of course, just kidding about the tax returns, sometimes joking doesn’t come across with computer type…you know what I mean?

Totally went through the whole Bill Hicks collection over the past few weeks. His voice is needed now more than ever. When the “punch line” of your joke is “God is love and love is all there is, and if love is all there is there can be no opposite.” …”Cool Dad”! “I think that would be such a neat “trip” in a way, with your parents. That’s a perfect joke….Bill Hicks take on the “Family Trip”…I was laughing too hard!

Some of the first shows I went to see were big shows at venues like this. (first show in 1977) It’s really wasn’t until the mid ’80’s….and partly due to Dinosaur Jr. and other bands that I really saw how much fun live music could be in a smaller venue. I have a question for J Mascis…..really, I wish someone would ask this question in the next interview because I’m curious.
J Mascis…Are you making a lot of money doing what you do? I’m really glad you are not asking almost $100 to come and see you play. Your tickets are affordable but the last time you were in Athens I saw that you were driving that huge honking tour bus around. That thing must eat a lot of gas and I suppose you must rent it as well. Then, you have to pay to eat and of course you have to pay your “make music together friends” as my Japanese friend calls his band mates. Oh, and the other folks you have to pay….the sound guy, the guys that unload “the stuff” for you and other people, like the ones who make phone calls for you and stuff.

Hey, J Mascis, I’m curious, like Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, could you just go ahead and post your last years tax return? Curiosity killed the cat so, are you making lots of money…lots of memories, or both?

While I’m really just having a bit of fun drinking my coffee on a Sunday morning, I am serious, however about my curiosity. I’ve paid $10 fucking bucks to see Dinosaur Jr play not $100, Do musicians like J, Lou and Murph make a good living or is it like “tour and work your ass off just to keep your nose above water” (which is where I am in my life right now, but by the Grace of God, my house is paid for, Thank You!)
and it’s a pretty good life, if I do say so myself. Are you driving that tour bus to Alaska for the shows in March? (LMAO) God, that would be a good road trip!

Yeah, I know why it posted twice…the Universe really wanted to drive home the truth. :-S. She’s 14, She’s excited, we’ll make the best of it….always something interesting to do in Atlanta.

I’ve never heard of them but I listened to this song just tonight…while trying to get warm sitting in front of the fire…with my dog at my feet. It was a nice getting ready for bed song, and I got to say to my dog “you trying to make me love you”…because she was all up in my business tonight..like…PAY attention to me PLEASE.

Thanks guys, that was nice to hear some different music. Bluegrass really works best live doesn’t it? It’s all about the “speedy strings”……….enjoyed the the Mushroom with Eddie Gale also…of course, wished it had been miked better….nice groove music and the Seldom Scene…great bluegrass “Rider”. When I met my husband he was a huge Dead fan (and represented what’s his name, OMG…Jerry Garcia with his art, seriously, I couldn’t remember for a few seconds..my brain is starting to short circuit)
I wasn’t into the Grateful Dead at all…and he couldn’t stand Dinosaur Jr, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, etc. He would tell me that my choice of music showed that I wasn’t happy or comfortable in my own being. He said I listened to really sad, dark, uncomfortable music because that must be how I feel on the inside. All I needed to do was spend some time with him and he would set my soul off in the right direction (LOL). It was a funny beginning. He took me to my first Dead show…and I had the best time…he ordered extra tickets and let me…pick and choose from those standing around outside the venue…who I wanted to “make a miracle with”. Quickly, I saw his huge, warm, generous loving Leo heart and the rest is history…awwww.

I have had only one Sagittarius boyfriend and I was in my last year of highschool. He went to the local Christian school and he was VERY religious….but that didn’t stop him from being a rascal in all sorts of ways..Bill Hicks…”goat boy” comes to mind. That said…I have an old book that makes fun of sun signs and gives them “ideal” jobs that are funny. The Sag’s are always something “fast and full of fire and with a little God thrown in”….He was a race car driver and his name was “Lane” which is a cosmic giggle in itself……I found out many years later that he was racing cars during the week and was a preacher on the weekends…a race car driving preaching Sagittarius would have been a perfect addition to the astrological “joke book” but it turns out it was TRUE.

I posted this on my FB this weekend and I have to share it here. This was too funny. Bill Hicks mentions in interviews that his parents thought he would grow up to be a preacher…and he said…he would have liked to do that but he knew his ideas about God were a little left of center…in this clip…I was blown away, I’m always trying to find examples to use, to describe the essence of certain Sun signs and this AGAIN is classic Sagittarius….I know, J Mascis has said that “being a priest” was a thought he once had..I think it’s sort of in a joking way, I’m not sure, but here it is….Sagittarius Perfectus.…A little bit of hard truth, a little bit of laugher…and then shooting and aiming his arrow straight for the heart of God…A “heroic dose” followed by a “God lift me up out of this illusion” Yup..been there, done that…AMEN! Enjoy…..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVFJd94XRck

Hey SG, WTF…was that? Wow, I had a pot cookie about an hour before I sat and watched this and I was so confused…is this band for real…or a joke? The audience is laughing…I was so confused!

