Cool thread!
I went to high school with J. I have never downhill skied, prabably because of J and his "Ski Punk" buddies who always were bragging about running people down on the ski slopes. SKI PUNGKS!!!!
I never got over it… I consider cross country skiing SKIING. Down hill is hocky.
…reach on down and pet your puppy
It’ll be neat, It’ll be cool
but ya can’t take him to boarding school…eeeeeuhhhhhrrrrrrziziziziizizizizizibladididididit….
Sorry I can’t remember the rest. What day is it anyway? ….oh yeah.
I think that Artie is on the back of the BBC Sessions too(or in there some where…) I met Artie and J once. A girl said to J "Is this your freind?" J said "I have no freinds…" Artie grinned. They were convinced that Artie had a perfectly square head.
I did not know that Artie could sing though. I thought he was just Dino’s mascot or something.
Also, I thought that Artie was the Guy standing in the field of popies on the cover of the Dinosaur record as well as the sun. So… who is that standing then?
Go to eBay young man!!
I’ve seen one of those J is God issues up for auction twice. I think there are two of them. One has a question mark and the other is more certain of it’s self. The pic of J on the one with a question mark is more hip. The other is more… purple.
I had assumed the interviews were on line
already. Thanks for the link to that Real audio interview at Spin DeepSludge!
George Berz forgot he was in Swish. What did J forget? He forgot Upside Down Cross for one. Or was he just producer there. Maybe he would rather forget… HE FORGOT THAT EXCREMENT EATER! What else…?
Great old interview! Thanks!!
"Music critic Robert Hilburn has noted that interviewing J. Mascis is like throwing a ball to a dog that responds by just staring at you dumbly rather than chase the ball. "
RYAKIDDENnMEEE!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!
Lou used to play chords on his base when J solo-ed!
I’ve heard that Kieth Richards likes to play his Telecaster guitar with 5 strings but a two string bass is sort of like a low tech joke of some kind.
Well there’s this House of Bluse thing in a week…
http://www.hob.com/live/events/eventpage.asp?event=010619jmascisandthefogThen there is this thing which is J and Fog live and a little fuzzy. Feb 6 2001
http://www.dcn.com/mpr/intro.ram?rtsp://209.10.72.118/archives/j/jmascis_010206_littlebrothers.rmThen there is this:
"Here is a link to the French gig, definitely better sound and picture… http://www.labels.tm.fr/jmascisandthefog/index.shtml "
So says Allison (Bates)
Well it’s got a picture of pretty blue lights… Oh there we go! That is better!! That’s from 11-27-2000 J Mascis and the Fog
I know there are more out there…
Then there is Js association with that Bender guy (Niel?) from Alien Workshop. He’s done a number of covers for Dionsaur albums.
Personally I don’t think there are such things as space aliens. It does not make sense. It makes more sense to say they are earth aliens. Like some kind of secret human culture. Or maybe the MK Ultra mind control project has taken on a life of it’s own and the flying disk stuff is just a big hoax to cover something like that up.
But it all is kind of hard to take….
Basically even if alien life existed how would they get here. But then we have NASA looking for them with thier strange desparation. Desparation for our tax dollars I think!
I don’t know… This stuff is endless and there is always a point at which it takes on religiouse tones.
Yikes!!
THanks for the dicography RD
But there is an element missing. Like some folks are saying that Green Mind was on vinyl only in the UK. Maybe they are wrong. Also it would be nice to have relese dates.
I like the Stranglers. At their official web site they have two (maybe more now that I think of it) discographies. One is Just the bands albums and compilations with song titles listed. The other is everything about each album like relese dates and national origin. Also solo projects and spinoffs are listed.
I think a Dino Jr. detailed discography should also have all the bootlegs (maybe just the prolific boot legs now that I think of it.)
I suspect there are folks looking at this page who know different parts of this stuff. Maybe it all cold be put together.
Could this have anything to do with the Acustic album J did titled "Martin And Me"?
hey Uma’s Cow
Sorry I misunderstood your name. Uhh… I didn’t really know who Uma was until about 3 mounths ago. My brother says he went out with her though…
I just got another base drum pedal and I have to say that it is a million times better than my old one. Actuall the new one is old and the old one is new. My old one is this fancy EDP 300 by Premier (it sucks.) My new one is a Pearl chain drive which is very similar to the classic Camco design that is copied religiously by Drum Workshop and Tama. It is lightwheight and floppy. It has a heal plate, which gives you more control. It has a long action (IE the beater goes a long way when you press the foot board) and quick rebound.
So I guess the bass drum pedal does matter. The EDP 300 made me tired quick. It is tight and stiff. My Pearl is loose and bouncy. But I could still play Budge on the EDP 300. I was just kind of sloppy.
Mmmmm…. Yeah… Sold on ebay last week for $20 sometin’.
…Maybe I should have bid on it…
Just be careful, cause ebay is an ADDICTIVE, NARCOTIC, MIND NUMBING,… Maybe I sould get a hacker friend to crash ebay before I get my self in debt….
But seriously, the fact is that CDs suck and vinyl RULES!!! (I gess I am just a low fidelity fanatic…)
I think "Where’d you go" is some kind of parody song. I saw a poster in a record store for More light that J had signed. On the little bat guy J had written "I’m J." I think he is kind of at odds with so much of him self being packaged in a little plastic disk. Maybe he’s not sure what he’s doing in that CD bin…
I thought it sounded like a Foo Fighters song. I think it is probably ment to sound derivitive and remind you of a lot of songs. Maybe it is a kinder gentler veriety of audience abuse. That was a big part of the hard core scene that J grew up with.
I have to say I love the lead guitar sound in "Ground Me To You." It is kind of like when you press down one of those pedals on a piano and all the strings start to resonate.
The Dinosaure CD is is on a ebay auction right now. The current bid is $16.50 plus 4.00 shipping. Bidding ends Jun-07-01 08:33:59 PDT
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1435681840I have not ben to Circuit City in a while… I’ll go there instead…
But I have to say that ebay is Dino land!! You just need to be ready to spend money thats all.
I think that photo is from a music video he did in the 90s. I can’t remember what song it was for, but there was snow on the ground and a lot of people around a bond fire. Also I think that was a Jaguar rather than the usual Jazzmaster.
Maybe the shot had a "solerize" video effect on it…
