Listen to the man,everybody!
Yeah More Light is way cool,if J did a whole album of songs like it,it would be worth it.
More people should rant more like that;very cool Kurticus7!I thought about another rumor, actually it came from Bob Mould so it`s problably true.
When Husker was first starting out they were going to play a gig with the Clash in Minneapolis. The problem was the gig was in a bad part of town,so Bob told Joe Strummer"we may get shot but if that does`nt bother you,we`ll do it!"Hey Jebus-
I noticed you mentioned Trace by Son Volt;I was talking about band rumors earlier and forgot to mention Son Volt;did you hear that rumor that on trace the female backing vocals were done by Tanya Tucker? My guess it`s not, problably Farrar`s wife.Did you ever hear about this before? The first Mike Ness album I don`t have but heard played in the music store, why would he team up with Brian Seltzer and Springsteen?
I do have that 2nd Ness album of old country tunes,it`s awesome!Best cover of Marty Robbins`big iron` I ever heard;some lame new country guy covered it a few years ago and it sucked!Mike just kicks ass on it!Another good tune is the Carter Family`s`Wildwood flower`
where Mike`s distorted punk chords mix with a banjo and pedal steel! My Mom met the surviving Carter Family in the 60`s!The Carter`s if you did`nt know was around on the 20`s and 30`s and wrote the song`No depression`which Uncle Tupelo covered and named the Alt country scene no depression.
My Mom also met the Ventures in the 60`s!
I`m sure Man or astroman would find that cool!

Good call Allison on Husker and Social D.!
Husker`s version of `Eight miles high`is amazing! When Bob starts screaming toward the end it`s just amazing!
Social D`s version of `under my thumb` is awesome!they recorded in the early days, that`s on a compilation and on "white light/heat/trash" as the unlisted track at the end as well as on their live at the roxy album
Which one do you like?I Have`nt heard the early one but between the other 2,the white light one rips!
This afternoon I was checking out a Yo La Tengo site with a ton of mp3`s,mostly live stuff and remember I mentioned `rocks off` by the stones?Yo La Tengo covered it live!
but I could`nt get it to work!,the other songs seem to be working so I guess it`s just that one,I`ll try another day.If you want to check it out it`s at Sunsquashed.com
there`s alot of cover songs;some Bowie,Kinks,Grateful dead,Pavement(with Malkmus),Velvets,Fleetwood Mac,etc.
When I think of some cool cover songs I`ll mention them!give me time!Glen from Truman`s water found God and now does Alt-Christian rock, under the name Soul Junk.If you want to check them out go to a site called mp3it they have some Soul junk material.Click on the browse section when you get to the home page and scroll down, all the bands are in alphabetical order of couse.
Cool choices Javro!,Drop 19`s Deleware!-I thought no one else even heard of them! That Truman`s Water album is cool, don`t have it but I heard `the aroma of Gina Arnold`on the radio before;wicked tune!BT`s Big Red Letter Day is my 2nd fav BT album,I think that album gets overlooked.
Here`s my fav Jazz and Blues records:
Jazz:
Miles Davis-Kind of Blue
John Coltrane-A Love Supreme
Charles Mingus-Right now:at the jazz workshop
Ornette Coleman-Free Jazz
Cecil Taylor-Conquitstador
Blues:
Lightnin Hopkins-Country Blues
Blind Willie Johnson-The Complete Blind Willie Johnson
Bessie Smith-The Collection
Leadbelly-Leadbelly(1935 sessions)
John Lee Hooker-If You Miss im,I got imYeah,October is a wierd time in Canada.
Everytime I listen to Sonic Youth`s Evol album
it reminds me of October, the wierd atmosphere
outside and it`s close to halloween,SY`s music good for that season, check out the cover for Bad moon Rising of a Jack o`lantern on top of scarecrow, kinda spooky!
Pee Wee`s face on Mars;that`s cool.
Both of the cd`s I bought that day were halloweeny as well;the Beathappening album has a song called`pajama party in a haunted hive` and a song called`grave digger blues`.
The poison 13 cd is a compilation of all the stuff they`d done.Poison 13 was a Texas punk/blues band in a Cramps/Stooges style
very cool;very voodoo kind of stuff. If you ever see it check it out.One of the guitarists
plays in a Mudhoney side band called the Monkey wrench and I think Founded Tim Kerr records of Portland Oregon.`Noon at Dawn` sounds like a Mingus song title;Mingus once had a song called` Tonight at Noon`.
Yeah,`more light` is an awesome tune;I think with Kevin Shields there J wanted to do a My Bloody Valentine type song, with the noise swirling around, driving bass and drums.
Here`s my 16-20:
Guided By Voices-Alien Lanes
Cocteau Twins-Heaven or Los Vegas
Palace Brothers-Palace Brothers(Days in the wake)
Nick Drake-Pink Moon
Mazzy Star-She Hangs Brightly
Here`s my fav classic rock albums-top 5:
Neil Young-Rust Never Sleeps
Rolling Stones-Exile on Main Street
Beatles-White Album
Jimi Hendrix-Nine to the universe(If you`re all going "wha" this is a pretty amazing album, mostly instrumental,so you get to hear Hendrix`s guitar playing on top; There`s one track with jazz organist Larry Young, the only singing is Jimi singing one verse-"I am what I am thank God,some people don`t understand help them God"Amen to that)
The Who-Live at Leeds(I heard Mike Watt talking about this in an interview,it`s one of his favs.)
My fav jazz/blues albums are coming soon.I`m glad someone mentioned Slint;they were awesome!"spiderland" will be later on my list.
I have a story I heard on the radio about Mogwai`s love of Slint.Mogwai was playing a show with Aerial M,Dave Pajo`s band;Pajo spilled some beer on one of Mogwai guys guitars and one of them said"that`s ok,you were in Slint, you can do whatever you want!"All of J`s tunes are great and I don`t skip any of them.Same goes for Husker Du.
