I think for favorite bands, it’s the first album that grabs you so much you want to check out the other stuff. The other stuff, then, can’t live up to the expectations created when you first heard the band.
Good point and soooooooooo true! Your first impression will always govern your opinion of a band, good or bad.

"Better" is a relative term so, I try to stay away from "Band ‘x’ is better then Band ‘y’" arguements, just no way to argue fact, it’s all opinion as evidenced by SG’s post: He likes SFG, I think it kinda stinks. What’s cool to one person may not be to another, I respect that. And I can definately see where UT fans would have a hard time digesting Wilco, especially anything after Being There. A completely different sound, indeed. I just prefer the Wilco sound to UT’s and Jeff’s voice to Jay’s. That’s just me.

I still can’t got off this Dino/UT connection thing, though. I’m gonna scream out "Play Chunks!" at the next Wilco show I go to. Jeff Tweedy doing No Bones….funny.

WOODY Guthrie- Danville Girl
They rock. Very cool that you’re a fan and I definately acknowledge UT’s place in history but, I believe they come nowhere close to Wilco (or Son Volt, for that matter) when it comes to musical quality. I chalk it up to Jay and Jeff’s growing pains and try to draw the Beatles analogy here: For every Abbey Road there’s a Please Plese Me; for every Anodyne there’s a Still Feel Gone. Sorry, SG. And that UT covering Dino thing is definately a new one on me. Weird.
Personally, I think Wilco’s YHF is one of the top 25 or so albums of all time. The albums’ underlying theme and content (communication and it’s inherent flaws) combined with the conditions under which it was released is of Abbey Road proportions. Brilliant, just brilliant. And not a single wasted note. Incredible….And again, just my opinion, don’t flame me too bad.
The Strokes- Memphis- May 22
Rush- The Necromancer

REM- Daysleeper
I still say I don’t like REM, but….

UNcle Tupelo- Grindstone

"a band whose general sound is a four-track, punked-up version of Tom Waits’ RAIN DOGS outfit"
The best desccription I’ve ever heard….pretty cool band.
Yeeesh! These guys are going to have to do better than that.
Tupac? ABBA? Kaiser Chefs? In the top 20? C’mon….
How about "You’re better then my pillow cause you don’t stain so easily"?

They are all quite humble and you’ll notice how many times the singer thanks the audience for standing there while they play.Oh yeah, I wasn’t ragging the band. I just found it peculiar they set up their own equipment and later helped Dionsaur Jr too. They were really humble on stage and even hung out at the t shirt stand after their gig. Didn’t care much for their music, though….
DEVO- Freedom of Choice

Maybe he was just trying to assess the situation. I’m guessing he’s not like Jerry Sinefeld, according to Kramer he’s an antidentite. He was. In fact, when he came back out he mumbled something about "checking to see if his teeth were still there". He WAS noticeably pissed, though.
I thought that bunch of roadies that set up Preistess’ equipment was pretty good until I found out, er……that WAS Preistess. Seriously, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen a band of any weight set up their own equipment (and later help Dinosaur). Weird….
