Billboard has that kind of info for top 200 albums chart and I know Beyond appeared in the top 200 album chart when it first came out. I would imagine the album has sold about 100000 copies or so. It has a chance to keep increasing steadily with the touring and their growing popularity. They are getting sponsorship too which could send them flying in popularity. All it takes is one song or commercial. A lot of bands are making money off putting their songs in commercials and rejuvinating their popularity. I used to cry sellout but the more I hear it, the more I see that hey why not. A band should try to be successful without sacrificing their sound.
"JustinStarbuck " wrote:in the booklet of dinosaur it mentions Lou n Murph playing a casio. what song(s) have that in it?I believe it’s on the original YLAOM track of Frampton’s Show Me the Way at the end of the song and also on Poledo on that same album.
I wish I could see Dinosaur Jr at the 40 Watt. I’ve seen a lot of shows there many years ago when I lived there in the 90’s. That venue is the perfect size to see a band esp. one as loud as Dinosaur. How is Kevin Sweeney these days? I haven’t talked to him in years.
I like all of Dinosaur Jr.’s albums but Bug just is the best of them all. Hopefully they’ll start playing more tunes they don’t currently play live. Like Water, Let it Ride, Pond Song, They always Come, Don’t, Start Choppin, Puke and Cry, etc. It will take a while for that to happen I know but hopefully they be inspired to keep playing.
"trensidoh " wrote:It depends. Usually bands "hire" a drumkit for tours. I’ve seen Murph use various drumsets over the past. I think the drums he plays at home (which are HIS drums, I guess) are the red Gretsch-kit (with the scratched high-tom), the same gear he used back in the 80s that J found on ebay before the reunion started. The kick-drum is a different & bigger one than back in the day. It has either a Gretsch-logo or a Ludwig-logo on the front skin, but I believe it’s always the same basic (Gretsch) drum. For the reunion, I’ve seen Murph use at least 6 different kits (they played Europe 3 times in 2005, the first leg of the tour had Murph playing the original Dinosaur Gretsch kit, the second was a green-looking set, the third had a maple finish or something), in Japan/Australia 2006 he played another different kit (also with a maple-looking finish), for the spring 2006 US tour I’ve seen pix where he plays a clear "see-through" kit (I heard that J has/had one ?), and a 6th kit (black with a white-sparkle ring on the drums) for the spring 2006 European tour. I think he ALWAYS uses Paiste 2002 cymbals. They sound amazing ! But are quite expensive. What set was the yellow double bass drum set I saw Murph use at the 9:30 Club Feb 20, 1989? I also looked and looked for a recording of that show but it might be a lost treasure. There was a guy filming the show that night.
J is every bit as good guitarist as you want him to be. Hell, I hear some new texture of sound and learn something, hear something new everytime I listen to his stuff especially the new album. Great wall of sound and songwriting.
There’s always someone who’s better, stronger, faster around the corner but they can’t take away how good of a songwriter you are. J has that special ability to write great beer drinking, partyingmusic, that rocks big time.
75 minutes has been the standard but they need to play a little longer now that they’ve been together again for a while. Maybe they’ll bump up their shows to 85 minutes for the new tour.
I went online and ordered Beyond and the Live at the Middle East DVD. It seems very available online.

It’s a very loud recording so I blast it at deafening volumes.

This album is really growing on me! I’m so glad Dinosaur Jr. is back together again!
53% too!
I like the review and the analysis of Dinosaur Jr.’s playing. To this day, I never get bored with their various lives shows on Free so Free. Every show is different and listening to what is played between songs often has a hook too. Very original band and I can’t wait until I see them live again this year!

I heard the name Dinosaur Jr, maybe when I was about 12, and then one night on the radio in Buffalo, NY, there was a D Jr special. This was the first time I had heard any this bands songs. I remember "Show Me the Way" (Frampton remake), "Green Mind," "So What Else Is New," and "Feel the Pain." To say that J Mascis has changed my life is an understatement. It’s safe for me to say that Dinosaur Jr and J Mascis & the Fog are *THE* greatest two bands of all time, and anyone I know who doesn’t like D Jr or the Fog is not entitled to their own opinion! LOL.
I’m a guitarist. Mostly play rythym and a lot of accoustic these days. J has been the biggest influence on me, but I’ve played guitar since I was 12, so when I first heard Dinosaur Jr, I was shocked to hear a band that actually played melodies/chords that I like. "Whatever’s Cool With Me" is a classic example of the kind of melody I love so much.
Well, I don’t live in NY anymore. I live in Arizona. Phoenix area, and would love to meet other guitarists who are into J and Dinosaur Jr. Nice to be here.
Jake
I live in the Phoenix AZ area and I’m a drummer. It’s cool to hear of someone in Phx that’s into Dinosaur Jr. I saw them the first time in 1989 at the 9:30 Club In DC. I’ve seen them 5 times since then, the most recent being in Vegas 2005. My 2 favorite CDs are live at the Carling Academy and the new one live from Boston Nov 06. I hope they come to Phoenix on their new tour.
