I heard Man Or Astroman talking about that everyone should cover their roofs with aluminium foil.Maybe they know about this! The beanie idea sounds good, canadian coins are useless anyway,I heard last night they`re going to bring back paper dollar and 2 dollar bills in Canada again because people are sick of carrying around a ton a change.

I came across this and thought I add to it.When I went through the memberlist there was`nt too many female singers named.I did`nt get into too many female singers until I started listening to punk/indie stuff, even when I listened to jazz/blues I was`nt that much into female singers, some of them but not many.
Here`s some of my fav female singers:
Kim Deal(Pixies/Breeders)-There`s a new Breeders album coming out soon, with a new lineup;featuring Kim with 2 guys from Fear and a guy from 22 Jacks.
            Kim Gordon
            Belinda Butcher(MBV)
            Tayna Donnely(Throwing Muses/Breeders/Belly)
            Kristin Hersh
            Thalia Zedek(Come)
            Rebecca Gates(Spinanes)
            Georgia Hubley(Yo La Tengo)
            Hope Sandoval(Mazzy Star)
            Juliana Hatfield
Marcy Mays(Scrawl)(check out the Afghan Whigs song `My Curse` from their "Gentlemen"album,Marcy guests on this tune and does a great performance)
            Carol Van Dijk(Bettie Serveert)(originally a canadian,from British Columbia I think.)
Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein(Sleater Kinney)(Corin sings like she going to have a brain hemmorage or something, very intense singer;Carrie is a good singer as well.)
Liz Fraser(Cocteau Twins)(I don`t know what the hell she`s singing about but who cares!Amazing voice.)
Caroline Finch(Linoelum)(What ever happened to her or that band?Does anybody know?)
Carla Bozalich(Geraldine Fibbers)(check out `Dragon Lady` from their "Lost Somewhere…" album;I always get a kick out of it.)
            Mary Lou Lord(anyone who quotes J is cool,she quoted `Freak Scene` in her song `Western Union Desperate`.)
            Harriet Wheeler(Sundays)
Fontaine Toups(Versus)(great lead and backup singer)
            PJ Harvey
Raincoats(the women in the Raincoats were bizzare singers but very cool,Kurt Cobain loved them.)
Janet Beveridge Bean(Eleventh Dream Day/Freakwater)(does mostly backing vocals, love her voice.)
Jane(don`t know her last name;Perfume Tree)(their early stuff was guitars, voice and dance beats;I usually don`t like stuff like this, but perfume tree are cool, their more recent stuff is more electronic;one critic called them"Sarah Maclachlan meets the Orb")
Alison Shaw(Cranes)(If you thought Juliana has a baby doll voice, check out Alison;very sweet singer.)
Linda Hopper(Magnapop)(Maganaop has been called "Debbie Harry meets Husker Du".)
            Isobel Campbell(Belle And Sebastian/Gentle Waves)
Mary Weiss(Shangri-La`s)(She was the best singer in the Shangri-La`s,sang lead vocals on a lot of their tunes including`Leader Of The Pack`;Johnny Thunders was a fan,and I suspect the Ramones were too, being from Queens like the Ramones.)
Etta James(good call Allison for calling her cool,I Like her better than Aretha; She never got the promotion to be a well known queen of soul, always got stuck with a blues singer label, she `s definitely a soul singer or even jazz singer when she wants to do that, like the Billie Holliday tribute she did.I think she also sang with the Rolling Stones on the song`Gimme Shelter`;You can hear Mick say;`C`mon Etta` or something like that before she sings in the middle of that tune.)
Billie Holliday(one of my fav jazz singers)
Anita O`day(another fav jazz singer, still alive too;she`s like 82 now;I don`t think she sings too often anymore.Check out any of her 50`s and 60`s records if you like jazz singers.)
Bessie Smith(Best blues singer ever, she was around in the 20`s and early 30`s,powerful voice and powerful woman, there`s stories of her throwing men threw windows!and ripping up the curtains of the stage where she performed at.)
Astrud Gilberto(Brazilian singer who can so sing!Jebus likes her too and so do I.)
Julie London(good lounge singer in the 50`s and 60`s and actress, she was in the TV show "Emergency" in the 70`s,played a nurse.)

            I think I mentioned enough.

Here`s part 3 of "Fossil Fuel" by Mike Mettler
                from Guitar Nov 94:

(Mascis believes this painstaking procedure was the main reason the songs on the two albums prior to Sound(Where You Been and 91`s Green Mind)did`nt end up to his complete satisfaction. The net result:Murph is officially banished from the band and Mascis is the sole drummer credited on the new album."It`s much better this way,"Mascis explains."I did`nt have to nail down the drums beforehand to teach to someone else.I did`nt even have to work it out or overanalyze it.I just played it straight, which made the music much looser. So Mike(Johnson, bassist) and I recorded the bass and drum part together. As for the songs themselves,I just wrote them on my guitar."
(J penned most of the album on a pair of Martins, one being an"experimental"unissued model sporting a wide neck, the other a D-28S with similar specs."they`re both made of Brazilian rosewood, which makes a big diffrence to me soundwise,"(he raves)."I like acoustics with wider necks because I don`t like my fingers getting in the way of each other."(Mascis cites Bob Dylan, folkie Nick Drake, and Ron Wood as acoustic influences, but his biggest unplugged hero contiues to be the venerable Richard Thompson."I just did a song of his,`I Misunderstood` for a all-covers album,"(he says proudly. With Firehose`s low end monster bassist Mike Watt on board as his sole support,Mascis blazes through this track from Thompson`s heralded `91 effort,Rumor And Sigh, and the songalso can be found on Capitol`s just released Beat The Retreat(Songs by Richard Thompson).(Incidently,Mascis pops up on another current tribute album,Mercury`s Kiss My Ass compilation, where he puts his own indelible, rough hewn stamp on "Goin Blind".)

