Great for DC but when are they going to play Richmond? they’ve done DC how many times now? Alley Katz was good enough for J + The Fog so I don’t see what the big deal is. I’ll buy all the tickets they’re worried about not selling if that’s what it is.
Sorry I didn’t see this sooner:
It’s 8.98 there. Also has streaming tracks.
all that matters is they played the wagon. also they did a four song encore (i think), which seemed pretty generous. the crowd was really into it, more so than the last time they were here. dead meadow was great. drove up from richmond for 2 hours after deciding to go at the last minute and was kind of regretting the fact that it was $40 and they were just going to play the same 15 or so songs they’ve been playing, but once I got there I realized how stupid it was to think like that. first saw J + Fog in dc about 5 years ago to the day and just realizing the book end aspect of seeing that show and getting into it and then seeing them reformed here was just really heavy.
pulling them out at the best parts of each song for like a minute worked pretty well for me last night. after having them in for the first couple of songs I pulled them out for the wagon and it’s like being on top of a mountain and the wind trying to push you off.
September 20, 2005 at 7:18 am in reply to: J. Mascis and Friends sing and Chant for AMma album #110985Not sure if this has been posted yet (sorry if it has) but there’s a review on all music guide. they gave it 4.5 stars.
Review by Jason Ankeny
A collection of devotional songs dedicated to Amma, the living Indian saint Sri Mata Arritanandarrayi Devi, this self-released disc represents the most beautiful and nakedly emotional music J Mascis has ever created–though favoring acoustic guitars and simple, circular melodies, it’s as powerful as anything ever wrought by Dinosaur Jr, with the crucial difference that it soothes the soul instead of warping the brain. While Mascis’ quavering voice always articulated the emotional turmoil his splatterpunk lyrics once conspicuously avoided, here he confronts his spiritual conflicts with poignant honesty, contemplating confusion, isolation and loss in unflinching detail–when he finally plugs in his guitar for the closing "Heavy Metal Ai Girl Nandini," a blistering reintepretation of a Sanskrit hymn some 1300 years old, the catharsis is monumental.
Here http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/artist/artist_info.asp?id=136″>http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/artis … asp?id=136
it lists the band members at the bottom and under drums says "TBC." Does that mean that Murph isn’t onboard? Does this festival site just not have it right?

Set Us Free

No problem. Just want to see the show I was lucky enough to see on DVD

I have some cool pictures of J with a flutist that I haven’t seen around here yet, but the scanner is broken.

March 11, 2004 at 2:17 pm in reply to: Northampton, MA on April 30 (J, Sonic Youth, Sebadoh + more) #99249That is the awesomest ticket I’ve ever seen. God I hope I can go.
March 4, 2004 at 7:41 pm in reply to: Northampton, MA on April 30 (J, Sonic Youth, Sebadoh + more) #99242So I bought a ticket, even though I live in Virginia and I’m supposed to be in school on Friday. I could skip school (I’m a senior, so yeah whatever), take a train up in the morning to Springfield, then take a bus to Northampton, go the show, and leave the next morning. We’ll see if the parents are ok with that.
All I know is that if this turns into a Dinosaur Jr reunion and I didn’t at least try to be there I’ll never forgive myself.I just got a copy of YLAOM without the Jr, and it’s probably the coolest thing ever. It’s priceless. I paid 14.77 for it, so the seller totally got ripped off.
Where did you hear that rumor, Bob?
