The new look is pretty cool, good work Jeremiah!
I heard a story once about a local drum teacher;he met up with Buddy Rich and started saying "You`re Buddy Rich, you`re the greatest, etc."
What did Buddy Rich do?broke a drum stick on the guy`s head!.
One of coolest Buddy albums I heard is the album with Max Roach,a drum battle album, very cool with a big band, from 1959.
I also have one from 1974 called Tuff Dude which is pretty good as well.Hey Allison,I did`nt know you liked the Archers Of Loaf,Telepathic Traffic is a great tune,I have The Speed Of Cattle compilation on double vinyl, vinyl is rare where I live.
Here`s some more good tunes:
Pavement-Cut Your Hair
Yo La Tengo-Sugarcube
Bettie Serveert-Tom Boy
Versus-Yeah You
My Bloody Valentine-Only Shallow(I once saw a fashion show on tv that were playing this in the background, weird.)
Guided By Voices-Official Iron Man Rally SongListening habits can be strange sometimes, when I was younger I might listen to a few songs from an album and play them the most and not bother with the rest of it.
In the past 8 years I`ve started to listening to the entire album, looked at the liner notes after I listen to it and not always pay much attention to song titles.
These days I set the cd player on shuffle and play 5 tunes and then switch it to another cd.
For the mp3`s I taped from my computer I just play the stuff I like and skip the stuff I`m not too into.Bought these yesterday:
Archers Of Loaf-Seconds Before The Accident
Miles Davis-Miles Ahead
Ride-Smile
Mean Red Spiders-Starsandsons
Spain-The Blue Moods Of Spain
Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays-As Falls Witicha,So Falls Witicha Falls
Birddog-A Sweet And Bitter FancyI did`nt have enough money for Wayne Kramer`s The Hard Stuff(is this album good Allison?)
I talked to the guy that works at the store, never talked to this guy before,an indie fan;really cool guy, told him about this site;we talked about J,he likes More Light,You`re Living All Over Me is his fav album.
I agree with Javro;Nirvana was very popular before Kurt`s death.Nirvana`s popularity did`nt die quickly after his death, people still talk about them today,so Jaron is partly right.
Hendrix,Joplin, and Morrison deaths have made them more popluar than in their lifetime.Look at Nick Drake;hardly anyone knew his music during his lifetime,he`s become more well known over the years.I heard J say a quote once-"I contemplate suicide at least once a day,at least my album sales would go up."
I`d pick:
Dinosaur Jr-The Wagon
Modest Mouse-Dramamine
GBV-Chasing Heather Crazy
Husker Du-Eiffel Tower High
Sebadoh-Rebound
Sugar-A Good IdeaHow`s that,do you want more?
Hope you have these Matt.
Spaceboy`s right-Whatever`s cool… is not an album, some those tunes also appeared on "The Wagon" 12 inch.
I know we don`t always agree on the same music but:
MxPx-I`m OK,You`re OK-good tune,I like some of their songs, there`s this tune by the Descendents called"Get The Time",ever hear it?it screams out to be covered by MxPx.I like my heroes alive too.
Allison-that J quote is old,it was in a cd guide book I was looking at in a book store.More Light is positive I agree,so I think J is a little more optimistic than years ago. Some good tunes there,Turnipfarmer
Cranes-I was listening to Pop. 4 last night;"Can`t Get Free" is a sunny tune.
Pavement-"Major Leagues" is a good tune, have the EP of it,has 2 cool cover songs by Echo And The Bunnymen and The Fall.
Breeders-"Divine Hammer"-have the EP of that too as well as Last Splash;one of my fav Breeders tunes.
Pixies-"Monkey Gone To Heaven"-One of all time fav songs.
Buffalo Tom-"Taillights Fade"-great tune and from one of my fav albums. The Raincoats-The Raincoats
I was listening to it last night, great album.
Their cover of the Kinks` "Lola" is cool!Could`nt find any mp3`s for The Exploder.
The favorite guitarist besides J was the first poll I created so in retrospect I agree that there was`nt many options and I was mostly picking favorites;Spaceboy picked his fav songwriters so I thought I pick a few guitarists, there`s alot of other guitarists I like besides those 5;I agree it was`nt a great poll but I`ll try to learn on other polls to add more options and try to be more diversified.
By the way,I `ve heard at least 400 jazz albums before I ever bought an indie rock album. No matter the poll options people are going to ask "where`s ?";I suggest everyone to come up with their own polls so they can put up options that they like.
A bunch of polls will make the topics more interesting, they don`t take long to create so everyone should do some. -
