J is now listed on the bill at the Showbox website (http://www.showboxonline.com”>http://www.showboxonline.com). Tickets $15 from the venue or through http://www.ticketswest.com”>http://www.ticketswest.com. This was a great bill a couple of years ago at the Experience Music Project. Doug has been a huge J fan for years. Is J still on any panels at Tape Op (it is the weekend before this show?)
Donfather, sometimes it’s better not to ask about the club policy (they usually say no!) SonicBoom and the Tractor are cool places–pretty laid back, not too many scenesters and no surly security. Take your stuff and give it a try and be sure to share with us!
He is heading out on tour next month opening for Doug Martsch of Built To Spill (who is releasing a solo album.) Tour dates at http://www.uprecords.com Good double bill for those who have to wait for J to make it to town.
There is a nice webpage for Mike at http://www.onewhiskey/mikejohnson for all the latest MJ news.
If you need one to promote his appearance the festival–contact his label or his management. Don’t download without obtaining permission or else you may run into copyright-licensing issues.
Hooray! Mike Johnson is opening for J in Seattle and Portland–maybe we’ll get to hear some Dino classics!
Looking forward to J in Seattle–hopefully, Mike Johnson will open for him (his new album should be out this summer.) A little Dino acoustic reunion would be awesome!
Last year he was playing with Caustic Resin and of course working with Mark Lanegan. He supposedly is working on a new solo album but I’m not sure when or what label will put it out since Up Records has apparently just become a catalog label. I saw this blurb in an article about Lanegan’s latest album (is this old news?):
"Speaking of Mike Johnson how do you feel about him heading out with J. Mascis and the Stooges guitarist Ron Ashton on a tour that sees their set split down the middle between Dinosaur Jr. songs and Stooges ones? " Hell I’ve being trying to get Ron to do that with me for years now. So it was a pretty big surprise when I found out he was doing that with Mascis. I always seemed to just miss off him when he was in town or when he was here he didn’t seem that much interested. Great idea though". http://www.wow.ie/music2/editorial/mint1816.cfm -
