Maybe on tour they can find some quality to work with in a short period. Sometimes a band will kind of just stumble upon a song and it’s a hit. Then all of the sudden there are 2 or 3 songs and one that’s played on tour as a preview for what’s to come on the new album. This is easily the most anticipated album of the year.
December 15, 2005 at 11:53 am in reply to: Dinosaur Jr Concert A Blast-Pittsburgh Post Gazette Dec 3 ‘0 #113455I do agree that some of the songs have slowed down. I have seen them when their tempos were played very fast although I went to one eighties show and there was both slow and fast dynamics. They’ve always been fun!
November 17, 2005 at 4:11 pm in reply to: Predictions for the last Dinosaur Jr show in Cambridge #113022It seems like their history as a band was kind of short as it was in the 80’s and now it seems like they’re just getting started. It would cool if they decided to keep their respective other bands together as well as Dinosaur Jr. Then they could tour every now and then and even expand their songs they play live.
August 25, 2005 at 10:09 am in reply to: Famously fractious Dino Jr returns with a bang-Las Vegas Sun #112244I was at that show and it wasn’t as loud as he says it was but it was good. The songs from the 1st album sounded cool. It was too short IMO at 70 minutes. I was glad to see them and hope they keep touring so I can see them again.
Bug is my favorite and close second is YLAOM.
All my favorite songs by them they hardly play but maybe this is a sign they want to keep touring and with practicing Lose maybe they’ve realized they should play all of their songs. I like all their songs but the rare ones are a treat.
It depends on the venue. HOB in Vegas didn’t have it loud enough! I like hearing them loud. The loudest I saw them was at the 9:30 Club in ’89 and Masquerade in Atlanta ’92. Out of the 6 times I’ve seen them only LalaPalooza in ’93 was tamer than the HOB Vegas. They still sounded good though.
Where can you find the Vegas recording?
The Omans and Alaska opened in Las Vegas. The Omens were an interesting band. Alaska sounded a little like Sonic Youth but not nearly as good. Alaska were a little boring. A member of the Omens got carted off by security at the end of Dinosaur Jr’s set for spitting on someone. It happened real fast and they had him out of there very fast. Lou introduced the whole band onstage and Murph stood up. Vegas was going nuts for more and the band appreciated it. Too bad it was a short set. Hopefully after August, they’ll tour some more and come to Phoenix, AZ.

ChunksThey were sick from the long trip from Norway but Lou was fairly talkative on stage. He said J was real sick. J seemed really drained. I enjoyed the show even though I was disappointed that it only about 75 or 80 minutes. Songs from their 1st record were the highlight since I had never heard some of them in the 5 times I’ve seen them.
It’s at HOB. How easy is it to get an autograph at sound check at a place like HOB? I was going to go at 1 PM or so.
It sounds like an uneventful, mellow show should be considered good depending how one looks at it. The Phili show from a music perspective sounded like it was a cool show.
Hopefully during the break betw. shows they’ll decide on doing more of bug. I did see WCWM in Feb. ’92 in Atlanta along with They always come, Pond Song, and Let it Ride during one show. I had never seen them do those selections until that night and not since. I’m hoping the Vegas HOB show will have some of those rare tunes in the set. It must have something to do with them getting used to playing those songs again.
It’s the end product delivered to the audience that matters and J has that covered being as good as he is. I saw him and Dinosaur Jr. in ’89 at the 9:30 Club in DC and he didn’t say anything and his hair was in his eyes a lot of the time. I was converted after that. In ’91 in Atlanta at the Cotton Club he was totally different. He said hello to the audience and thanked them several times and smiled a few times. In ’92 I saw them in Atlanta at the Masquerade for the Whatever’s cool With Me tour and they were super good that night. J had a couple of white marshall cabinets I had never seen him use before. They played Let it Ride, They always come, and Pond song which were tunes I had never heard them do live. I think they might have done Don’t when I saw them in 1989. I’ve seen them 5 times in concert and they’ve never said much but the 1991 show was the happiest I hd ever seen J at a concert.
