When you say "the Blast First" CD do you mean the Just Like Heaven CD ?
Not something else ?I’m still trying to find out if "Freak Scene (censored)" and "Keep The Glove (different to Fossils)" was COMMERCIALLY available anywhere else apart from the Just Like Heavn UK CD single ?
Does anyone know if "Freak Scene (censored)" and "Keep The Glove (different to Fossils)" was ever released anywhere else ?, like as a COMMERCIAL "Freak Scene" single with those versions ?, or are they only COMMERCIALLY available on that Just Like Heaven UK CD single ?
Actually I’m interested to know about any formats that both of those songs have been released on…. ?

On don’t know if all of you guys read the reviews for the July 12th Melbourne show I was at but one guy wrote that one of the "highlights" of the show was "Rabbits".
(from another forum)
The first band, Regular John, was already thrashing about on stage. These guys were pretty rad, playing a very loud set of thrashy punk tunes. The most eye-catching element of their set was their outfits. Long sideburns with equally long on unkempt hair, topped off by tattered flannelette shirts, it was like being taken back to 1989, which was quite fitting considering the headlining band.
The next act was a complete change in tempo with Lou Barlow playing a solo set of acoustic musings. I’m not familiar with his work, but by the end of it I was well and truly smitten. What one man could do with only the help of an acoustic guitar was beautiful.
Then came the amps, a literal wall of Marshalls backed the band as they walked on stage. With a simple 1,2,3 by Murph the band kicked straight into the title track off Beyond, Almost Ready. All the new songs were killer, especially the 6 minute plus Pick Me Up, that ended with J shredding out one of the most breathtaking solo’s I have ever seen. The audience stood awestruck as he attacked his Jazzmaster, eyes closed, swaying back and forward as if in a rock ‘n roll trance.
The classics garnered the biggest reaction by the fans, with hits such as Little Furry Things, Freak Scene and Feel the Pain making even the most conservative punter nod their heads in recognition. After an hour on the Metro they left the stage, only to come back for a triumphant encore including the smash hit "The Wagon", and ending the show with there cover of the Cure’s Just like Heaven.
And then it was all over, leaving me buzzing as I walked out into the cold Sydney night.
In a time where prices are rising exponentially, it was great to see a night of true rock ‘n roll value. $45, 3 great acts and a first-rate time had by all.
I think this is from a local music street mag.
The guy seems like a bit of a dick.
He says Beyond is their first album in 19 years and that one of the highlights of the show was "Rabbits".
Dinosaur Jr
The ForumHuh, what? Pardon? Excuse me? Can you repeat that? Come again. A bit louder. What was that? Once more. You’ll have to speak up, sonny, my eardrums are marinated in sonic death. Heh heheh. One of the world’s most essential live bands, Dinosaur delivered the hammer on us. Though they themselves got hammered by the hammer too, I think. Tyrannosaurus-sized lashings of uncontrolled punishing sound walloped their ass, totally buried them. I figured the mix was shit but my mate Steve said the mix was legit, J just set his fucking volume control on 11 and drowned out the vocals and even Murph’s drums sometimes, which was a colossal drag. J, his colossal ego and his three-column Marshall stacks. J who’s looking more like Betty Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? everyday. Hey, J is hot, the epitome of handsomeness and the Wipers shirt only added to his delectability.
As expected the trio opened with Almost Ready, the blazing lead track off their first album in 19 years, Beyond. If ever there was a tune entitled the bomb ditty, it’s this one, though it took me a minute to figure out that that’s what it was due to the voluminous bleeding metal blare getting sucked up into the vacuum of the vaulted ceiling and also by the fact that the most effective new songs all sound like Freak Scene. J blew a speaker within seconds, smoke rising from the stack and a minder hustling about to remedy the situation. They replaced it and I was semi-permanently deaf.
