Loved reading your post this morning…yes…I’m sure J’s whole gimmick is just an act…. because each one of us has our very on "act" that we engage in each day. I read a wonderful book many years ago called "The Master Game" by Robert De Ropp…the info in that book stayed with me all these years (I was about 20 when I read it) and I share tid-bits with my kids all the time.
His basic premise was…
essentially life is a series of "games," or "acts", it’s really a matter of which one you want to play.
By "game," he does not mean anything unimportant, trivial, or not serious; as he states, "having found your game, play it with intensity – play as if your life and sanity depended on it. (because they do)."I am currently playing the "Mommy who is raising a big family in a small Southern college town, using each days activities as teachable moments… while doing the urban homesteading sort of thing…trying my best to be guided by Matthew 6:33 ….seek God first…then after you do that…the rest of the crap just seems to fall into the correct place"
So my Gimmick is the Spiritual/Homesteading/Montessori/Mama….but it is just an act that I’ve gotten sort of good at it over the years…..undiluted awesomeness with clothes on….espejito…espejito…dime (dee-may) "mirror, mirror…tell me"
Cristiano Ronaldo first is upset because he has overplucked his eyebrows and then talks to his magic mirror.
Since we don’t have a TV, youtube is my secret brain drain. This one had me ROFLMAO!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVa6qXmJoRY pVa6qXmJoRY
I missed Hybridge’s reply…so I’m glad the thread was brought back up.
I’m not familiar with Raul Ruiz (I was curious enough to google) …but I agree with him.Geminis son amantes de la lengua. Me encanta flotar en Ingles y en Espanol!
back on topic…A new J solo albumin the works?
I read somewhere..but I can’t remember where….following a link from something Dead Confederate related…that John Agnello was headed off to Amherst for a few days (of work?) that was near the end of June. I decided in my head that this was for a J Mascis solo something. Perhaps the trip to Amherst was not recording related but just for Mr. Agnello to have some fun, like pot-lucking with J Mascis and family and visiting the Emily Dickinson Museum (speaking of flotaring in Ingles)…who knows. An astrological side note…J Mascis and Emily Dickinson were both born on the same day! One of them seems to have discovered that, although surrounded by people, solitude was available through isolated jitney runs…into their own little world….which thankfully, appears to have been a storage unit for a treasure chest full of stuff. The date for the show in Carrboro, NC is
10.22.10bummer that this is an Atlanta kind of tour thing and not Athens but "hands in the air" for getting a Saturday night show!
Wow…if Tubby says so, it’s probably so..he even used the F word…he’s so serious!!!! WOW..I’m really surprised to hear you have such a glowing review Tub…I’ve only heard that video below…naw, come to think of it, there was something else a few months ago, I heard, I think. (??) ….INTERESTING. I’ll have to start paying more attention.
*3/4, half-assed…OMG Tubby…(I added the half)that’s going to me my new slogan for the way some people around me operate.
you can use it in a sentence like this…."Hey, don’t take the time to do it correctly just do it 3/4 half assed, like usual, that should work."
had to edit…I forgot…I’ve been vibing on trying to be more uplifting…..so I wouldn’t say it like that…that’s sort of snotty and mean…ummm, I’m going to rephrase it to "3/4 half assed is a pretty good effort but if you give it your all you can make it whole-assed divine. "
I feel better…God caught me and reminded me of what I"ve been asking God to catch and remind me about! (LOL/but true) It’s an hourly process sometimes pulling myself back to God.
Thanks, King Tubby.Grand Wizard=funny choice of words for Southern band with Confederate in the name.
Bless his heart it wasn’t intentional I’m sure!or for fun in haiku
A Southern boy wins
becoming a grand wizard
suggests a faux pasI so wanted to put a haiku here if you don’t mind…I think it’s relevant…
A kick in the chest

Spain wins by virtue!UH-OH, Did I say something I shouldn’t have?

Stefan Williams, a 15 year old friend of the family with a German Mama just came to our house and said the best line of the night…..he walked in and shouted "DAMN OCTOPUS"

tears are falling…We have a kid in Spain right now…Can you believe it! What a great time to be in Spain.
Lots of dancing and hugging going on in our living room right now.
Hey Everyone…I just wanted to let you know the film I posted about here (zombie comedy) has finally been released…How long ago was this shot? The one in which my daughter had a "fit" because she was hot and then I dreamed of the same Sheriff who helped me when she was having her "fit" pulling J Mascis out of a car.
Here is a link to the trailer….it’s had pretty good reviews which I think is a miracle because well just because. I have yet to see it but I’ve been told my daughter Tiger Liliana has a few good moments and a close up!

I’ve been feeling a little down and just today…I was thinking what would really pick me up…then I remembered HJfreaks….gosh…I love this guy and thanks to the internet I can have him in my life when I want. HJ is the kind of guy I would like to have as a renter, his bed is always made…takes care of his clothes and can play his bass guitar.
My favorite song right now (but that changes all the time with him)

Wow…I enjoyed those video’s….last night, around 10:30 it was hot…almost 100 yesterday and I had been up since 5:30 AM…took the kids swimming..so I was exhausted…and I came home and watched the video’s and thought…Wow, that sounds so good, J looks so happy, Lou looks so hairy, and sweet Kyle hanging with the big dogs working so hard…then like the Grinch, I got an idea, a awful idea I’ll have to say, they should kick Murph out of the band but not tell him exactly…someone could send him a card that says something like…"when God closes one door…it’s in order to open another one" you know or "when you love something you have to set it free " something upbeat and spiritual, then just not call him for like, oh, I don’t know another 17 years.
My idea was much funnier last night, Now, on this Peaceful Sunday morning as I sit in the air-conditioner with my coffee writing this ….it doesn’t have me doubled over like last night while contemplating the Wikipedia entry for that one.
I think a great topic here could be…inspirational quotes we could all send to Murph…I’ve started with two from Shakespeare…two of my favorites:
The old classic:
poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
Macbethor perhaps I would go sweet and simple with
The course of true love never did run smooth.
A Midsummer Night’s DreamOh, Foona2..I know…so sorry to have fun with your language…my 15 year old read your post and she was like Mama…come on, he is saying he would enjoy it better if it was just pure J with a guitar.
Foona2, I spend a lot of time with my husbands family, they are from Colombia…there are 5 brothers in his family…all fire signs…An Aries, a Sag..then my Leo husband and then two twin Aries who are my age. Oh, and my Aries Mother-in-Law, When I met him..he told me be prepared for some teasing about my Spanish and for some probably not so gentle words to be spoken about it. I have developed a thick skin..and although, now after my years, my Spanish is pretty good, I still have moments where I have everyone laughing because I have said something that is totally incomprehensible. My favorite thing to do is to translate an idea from English directly into Spanish, especially idioms. "Mi Suegra" told me a few years ago, "you are speaking stupid Spanish on purpose in order to get a laugh out of every one, Why do you do that? It’s not very lady-like and not very becoming." ( she was right) Now as she is on what is probably her last few years with us, she tells me all the time "You are my only Daughter-in-Law who speaks Spanish and I love you most for that.
but..I know what it is like to be put through fire in order to develop a thick skin. So please forgive me for turning up the burner on you. Peace….
Oh, and I’m glad you are part of our Freakscene Family…..
