Well a little late but, I figured I’d throw my opinion out there:
First, HANDS DOWN the loudest show I’ve ever been to. In fact, too loud. I was just right of center about 20 feet back (In front of the mix board) and at some points all you could hear was the dead thud of a standing sound wave. That place is just too small to hold Dino’s sound.
The show was pretty good. And I actually think quite the opposite of what’s posted here: They were on fire until the mic incident. After that, they never could get it going again. They just seemed agitated. The result was a short set list and only two songs during the single encore. Nothing the band did in particular, just a bad set of circumstances. Sucky…
Other then that, my only gripe was J kept soloing over to the very far right of the stage, almost facing the wall when he did. Nobody could see crap except the lucky dozen or so people right in front of him. Man, I LOVED his tone, though: BIG, FAT, and CLEAR.
Highlights for me included an awesome Little Fury Things, No Bones, and The Wagon, which sounded especially tight. Oh, and the mic incident interrupted what was probably going to be the best song of the set: Raisins. It was also halarious to see the look on Murph’s face when J walked off the stage, followed shortly by Lou. He looked so confused. He turned one way, then the other, then did an "exit stage right" himself.
On a similar note: We were driving down Massecusetts looking at the sites when all of a sudden my buddy nudges me: There was this 5’10" long grey haired dude with big rimmed glasses standing by himself on the corner right on front of Liberty Hall: It was J freaking MASCIS! So, we park the car and head that way. The tour bus was parked on the corner by where he was, but no sign of J. S**t! So, we go into the show and buy a couple of t-shirts (and YLAOM on vinyl!) and walk back to the car to put up our stash. On the way back into the show, just as we were about to go back in, guess who’s walking right towards us: J freaking MASCIS, again! I readied myself and tried not to gush like a schoolgirl. By the way he was walking and looking down I could tell he didn’t want to be messed with so, I just asked to shake his hand and gave him the I’m- a- big- fan- you- kick- ass line. I’m such a dork. Still, nice to know I touched the hands that play all those great solos. Mark one more thing off my "Life’s to do list".