The new stuff was as good as the old. Crumble, It’s All I Came To Do and Rabbits were massive highlights. Feel the Pain worked extra good because it had the finesse many of the other songs lacked. Lou needed a haircut and Murph needed to loosen his kit, it was way too stiff. His bass attacks were lackadaisical and savage (he and Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s hat man make excellent air bassists). Girl in front of me looked new to rock shows. She busted out an un-ironic air-bass that was much appreciated by her boyfriend who then alerted his mates, who turned and nodded outlandishly giving their pal the big Mentos thumbs-up. I’d like to apologise for burping African food into your hair singing “RABBIT FALLS AWAY FROM ME, BUT STILL I CRAAAAWL.â€
Here’s 3 different reviews :
They were awesome.
ECSR were brilliant too. Really great set from them.
Put my earplugs in. It didn’t seem as loud as I thought it’d be. Might have been
cause they were having problems with J’s amps and were replacing them during the set.
But his guitar sounded amazing anyway! Maybe too amazing! I would have liked to hear the
drums/bass and especially the vocals a bit more… but maybe that’s cause I was standing
against the rail a couple of metres from J. Probably half a meter to his right. =) His amps
probably drowned out the rest a bit. Played most of the songs I wanted to hear. Solo’s
were great.
I left the front and went up the back for the encore. and the mix sounded alot better back
there. Crowd was really good. No bottles flying anywhere =D
Great show though.
Fuck the show was pretty wild. The vocals really needed to be turned up though. Could barely
hear J singing. Lou’s vocals seemed alright though. Sludgefeast into Chunks was fucking
amazing*. Bummed there was no Mountain Man, Forget The Swan or Kracked. I was dying to see
those three songs. There was maybe a few too many from the new record, but they are touring
Beyond so you can’t blame them. Little Fury Things was fuckig rad. Been There All The
Time was really good too, as was Pick Me Up.
Wow!ECSR were ace. Brendan climbed on to a speaker and leapt up to the balcony. It was very
Pearl Jam Even Flow, he didn’t stage dive though. They played some new songs which was
nice.Dinosaur Jr were a little bit Dinosaur karaoke due to the vocals being mostly inaudible but
their instruments sounded great. I was against the barrier on Lou’s side, he smiled at
me when i beamed at him when they started playing Freak Scene. Freak Scene and Back To Your
Heart were my highlights.Great show.
Thanks guys !
It was definately an awesome way to spend the night of my B’Day.
In the setlist I hade a question mark next to "Forget The Swan" ? , I knew it was wrong when I typed it (a few too many drinks !), it was actually "Lose", so I’ve removed "Forget The Swan" from the setlist and added "Lose".
The show in Melbourne I went to was at THE FORUM, when I saw Dinosaur Jr in 1995 and 1997 it was at THE PALACE which happened to burn down the day before this years show !"Elbit " wrote:I don’t think he meant that i think he was just saying that it didn;t really hurt him too much. But if he would have gotten hurt and fell over or something he would have probably been killed by all the Dino freaks there anyways. But Iam not saying that the guy should have done it, he is still a cock box.
Yeah my post was not so directly intended at Fata Morgana as it seems.
His post says "why worry about it" because it was a can and not a bottle.
It makes it sound as though the guy who threw the can is not as much of an idiot as he would be if he threw a bottle…
What I meant is that I personally wouldn’t be as forgiving towards the guy who threw it, whether it was a bottle or can the guy is still an absolute fuckwit. Both these reviews I posted above mention J being a bit off or sloppy, also both mention that it was very loud and J and Lou were hard to hear…..
Must have been a loud one !(from another forum)
Good show. Fucking loud – I wore earplugs and my ears were still ringing…
I liked Feel the Pain – a few of J’s riffs were a bit off, but he nailed the end. Would have liked the wagon, but overall a pretty solid effort. Lou’s vocals were practically non existant, his mic seemed to be turned down or something. Most of the songs of Beyond sounded pretty good.
"fata morgana " wrote:Since it looked like a can and the damage seemed minimal, then, why worry too much about it? If J or Lou or Murph were clocked like David Yow, and I would have been there, forget about it. This guy would have found something else stuffed in his beer bottle. So just because it was a can you think it’s OK ?
"tom_in_chicago " wrote:wow … fucking cocksucker was proud of it as he was escorted out. Someone should have beat the shit out of him.I have not even heard anything about the guy who threw it at J.
How do you know he was acting proud of it when he was escorted out ?setlist updated in first post.
