I agree, their "greatest hits" is even called Ear Bleeding Country (?…). Try the solo on Mountain Jam about 20 minutes in. Any solo on Stormy Monday too, they both have that "fat" sound J has. And you’re right, Duane’s known primaraly as a slide player but, J’s sound and style always seemed quite suited for slide to me, I dont recall ever hearing him play with one though….
Dead ringer may be overdoing it a bit but, the similarities are uncanny. I’d like to ask J if Duane influenced him at all, maybe just coincidence. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m not dissing him- the guys a musical genius in my humble opinion. As a matter of fact, he’s probably one of the better, and underrated,  guitarists to come around in the last few decades (see Rory Gallagher).
What I mean is that with respect to his obviously superior guitar skills it’s not even close- and again, you gotta respect the versatility. I dig anyone who, in theory, could generate an entire album…by themselves!Guys, I’m telling you, this guys a dead ringer for Duane Allman (aka the greatest ever). Listen to the Allman Brothers Mountain Jam or Dimples and tell me there’s not some similar licks- and that’s DEFINATELY NOT a bad thing.
mmmmph….not so sure about J’s prowess on the drums. I’d say he’s servicable at best but, you gotta respact the versitility. Which brings me to a question- Does anyone out there think some of J’s licks sound like Duane Allman? He’s a dead ringer to me.
