In the early video I have from 88 I am pretty sure it might even be just big muff, wah and his guitars tremolo, and maybe clone theory for the lung.
Back then I think J only had a wah, big muff, clone theory, electric misstress( I know its on bug but I’m not sure about YLAOM), and maybe a memory man. He later added a blue box and the superfuzzes and then more and more as time went on. Currently he is back to the original setup pretty much after the fire.
They should make a Fender J. Mascis Jazzmaster maybe with an esquire neck and a gibson tune o matic bridge in purple with matching headstock.
I believe I have heard him use both before but I am not sure. I have a clone theory and I would agree he now uses the cae tremolo instead. He uses that on a lot of songs but he has been for a while. I think he stopped using it though before the fire.
Well I know he has the purple plexi, the fender jazz bass and a jtm-800. His electro harmonix pedals and a few rack effects, a fuzz probe, 3 or 4 jazzmasters a mesa and fender bandmaster. I think he lost the clear drum set, lots of recording stuff, a bunch of big muffs and other pedals, some guitars, not sure what other amps, been wondering about the white plexi and lovetone pedals and the esquire. Oh and what about the gibson humming bird, dove and martins?
What about J. I probably like J’s bass playing on More Light and Free So Free more than any of them but he can’t play with himself live.
I bought them the double fists of beer at Maxwell’s and the Mesa is the amp he used after the Marshall blew..
I had a weird experience myself. I was taking a friend of mine that works at a local bar. Well I decided to meet her there and it was strange because Just Like Heaven came on as soon as she walked in the bar. The Cure version though. Then she kept me waiting for a couple of hours and I thought I might miss some. She likes some old Dino but doesn’t know much new stuff. Anyway I requested a couple Dino songs on the internet based juke box at the bar and they got two songs. One was Alone and the other I Don’t Think So. So anyway last week she was having a bad night and I played alone and she said that it was exactly how she felt. So anyway we took a cab there and got lost. When we got there I went in and J wasn’t on but my friends who were outside said the cab I came in on just crashed into another car. Phew, thank god we weren’t in it. Anyway we got a drink and then went out for a smoke and what do they start with but Alone. Very interesting. And what did they finish the show with but Just Like Heaven. That wasn’t that odd though because I requested it and he has played everytime. Now that I think about it I should have asked for Get Me. Anyway my friend talked to George and we were on the guest list for Philly but I was too shot to go and I was afraid I might see my ex girlfriend there and it would have been too much. I have seen J I think 9 times this year from LA to NYC and I will get to see him again in May. Its a shame that the Fog can’t just open for Cobra Verde at least for the NYC show. Anyway it was a good show but a bit stange overall.
Oh I didn’t see the top. I have jayloumurph, only internet stuff. Has he looked at freesofree.net. Also what about buying merch online, how is that going?
Great I get to see j twice this weekend and then in May. That will be like the ninth time this year.
Go to a store and try them. Buy the one you like. J uses a fuzz probe not the wah probe. Teese wah’s are the best I know but try others its up to you, you are creating your sound.
