I always say "Sunlight brings the reds out in your eyes" this is probably wrong but I like it better.

I was in class when our prof mentioned it but I didn’t know what happened. There were tvs in the hallway and people were gathered in front of them. I had to go home because I was about to start crying. I’m not just scared for the Us but for everyone.

I think J just listened to a lot of punk rock, harcore, and black sabbath and ended up making music that was more personal and emotional and different that any of his influences. I think J was one of the first if not the first people to write indie rock songs about girls and personal feelings but now 80% of indie, punk, or emo bands are writing songs like his. dig.

Totally off topic but one of the things that bugs the shit out of me is people having a misconception of what Neil Young does everybody thinks he’s a lame Canadian country singer. Everbody should be forced to listen to Crazy Horse and his solo stuff before they can make an opinion.

            Anywayz,
On first listen to more light my favorite song was Whered You Go because of the chorus which is just so anthemic and catchy. My least favorite songs were waistin’ and i’m not fine. I agree that same day should be the next single or maybe back before you go because it’s lots of fun

my respect for George Berz went up tenfold when I heard that his name was pronounced Beers.

exactly, he learned playing by ear. discovered how chords go together by himself rather than taking lessons or reading books

I don’t think J knows any theory or technical things at all but he is the most passionate player ever and therefore is the best.

The reason that dinosaur is my favorite band is that all of there songs are great. Superchunk for example also have no bad songs but some songs are merely fine. Pixies and Pavement have bad songs. Half of sonic youth songs are bad in my opinion. but Dinosaur is always good to great. Although there is one song that I guess is great but I always skip "Don’t". I also have a problem with I’m not fine, I know that it’s supposed to be campy parody but I still can’t get past images of Kiss or Van Halen or someone in my head.

I love my dads record collection except for some of the stuff he bought in the eighties.
I’ve always felt embarrassed about my music and I wouldn’t leave my cds sitting around the house. One time I was blasting the live version of what else is new in my room and the part where it is just J alone soloing came on and I was closing my eyes in bliss and my mom came in my room and totally flipped "shut that off right now".
One time I was sending a photocopied transcription of feel the pain to a guy in california and my dad asked what song I was mailing and I wouldn’t tell him, just embarassing somehow.
I was playing seems like the thing to do really loud in my room and my mom came in and asked what it was and that it sounded nice but I wouldn’t tell her.

My dad once made a comment that the bands I listen to are just jamming, they never can play the same song twice, that was funny. used to think that I only played a bunch of noise on my guitar and we were walking by a dorm room on campus and some guy was playing the beginning riff of hero of the day by metallica on guitar and he was like "now that the kind of guitar I can listen to" Oh the irony.

Lou was an orderly at a nursing home and he recorded some old dude. check it out

CM: Who’s the old woman yelling at you on the second side of "The Freed Man"?
LOU:- I used to he an orderly at a nursing home and I taped everybody and she’s this woman who hated me – just hated me! And I used to tape her.
CM: That’s where you recorded the piece in the middle of "In A Jar", right?
LOU: Yeh, that was a guy who was being washed in a swirling bath and was senile so he was Convinced he was dying so he was screaming so I exploited it to its
fullest and put it in a song.

this is probably the most valuable interview I’ve ever read as to what was really going on in Dinosaur Jr or what J is really like (unless Lou was unfairly bashing him)
I think tapes refers more to poledo which was made with two tape recorders.

The movie you were thinking of was probably taxi driver "i’ll kill you, i’ll kill you, crazy son of a bitch"

I don’t know what it resembles but I know it’s not sampled. I think J said it was done by some lady who is a music professor
