I’ve never been able to put my finger on exactly what it is about ‘Water’ that "get’s me" (heh, heh) but I agree that the flow of the lyrics is just amazing. I also just love the not-so-hidden symbolism of the water over-taking a loved one. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what J’s writing about but I think it’s a really creative way of getting the point accross.
‘Mind Glow’ is great as well. I consider it one of J’s best mellow songs.

That’s right! I’m foolish. Gotta love the Edit button.

bugs have feelers just like meThis is what it says?! I’ve always thought it was,
"Love the catepillars muching on the leaves,
Pitter-patter makes me forget my disease."Also, those lyrics are from Quest, not Mountain Man.
Anyway, best Dino lyrics in my opinion is the song ‘Water’, the whole song is genius.
I love the production on Where You Been, it’s one of the things that makes this my favorite album. I think the ordering of the songs on WYB is amazing as well. ‘Out There’ is probably the perfect opening song and ‘Start Chopin” is the perfect second song. My only (minor) complaint is ‘Drawerings’ following ‘Get Me’ because those songs have a very similar feel to them.
I also agree that there isn’t a bad song on the album but I would say that about all of Dinosaur Jr’s albums I think.

I’d have to go with Wilco – ‘A Ghost is Born’ and Old 97s – ‘Drag it Up’. Both are good but I think these bands can do better.
Also disappointing was no new music from J.
I work for a marketing research company in Indianapolis. I like the work ok but never shake that feeling that I’m not really contributing much to the world by sitting at my desk looking at percentages and statistical differences.
The nice thing is I can pretty much get on the internet whenever I want so I get to check message boards frequently.

I’m really late on this one but I always thought the song went, "No way to collapse the Lung; Breathes down in everyone." I figured it had some spiritual meaning behind it or just some catchy, feel-good words to jam to.
Thanks for posting that. It’s really interesting. Especially encouraging to hear Lou talk about J so positively.
I quietly have my hopes really high that the old band will get back together for a reunion show or two after the reissues are released.

If it’s been posted previously, I apologize.
Dinosaur Jr. Reissues on Merge!!
On March 22nd, 2005 Merge records will reissue the legendary Dinosaur Jr. CDs – Dinosaur,
You’re Living All Over Me, and Bug.(Chapel Hill, NC) It’s hard to believe, but it was 20 years ago when Dinosaur first roamed the back roads and byways of central Massachusetts. J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph formed their band in 1984 in the sleepy college town of Amherst, MA, and went on to change the face of rock forever…whether they actually ever intended to or not.
Long before the folks in Seattle were raiding thrift stores for flannel, Dinosaur Jr. laid the groundwork for a seismic shift in the underground rock scene. These first three albums, with their sonic wall of melodic bass, furious drums and stunning guitar wizardry, coupled with an almost laissez faire vocal delivery, became the sonic blueprint for what would become known as “alternative rockâ€
I saw that too. It’s true. It was 1993 and I believe he was listed as one of the "most irriesistable gungers of ’93" or something like that. He was third behind Evan Dando and someone else. Pretty cool.

Doesn’t seem to vary as much musically but I think song-by-song it’s a little better. No songs in falsetto though <img> My favorites after the first couple of listens are If That’s How it’s Gotta Be, Outside and Everybody Lets Me Down.
