I feel sort of ambivalent about Hand It Over. I mean, I think "Alone" is, hands down, the best song ever. By anyone. Ever. But there’s a lot of mediocre stuff on there. Sounds to me like J was sort of experimenting on this one. Some things worked, some didn’t.
But, on topic, Dinosaur is brilliant. Indeed, Repulsion (ok, now I’m not sure; maybe this is the best song ever) Severed Lips, some of the greatest songs, meaning not just guitar-player-God wise, he’s ever written. I once played Repulsion to a friend (guitar player in my band) and he said: "what is that?" I said, "Dino". He said, "let’s do a cover of that one."
(and, off topic, yeah, I haven’t been in here in ages. I couldn’t find the reply button at first, that says it all. But I -and I know this is blasphemy for a Freakscener; not listening to Dino for a while- rediscovered Dino again. And it’s beautiful. It’s everything you could ever hope for. "Get Me" bringing you to tears again.
Oh, and I take English classes. Do you notice, do you?)
Love, Olaf
P.s. I read the title of this topic and was immediately singing: "…who feels ashamed" Thanks, brightened up my day.
I just came home and posting this message is the second thing I did after masturbating to a picture of J. Did you see his outfit tonight he looked so yummy and when he was hitting those high notes you could have a peep at his bellybutton, ow my god!
I’m sorry, I’ve got some really insane friends. Get outta control when they log on to Freakscene.
But they liked Dino though. J was great, as usual. Even better than in Groningen. Was right in the middle of the pit. I have a bruise on my cheekbone and on my nose, but it’s worth it.You probably were the youngest person at the show, I’m 21 though, and going completely insane, did feel young…
Love from Amsterdam, amazing how Dino can pick up my mood
This’ll probably make you miss him more, but here you go:

June 8, 2005 at 4:34 am in reply to: So hopefully someone will tape the Gronigan show tonight and #109949Got an email back from Vera; apparantly a lot of the European shows are being taped by ‘friends’ of the band. Anybody here know more about that? Hope it shows up here or on FreesoFree, anyway.
June 7, 2005 at 1:05 pm in reply to: So hopefully someone will tape the Gronigan show tonight and #109947oh yeah, in the mean time check out the pics of Lou’s performance at Vera a week and a half ago!
June 7, 2005 at 1:04 pm in reply to: So hopefully someone will tape the Gronigan show tonight and #109946It was amazing, I can not believe how good it was. J was in top form, Murph is a much better drummer than I’d expected and Lou is as good a bass player as he is a songwriter. This show really had me see how much Lou and Murph were a part of Dinosaur, it wasn’t just J’s songwriting that was so good.
Also, this was the first show I ever saw with earplugs and I liked it, great sound, no ringing ears. There were lots of cameras recording the show and at least two photographers. The pics should be up at http://www.vera-groningen.nl pretty soon. I will let you know as soon as I see it. The guy recording right next to me (I was in the front row, naturally) was American, I think, so he may have been with the band. I will email Vera to confirm that.
I got a setlist as well (J’s
) This show should have me happy for at least a week I would say, which is good, because that’s exactly when I’ll be seeing them again, next Tuesday in Amsterdam
There’s always a chance of getting in if you just show up; they’ll be selling the tickets that were reserved -but not picked up- in the last half hour before the show starts. There won’t be many, because you’d have to be pretty stupid to make a reservation for Dino and then not go, but there is a slim chance, I guess…
You probably already know this, but there’s a show in Amsterdam on the 14th, not sold out yet. So I don’t know when you will be leaving the Netherlands.
Hope to see you at the show in Groningen, short guy, long hair, probably be wearing my white J + the Fog t-shirt.
Olaf
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES, YES, YES, J, LOU,MURPH, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!!!!
I DONT KNOW WHAT MORE TO SAY, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU.the world is a wonderful place
,kisses and hugs for everyone,
Olaf
P.s. does anybody have one of their phonenumbers, in case they need a place to stay? (this offer is open to other freaksceners as well, of course)
Woohoo, that’s a great reason to listen to Dinosaur and J ALL DAY LONG!!!!!
Happy birthday!
what do you all think of Bulbs of Passion being the first song on Dinosaur? I really like Forget the Swan as an opener. I thought it was so cool to start your debutalbum with just drums! A bold move, imho, and it really works well.
Uhm, who are "the Fog" these days?
If O’Reilly is who I think he is, I saw a documentary on him last night. God, how do you live in a country that has something like Fox "News"? It’s outrageous! I won’t make any judgement about his private live, but his work is unbelieveble. Just seven seconds of hearing what he had to say made me want to punch him in the face. He actually told his guests to ‘shut up’. How, what, why, who, where, how, how, how?!!!!! How is that possible, is everything on Fox like this?
Oh, and what will happen to O’Reilly now? Apology accepted?
Olaf – even further away from understanding the UsA
I don’t think I’ve seen enough shows to really say anything about it, but I’d like to say this: To me, it doesn’t seem "fair" to compare Martin+Me to the acoustic stuff J’s done recently. Because M+M was released as an album I think J or somebody else has done some production work, making it sound way better than the acoustic shows we, as fans, have recorded ourselves. Seeing that he released the Martin+Me concert (or concertS, is it actually one single show?), he must have been very happy about the songs himself as well. So it’s impossible to see Martin+Me as the average show at that time. Some of the recent shows might seem routine, but some shows in the M+M era might have sounded routine as well, it seems to me we just don’t know.
One more thing, the acoustic songs on the John Peel sessions cd are excellent. I find myself enjoying the second part of the album more than the first.
Olaf
