All those Cure re-issuesIt really is an incredible film. I watched it and felt energised!!!
Makes one wanna form a band and jump in a van (again).
J’s line is hilarious!
It could of been twice as long – just digging the footage etc so much.
Ah happy days
Cool thread
Here’s my stuff:Guitar wise:
1966 Fender Jazzmaster (bought 6 months ago ? it?s beautiful, saved up for months for this baby, black refin with white scratchguard and bound neck/pearl inlay bits ? I?m gonna get it refined BACK to Sunburst, got a nice tortoiseshell scratchguard to go on it etc…)
1992 Fender Squire Telecaster ? first guitar. Surprisingly good cheap guitar! Doesn’t stay in tune – but easy to play.
New Tangelwood Dreadnought acoustic. For those 6 Organs/Bert Jansch moments
Nice guitar – hooked it up with a pick up.Pedals:
Univox Superfuzz (orange and blue 70s version – incredible pedal!!! – sounds like a bomb going off!!!)
Electro Harmonix MOGWAI Big Muff (1 of 50 made for the band Mogwai by those lovely EH folks IN New York – V RARE promotional item made to celebrate the release of their ?Rock Action? album ? this is basically a Big Muff with all the scripts changed? I will hopefully one day sell this for a lot of money – or just hang onto it and pass it on my grandchildren – not bad really)
Russian Zovtek Big Muff (big green tank of a pedal!)
Electro Harmonix Small Stone phazer (hence my name…
Electro Hamonix Electric Mistress flanger
Electro Harmonix Smal Clone
Line 6 Echo Park – delay pedal
Jim Dunlop Wah Wah
Danelectro Tremelo (someones borrowed this…gave it back buggered!)
Danelectro French Toast (a distortion/octave pedal – the fuzz is good a bit like a trebly Superfuzz, the octave switch is rubbish!)
All this goes through a Fender Blues Junior amp I picked up on Eay a few months ago for ?200! Bargain!
+ Mapex drum set. I’m a really terrible guitarist – I should stick to playing drums!!!!I was walking through the Lanes area of Brighton (UK) recently. Down the small cobbled lane thats
Kensington Gardens there is an Art Gallery/Shop. They were having a small exhibition and sale of Joe Szabos work. Hanging in the window was a HUGE print of ‘Priscilla’. I popped in and had a chat with the galleries owner and asked how much the print was. If I remember correctly the price tag was over £1000…..!! AMAZING image though. Didn’t Sonic Youth (or Kim in particular) suggest the image as an album cover to J/the band? Due to the girl looking a bit like J? I seem to remember hearing/reading that story somewhere. I had the T-shirt too… I still do actually but it’s WAY too small for me how and full of holes. Wish I could get a new one.
The dude who owned the gallery told me that he had never heard of Dinosaur Jr before his Szabo exhibition, but said that a lot of people had been in to compliment him on having the Green Mind cover in the window!!I stand corrected!

Thanks for the heads up! I will check that out! Here’s my top 4!
1. Getting on the guestlist along with 5 mates at a sold out show May 1989 in Portsmouth (UK) after meeting Lou and Murph outside the venue. Above and beyond the call of duty on their part!! Great show too! Lunachicks supporting. Ah happy days

2. Forum shows last year. 16 years on. Original line up. Just as good if not better than in 1989!!!
3. Main stage. Reading Fesitval. 1991. That was the Year Punk Broke. That Was. What an afternoon!!
4. Seeing them on the Word one night back in (er..whenever it was!!) doing ‘Get Me'(the Word was a terrible late night Friday post the pubs Yoof TV show – really bad – but they had good musical guests – sometimes!!). Like a BOMB going off on TV!! Mascis just tearing into this Les Paul Gold Top (has anyone got the footage of this? – if so stick it up on You Tube now!) whilst an unamed lady drummer rocked it!! Anyone know who that lady drummer was? She was thumping those tubs!So yup the issue IS clearance and in particular as feared the Nirvana minefield.
My contact says they (meaning US Universal special projects/ops or back cat or whatever!) are well aware of the film and that it is ready to roll (with extras!).
