.88. Wish I had seen that $9.99 coupon.

I sure hope this goes better, because that one was terrible! The host didn’t know anything about them. Lou was getting mad because they played mostly songs from WYB or later. The host didn’t even seem to know that there was a time when Lou wasn’t in the band. The best part was when the host directed a question to "Murphy"… but Murph wasn’t even there… and the host says, "Oh, then who is this guy?" and it was somebody who worked at the station.

Dude… I was joking… they’ve played Boston 4 times since the tour began.
What? No Boston?!
Thanks! I figured it needed to be purple in honor of J.
Just for kicks… here’s the treble booster that I made…

The first Dino song I heard was Bulbs of Passion on a compilation tape called "Nothing Short of Total War" in 1989.
I almost don’t need this DVD because that MidEast show is permanently burned into my brain… but I still can’t wait to see it again… and again… and again…. and again!

The original Rangmaster used a PNP (typically an OC44). The Germania also uses this. Great sound, but the problem is that the polarity is opposite of most effects. Not a problem if you’re going to run it from a battery… BIG problem if you’re going to plug it into a power supply.
I made mine with an NPN (OC140) because it goes on my pedalboard and plugs into the power supply with a bunch of other pedals. Personally, I can’t hear a difference in the sound between a PNP and an NPN, but I guess there is some slight difference.