Juan Carlos came in the room after I had just finished listening to some Bill Hicks and I was still laughing out loud…and he said…”What’s so funny?” and I told him, I just discovered Bill Hicks…and he was like….”That Bluegrass guy?”…no dear, that’s Bill Monroe. He might be thought of as a little bit of a ‘hick but no, I’m talking about a comedian. He had a little bout of Gemini-tis as well.
On that note…Bill Monroe rocks…I’m not embarrassed to say, I loves me some good bluegrass music. When I was in elementary school, some of our teachers had a bluegrass band together and that was the first music I saw performed live, other than the church choir. It was always in the school cafeteria that had a little stage up front. I think, I must have been so happy to be out of the confines of the classroom and for that reason bluegrass music got stuck up my ass as something enjoyable. This is Bill, and his friends, playing from their hearts….I feel it!

F…this was supposed to be in Open Topic…I get really confused around here sometimes…Can someone nice move this to the correct area…I could probably figure out how to do it with the edit but that would take time and brain usage that I can’t render today. Sorry and Thanks. 😛

Talk about loosening the bolts on the ship!

If I could have only documented all the funny conversations I’ve heard at Dinosaur Jr shows…I know I’ve put a couple of them here but my days of going to shows is numbered…I can tell, which sucks. When my Dad (a Leo also with Sag moon, just like my husband) was my age, my sister and I would visit from college and say….”Dad, lets go out, lets go eat..then go somewhere!” and my Dad would be like “the only somewhere I’m going is to bed” and my Sissy and I were like WTF Dad…it’s like 7:30 PM. We were worried, we thought, he must be sick or something….Well, here I am the same age, and unless it’s an emergency, I don’t ever need to be anywhere other than my bed after 9 in the evening….and all y’all in your 20’s this too will happen to you some day.

One of my fav Dinosaur Jr conversations…and also a learning tool I can use to help my daughters understand the male human is as follows:

bitchy girlfriend is complaining that “ITS TOO LOUD, and I DON’T LIKE THIS” over and over. Then she leaves to go get a drink or to the bathroom and doesn’t come back.

First Friend Says…”Dude, I think your girlfriend left”
                      Boyfriend Says….”Yeah, that’s cool”
First Friends Says…”Yeah, THAT is cool Bro”

That about sums it up. Now if he had been a Pisces or a Cancer he would have run after her but these guys were like “Geez, what a relief” I was LOL!!!!

Nice Hans, I really like your style, so much about his band has been hashed and rehashed for years so it’s nice to see someone ask more interesting questions and nice for someone to take the time to answer.
Murph the babysitter..I love it! Those trusty Capricorns…when they get straightened out they are super dependable with the kids. Cancer/Capricorn dynamic! I had a Capricorn babysitter growing up, she wasn’t really into cutting loose and having fun with us, like some were…and if we wanted a cookie we had to get a napkin and a plate and sit down at the table, but she was a good listener. My Capricorn babysitter help to tell me the real story of the birds and bees because I had heard a rumor at school when I was in the 2nd grade but I was too embarrassed to ask my Mom so I asked my Cappie babysitter if that was the “truth”. She straightened some of my information out in a very comfortable salt of the earth way. That was nice…I was wide eyed and opened mouthed as I recall.

Thanks SG, I read that today. He also suffers from Gemini-tis. Was this band popular at one time? I only knew of Weezer from that Buddy Holly song because it was played a lot on the MTV. Wasn’t a big fan of that song…but reading about Rivers Cuomo was very interesting today…he is behind the move to bring meditation into the Alabama prisons. That’s cool.

It’s called “Gemini-tis”, its a chronic, life-long and sometimes debilitating condition.. Thank God for the freakscene, its sort of an ointment for the “itis”.

I had never heard of the band “Alabama Shakes” until they opened for the Drive By Truckers two nights ago. I think I have found one of my new favorite bands. They were AWESOME. The Truckers played three nights of music here and the house music before the shows was billed as “favorite songs from Patterson Hood’s collection” and the last song that was played on the house speakers last night before the Truckers set was this GEM from the Shakes…it’s called “Hold On” and it is the song that is thrilling me….this week! I hope you can enjoy it as much as I do!