The word is it WILL come out… at some point.
I reckon once Ms Love has sold her share of the rights to the Cobain estate we’ll get deluged with Nirvana stuff, including 1991: TYPB.
I for one cannot wait.
Dino Jr doing Frek Scene… wow
I’ll keep y’all in the loop!! If I hear anything more!Er… replying to myself – sorry!
Word from my man at Univeral – ‘it’s being looked into’……..so…. more news when I have it
Ok I mailed him – then got an instant ‘I’m not in the office’ bounceback mail. So guess I won’t hear ‘owt ’till next week.
I’ll let ya know what he thinks/says!
WOW!
Was only talking about this yesterday with some friends!
I know someone sort of high up in re-issues and special projects at Universal in the UK and I am gonna mail him today to a). draw his attention to this fantastic MySpace site and b) say ‘come on man get involved!’.
I have for years thought I am in the film (shot of the back of my head as Babes In Toyland played at Reading…). VERY long red (ok ginger
hair. Ha ha ha. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking!!!
I can honestly say that the day that Babes, Dino Jr, Nirvana and Sonic Youth played at Reading was one of the greatets days of my life. Well in the top 10 anyway
The thing is the film actually does kinda capture how GOOD, how AMAZING! that day was. Sorry to blather on.
I’ll let y’all know what the response is (if any) from me man at Universal. If they don’t wanna do it Dave Markley should license it back from them and go to Plexi Film. They do all the great DVDs like Wilco film, Renaldos Drift project and the forthcoming Minutemen doc.
I’ve always thought the problem with getting a re-issue out was getting clearance and oks from all the different artists and labels involved.
But hey! Bring it on!!I have a 1966 Jazzmaster. Got it last year for about £900 – which was by all accounts not a bad price. It’s been refined somewhere along the line and looks like the black and white one (with the pearl inlays) posted by zhviago. Nice guitars man!
My headstock is not black though. 1966 was the year I think they changed to those pearl inlays. Love to know what my guitars colour was originally… dude in the shop couldn’t tell.
I’ve just got hold of a tortoise shell scratchguard as I may refin it again to sunburst.
Re: the bridge… the dude who sold it to me advised me to string up with 11s or 13s – nothing lower. Thicker strings and all that… but still they slip about. Could be that the bridge is just knackered!
It’s a bit of a pain but I’m such a bad guitarist I’m not gonna be ‘playing out’ as it were. This is to just noodle around with at home and maybe do some recording with….if I ever finish writing a song!Totally got the guitar because of J… and a little bit of Kevin Shields/Nels Cline. Decided after the Forum re-union shows last year that I had to have one. I’ve coveted having one for 15 + years! Saved up for 4/5 months….They are kinda tough to play, or at least I find them that way, but I have tiny wee hands:) Sort of makes me play better (I kid myself). Pop it thru a wee Fender Blues Junior and stomp on 2 x Big Muffs, a lovely old orange and blue Univox Superfuzz, a Smallstone, a Smallclone, an Electric Mistress and a wah.
January 31, 2006 at 8:54 am in reply to: Witch signs to Tee Pee Records and more shows to come…. #112766Ok – I look like a numpty for replying to my own mails – but what the heck!! I’m playing the Witch album now for about the 5th time in a day but its SO GOOD!!!
Track 1 Seer is like 8 minutes of slow grooving sludge!! This album has got quite a Deep Purple vibe to it – but it’s darker….. kinda Sabbathy as you’d expect. Kyles (is it Kyle) vocals are great – kinda high pitched and grooovy. Some great production – phased drums in Soul Of Fire the single, great guitar. Mascis can really thump the tubs!! I think as someone has written – these riffs are SICK! Ha ha ha!
Black Saint is my fave track at the moment!January 30, 2006 at 6:02 am in reply to: Witch signs to Tee Pee Records and more shows to come…. #112765Er I’m listening to a promo of the album now… Track 1 ‘Seer’.
It’s……. AMAZING!!!!
Oohh Mascis on drums!!!
