        Mazzy Star- She Hangs Brightly

Double points if you get another band with Mazzy in it!

Have you listened to Jeff`s work with Uncle Tupelo and Golden Smog?

Not a real big fan. I fact, I felt Uncle T kinda kept Jeff resrained- he broke out when he was allowed to do his own thing. Strangely enough, I like Sun Volt, though.
I saw Wilco a little while back In Tulsa. Is Jeff Tweedy even human! What a virtuoso!

No way! How cool is that! How about that stuff in In a Jar. Sound like um… adult entertainment to me. OHHHHHH YEEEAAHHHH!!!

This topic has seemed to get a little off track so, I got an actual question. What the heck is all that "your killing me" stuff during the bridge of Raisins? It’s gotta be a movie dub, but what movie?

Well Ammaringnyc, gotta disagree but respect your opinion, I will.
Ya know, this reminds me of the in joke that Ringo is the second best drummer in the Beatles next to Paul. Poor Murph- no respect…
I find that most of the beauty in Dino’s music is related to the soft underbelly that is left just exposed enough to entice you to dig deeper. Start Choppin’ is the best example, and probably the most polished, I can come up with- the opening 20 seconds or so has so much going on under the main hook. I’m talking four or five layers of pure guitar goodness. Anyone know what I’m talking about? Isolate the tracks if you don’t, you won’t be disappointed. The older stuff has this to a lesser degree, but it’s still there: see Tarpit.

Yup, hillbilly’s don’t take lightly to punk riff- raff crowding out their honky tonk shows. Saw DRI on the hill in the 90’s, Mudhoney ,too. L-O-U-D-N-E-S-S personified. My ears are still ringing a decade later.
Saw Wilco a recently at Cain’s in Tulsa. OH. MY. GOD. Or should I say, OH. MY.JEFF.TWEEDY. Is this guy human?

I totally agree. But, Freakscene, No Bones, and They Always Come is a pretty stout lineup, too. Good topic.

A cylon! SWEEEEET!!! Anyways, J & D are technically similar, but definately not the same. Aesthetically- I say absolutely. They both have that desperate, driving sound I’m after. The biggest difference, to me, is that J’s sound ,at times, approaches that liquid smooth consistency only to retreat to the tortured, punk roots he knows best – and I love it. Goosebumps man, goosebumps….. Whereas Duane tends to stay in form, guided by his knack for modifying the same licks over and over. Think Blue Sky and Stormy Monday solos- baisically the same licks recycled.
I got flamed pretty good by stanner, whom I still disagree with (more rangy? c’mon), for that comparison in an old thread I tried to get going again (who influenced j). But, that’s why I like forums so much: Good healthy debate.
Also, ammaringnyc, I’ll eat my words because I spoke too soon. J kicks freaking arse on drums! I guess I just really didn’t pay much attention until I purchased YLAOM and Bug a few weeks back (yeah I know, pretty embarrasing). I love his eclectic style!

"…than the sweet, humbucker, in the pocket, honey coated BrotherDuane stuff…" = Halarious! Totally awesome! that’s gold.

"the NINERS kick ass on the steenkee Rams-yay" = YIKES! They would be at least decent if they just had an offense, defense and special teams (smile). I bet USC could hang 70 on em like they did the R’backs a couple weks back- how embarrasing…

I agree to disagree bout the D & J comparison. But the guitar wizardry- right on brother. If you kick ass, you kick ass!!!!
