My apologies for what got left out, this is what was mentioned the most.
Spaceboy-yeah that Palace Brothers record is called Days In The Wake but that title is not even written on it!
I suggest all of you to create your own polls;there`s lots of ones you can do like Best Black Sabbath Album or song or Best Minutemen song or album or whatever,or best classic rock guitarist or album or whatever!Hey Tom N:
I wrote up a post on what I know about music in Virginia in open topic.so check that out.Tough call,J mixed all those things in his playing;but I think the Detroit sound is the most visible,J likes those wild solos more than punk chording.

I know we`re going off topic with this;Jaron, have you ever heard a Richmond band called The Exploder? They do emo rock, really screaming stuff.I`ll see if I can find a mp3 by them.
The Hurricane Lamps I first heard on the radio, they said on the radio they`re from Vienna,VA;now I just checked for an mp3 of them at Listen.com;type in their name and it will list 1 mp3 by them, click on that and that will take you to Inkblotmagazine `s site;they show the Hurricane lamps album cover there and list the label`s address as in Vienna,Va,but say the band is ‘Outta DC’ so I don`t know now if they `re from there or not,the label is though-Sonic Boomarang records.
They compare them to Sebadoh,Archers Of Loaf and Superchunk;check out the mp3 and see what you think.Your from Vienna,Va!,ever hear of a band called the Hurricane Lamps?they`re an indie band from Vienna,VA.I heard a couple of songs by them, pretty good;I was wondering where Vienna,VA was!Don`t know if their in your taste of music but I`d thought I`d mention them.
I did`nt include J `s albums in this,it`s obvious on a J fan site that J`s albums would problably be your fav;since I did the other poll of your fav J album it`s pointless to repeat here.
Yeah Eggwater is right;check out the stuff Eggwater mentioned by MBV;also check out the Strawberry Wine and Ecstasy EP`s,which has been issued on cd as Ecstasy And Wine;I found a copy of it 2 years ago in a used store,I think it`s out of print and problably hard to find, look around for it anyway;Do you have those EP`s Eggwater?
Stupid me traded that cd to a friend for a few cd`s,he traded it to someone else and who knows where it is now!I taped it anyway so I can still listen to it,I wish I kept the cd though! My picks for My Bloody Valentine would be Loveless first,One of my all time fav albums and Is`nt Anything second;you should be able to find them, their bass player was from Germany!plus their still pretty popular in indie music circles even 10 years later since the release of Loveless.
Hey Turnipfarmer:
I thought up some bands of the Slowdive type:
Lush-You problably know them, their early stuff was Cocteau Twins influenced, their final album in 96 was more Brit pop.check out their early stuff if you have`nt already.
Medicine-american band that I find kind of uneven, sometimes good sometimes boring, their ep Sounds of medicine features a song with the Cocteau Twins and a song remixed by Billy Corgan and drums by Jimmy Chamberlain,it also has a 16 minute noise piece live in New Orleans.Their album the Buried Life is something to check out,I only heard one tune from it but it does sound good.
Spiritualized-If you have`nt checked them out,do so,they have a new album out soon, check out their 97 album-Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space, their music is orchestral, trumpets, saxs, violins, choirs, etc.but still keep loud guitars up front,I think of them being a cross between the Velvet Underground and Sun Ra.
His Name Is Alive and Pale Saints-have`nt checked out their stuff so I can`t tell you much but they`re in the vein of Slowdive type stuff I`m told.I was thinking about some early examples of strange songtitles:
Erik Satie-French Composer who lived during the late 19th century and early 20th century, his titles were like:
Authentic Flabby Preludes-for a dog
The Bean King`s War Chant
Being Jealous of his comrade with the big head,2
Him eat his cookie,3
Taking advantage of his corns to steal his hoopCharles Mingus-jazz musician from the 1940`s to the 1970`s,his titles were like:
She`s just miss popular hybrid
All the things you could be by now if Sigmund Freud `s wife was your mother
New Now Know How
Meditation for a pair of wire cutters
Tonight At Noon
The Shoes of the fishermen`s wife are some jive ass slippersThe Mojave 3 album to check out is their second album-"Out Of Tune";as I said it`s in a Nick Drake/Neil Young Folk/country vein,it`s 3 ex Slowdive people.
The Cranes-back in 98 I saw "Population 4" in a music store and thought I`d buy it;I never heard any of their music before, when I heard Allison`s voice I did`nt like it,it was like Juliana Hatfield to the 9th degree; But I kept listening to it and after awhile I started really liking it,her voice I started liking more too;I also found a copy of "Forever" around which I like even better than "Population 4".Their guitar playing is bizzare,it`s kind of like My Bloody Valentine`s guitar trickery, not really sure what they`re doing but it sounds cool.
Cocteau Twins-Love them; One day I was walking home from High School and down the road from my school was this used book store, very small place,I went in and looked around and found a copy of Cocteau Twins-"Heaven Or Las Vegas" cd and Bob Mould-"Black Sheets Of Rain" on tape.I heard the Cocteau`s on the radio in an interview, very nice people and they played 2 songs from "Four Calender Cafe",that`s when I first heard of them,"Heaven Or Las Vegas" is my favorite album by them, beautiful songs.
Other bands in this style I`ll think about and post later.Don`t blame Spaceboy,Jaron.I created the poll,I suggest you do your own poll and include Pumpkin members.
Yeah Ira is in YLT.
