it’s not a phaser he uses on Freak Scene, it’s an EH electric mistress flanger
I think most of the time he doesn’t use an amp, he’d use a Sansamp Para Driver DI or their Acoustic DI box, hooked up to the venue’s PA
Using this means it’s very easy to set up and get the same tone at different venues.
it’s a piccolo trumpet

One of the roadies came on stage during Chunks on some guys shoulders, gave Lou and J a pat on the head and then fell onto Murphs drum kit ! J kept hitting the headstock of his guitar on one of Murphs cymbals and then picked it up and threw it to the ground.
The best gig I’ve seen in 14 years of seeing Dinosaur live

sorry I don’t have a scanner……..
it’s from October 1994
I have that issue of Guitar World, they take him to Rogue Music in Manhattan and give J $500 to spend on whatever he wants, the only catch being that J has to answer their questions as he shops !
The fuzz face he bought has it’s original price of $39.95 written on the bottom of it…

I know that he used to use Dean Markley 10’s on his electric guitars. He would switch the .013" B string for a .014" – didn’t like the number 13 – I presume he still uses these……
Lou Barlow
what about the screaming on ‘The Little Baby’ – isn’t that J ?
Remember reading about this in an article somewhere in 1993 – from what I gather he talked about setting up Seaweed around ’89 – ’90. Dunno if anything ever came of it though
I have the DVD – it’s a region 0 version so it should play fine on any region 2 compatible DVD player.