Here`s part 2 of "Fossil Fuel" by Mike Mettler
                  from Guitar Nov 94:

(That relaxed country feel stems from Mascis`recently revised songwriting approch. While Dinosaur Jr.`s previous album,1993`s Where You Been, was more deliberately and dramatically arranged to include instrumentation courtesy of tympani, chimes, violin, cello, and kettle drum,Without A Sound avoids any overt orchestrtation, instead coming across as looser and more confident at it`s core.)
(Mascis is well aware of the diffrence. For him,a song needs three basic elements at heart to suceed:guitar,melody,and-this is the key-drums.Fact is,Mascis was a drummer himself when he burst on the scene in the early 80`s as a member of the hardcore outfit Deep Wound. When he started up the Dinosaur jr franchise in `85,he switched over to guitar and employed a friend known as Murph(a.k.a. Patrick Murphy)to pound the skins in his stead. But Mascis eventually found himself spending more and more time laying down precision drumming on his demos so that Murph would know exactly what Mascis wanted to hear, beat for beat.)

I just saw a Sparklehorse video!Go to Yahoo.com and scroll down to the entertainment section and click on music, scroll down to artists section and click on and then type in Sparklehorse, that will list 4 sites, click on the first;Capitol records site and when you get there click on tracks and on the left is the listings to the distorted ghost ep,there is the video for Happy Man in windows media, click that on and you have it.
Beck is someone else who Sparkhorse has been compared to,the strange lyrics and experimental production are Beck like.
There`s this band from North Dakota called June Panic, that`s kind of like Sparklehorse,go to epitonic.com and click on the indie rock section and scroll down the little box of bands till you get to June Panic, there`s some mp3`s there, check out the songs "Born on a saturday" and "gender bender".

They sound a little like Neil Young.I also find him kind of like Tobin Sprout, who used to be in Guided By Voices. The production on the albums is very impressive, alotof weird stuff going on.Check out their cd`s-Vivadixie… and good morning spider.they`re hard to describe so I hope I helped you out,to hear them is the best way.Sometimes the songs are slow acoustic tunes, other times rockers.

As I said in my last post, they don`t make them anymore. They were Sony earphones,I don`t know what they were called, they cost me$44.95 in 1993.They had an amazing sound, the guitars would screach your ears off when you turned them loud, the drums were very clear, you would never miss a beat and bass lines were easy to follow.I don`t know if I will ever find anything like them again.

From 1993 to last year I had a pair of earphones that were amazing, but over time they were a mess of dust and dirt, the covers had to be changed every 2 years or so,and close to shorting out.In august of last year I bought those headphones thinking they would be as good as earphones,of course thay were different but they were around the same price,so I expected them to be the same.
Last christmas and on my birthday I tried out some other ones, one at the same price but smaller which was too trebly, and one that was $30 more that louder but seemed to pick up a lot of hiss, even from CD.So I took both of them back, which is something I never do,I never return items, but I did`nt see the point in keeping them.
They don`t even make the earphones I had anymore so I can`t buy that kind.
Thanks to Eggwater for his suggestion.
ELJ-if you heard the earphones I used to have you`d be amazed by the sound.

Here`s Part 1 of "Fossil Fuel"by Mike Mettler
                                  from Guitar Nov94:

(Face it:You can try and try and try,but you just can`t pidgeonhole the sound of Dinosaur Jr.`s gifted guitarist,J Mascis. There`s a wee too much single-note acoustic Martin pickin on his band`s new Without A sound(Sire/Waner Bros.)to hold upthe crusty ol tags"grunge" or "alternative" for very long if anything Mascis is the alternative to alternative-as a couple of Sound`s steller,in yer face wind outs(the agressive Yeah Right and balls out Grab it)or a few tunes rooted in country traditions(the tremulous I Don`t Think So and the jangly On The Brink)easily attest.actually, there is problably no tag J would be comfortable accepting.)
"There always seems to be another label,"(he laments)"first it was grunge then slacker and now Generation X is the latest one. They`re all annoying, obviously. If anything,I`d rather be called punk rock."(Fair enough,The aesthetics of the fabled punk movement are indeed pervasive throughout the Dinosaur jr canon, which consists of six albums and a gaggle of EP`s and bonus track filled import singles;in fact, the lineage of the 28 year old Amherst,Mass. native`s first three albums-1985`s Dinosaur,1987`sYou`re Living All Over Me,and 1988`s Bug-can be traced immediatly to the family tree branch that bears the name of punk`s direct decendent, hardcore.Even back then,Mascis readily displayed an inherant knack for adding a twist to the punk equation:"The original concept was to play country really loud,"(he said at the time.Today he appears much closer to acheving that pariticular goal, especially on a track like the aforementioned`I Don`t Think So`,whose ringing, right channel solo chimes of Sweetheart of the rodeo-era Byrds)"Yeah, that ones pretty country,"(Mascis agrees)"But I don`t follow the current country scene at all.I just like classic players like James Burton,Glen Campbell, and the Byrds guy-what`s his name?-Clarence White."
