Hmmm… I borrowed the Blu Ray from Lovefilm and I *did* have some playback problems, but put that down to the very old PS3 I was playing it on (which I rarely use for Blu Ray, hence no idea whether it’s generally reliable). Perhaps that disc was also dodgy.
Here we are. Awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxC1ylolY4I
Cool. I have this on a VHS tape somewhere, but it had deteriorated compared to the quality here.
That said, I can’t really say I enjoy watching it; Makes me feel slightly uneasy. I’d love to hear what J would say if made to watch that back now.
The 1997 Jenny Jones stuff is my favourite of the uncomfortable TV appearances. It amuses me (and probably J too) that most of the clowns in the audience probably turned up with their tickets to watch the show filming, not bargaining for the fact they’d leave with their ears bleeding.
I’ve got it and it’s awesome. In my opinion, it’s the closest anyone has come to capturing the live atmosphere. The video footage varies from crisp HD down to low frame rate fuzz, generally hand-held and a bit shaky, changing dramatically as it cuts from one view to another. In a good way though; It reinforces the idea that it’s made “by the fans, for the fans”. Some go for wide shots and others give us extreme close-ups good enough to work out the fingering of riffs or freeze-frame and take stock of J’s latest pedal purchases. The sound is excellent throughout. Performance-wise, they are really on the ball; Just the right point between giving a close replica of the original album and making it sound alive, natural and laid back.
I borrowed both the BluRay and DVD from Lovefilm to work out whether it was worth buying the BluRay, and I’d say it is. Some parts you’ll see no difference, but there are moments of awesome clarity where the BD pays off.
As has been said above, this is an entirely different beast to the Middle East. That had one play and left me disappointed. I’ve had this one a matter of days and it has already had multiple viewings.

As long as Marq Spusta does the artwork, they can call it whatever they like, IMHO.
I’ve got an MP3 of the techno version you mention, jeremiah. It’s by ‘Warping Allergen’.
Wow! That was brilliant. I barely blinked through the whole performance. Excellent audio/video and it’s nice to hear the natural acoustic tone of that guitar.

I’ve not been able to see him (unfortunately), but the looper on the live recordings sounds like the Z-Vex Lo-Fi Loop Junkie. It has a deliberate lo-fi sound and adds a slight modulation effect.
That sounds great! It’s also nice to hear Not The Same.
Stream on spin.com, you say? Whoa! I missed that. Will listen now… Oh, and welcome back!
Serves me right always going straight to ‘/forum’. I’ve seen the annoncement on the home page now. After a couple of listens, I’m liking the three tracks I’d already heard best – although that might just be because I’ve heard them at least 30 times each and they’re very familiar. #2, Several Shades of Why is still my favorite.

It inspired me to pick up the guitar for the first time in a while. http://freakscene.net/forums/discussion/comment/131401#Comment_131401

That link didn’t work for me, but I found it here:

As for the tattoo… Speechless!
Given that they’re doing most of the O2 Academy venues, I wonder whether they’ll announce a date at the O2 Academy Bristol (?) It wouldn’t be the first time extra dates have appeared in the schedule after the initial announcement.
Simon.
The magazine has been out since Thursday (possibly earlier) in the UK and I’ve now heard it. Unmistakably Syd. Unmistakably J. If you like both, you’re in for a treat…
