I can agree with a lot of your points there mr. salami…I was with the SST vote at first and I would have stuck with it…but even though I love all those bands you mentioned (not sure about G. Hart’s solo stuff)…this stuff was when I was not of record buying age…( i do love the band ALL though on Cruz – they did the class "she’s my ex" and "scary sad") I’ve followed Drag City almost since it’s birth and i just know that a lot of the stuff I’ve not heard on that label is gonna be good because everything i have is top…my favorite is possibly King Kong’s Funny Farm album or the final Gastr Del Sol album…too hard to choose…I really want the two Burnout records.
the thing in the UK with Matador is…a lot of the bands have different labels over here…for example Pavement were on Black Cat at first and Superchunk were on City Slang, so we don’t realise how important that label was.
I only have two records on Caroline…the Neil Young Covers LP and the Guitarrorists compilation..both featuring J Mascis…(my reason for purchase I have to admit)
most recent purchases have been…Earthspan by the Incredible String Band – it is simply wonderful.
and Rush by Rush – vocal acrobatics a go go…Led Zeppelin wannabe’s – still rockin’ though.
got another Incredible String band Album entitled – Liquid Acrobat as Regards the Air – this now where near as consistent and a bit Irish Jiggy for my tastes.
also of note is the Ray Barbee Mini LP – Triumphant Procession – which is great if you like Sea and the Cake stuff without Sam Prekop’s (Robert Smithesque) vocals – on Galaxia rekkids…who also gave us the incredible Papa M sings Mini lp too…
see ya!
I missed loads of labels out…
Duophonic
Thrill Jockey
Warp
Trance Syndicate
Kill Rock Starscan these be added?
I voted Drag City too…although most of my favorite rekkids are on SST, Drag City has the consistency…SST went a bit shit after Dinosaur and Sonic Youth left
cheers mattman…
I shall now do some thinkage.

glad yr still diggin’ it dude.
I guess that migraine was a godsend or something (without wanting to get into any religious implications).
off the subject…
I worry that there’s gonna be more than a retaliation…I am essentially a pacifist so I wouldn’t like any kind of war to start let alone escalate…religion, politics, greed and selfishness is what spins this world…maybe I’m naive but I’d like to see more diplomacy involved and less anger-fuelled revenge-mongery………that’s all…anyway I’m English what what I know….
….back to subject…
check out my site dudes it gonna get better…
anyone know where i can grab about 20MB of webspace for free with no pop-up (essentially with an FTP server)??
explosions in Kabul…Pentagon says there is no US attack there?!

I’m still shaking with shock…
can’t believe those buildings’d collapse I’ve been to the top of both they were fucking giant, solid as a rock…
seen some guy jump out of a window…it’s very upsetting…makes you think what they’re gonna try next….
sorry folks this is fucked up…
where’s Mike Watt when you need him…to speak some sense?!
It won’t start a war…everyone’s on USA’s side…it’s terrorism…and therefore impossible to wage war against them…however I wish you had a Democrat as president at a time like this….
I am afraid…
check out http://www.southern.com for loads of info’s on US indie bands…Discord records is also linked with this site…it’s good and there’s loads of alternative Spiderland cover photos in the Slint section.
I bought The Seeds first album called The Seeds…it’s marvellous!!
garage-psych-tastic!!!
August 28, 2001 at 7:23 pm in reply to: www.eggwater.net – actually spent some time on my site #58002thanx folks.
I’m workin’ on the content as we speak…it’s looking fairly tasty…not flash…just some incredibly minimal HTML…I’ll keep you posted…it’ll have the the J Mascis and Fog pictures I posted a few months ago and also some seBADoh pics I took about 2 years ago.
It’s gonna be a kind of multimedia site for myself and my friends and I’ll be taking content from anyone really so long as it’s within the general sphere of things…
I quit my job last week so I’ve got a bit of time on my hands.
cheers
Adam
The Kurt Fedora chat was not too long after the original Sebadoh meeting.
It happened to be only a matter of days between the Sebadoh gig and the J Mascis solo acoustic gig (both incidently at the same venue). Kurt Fedora was playing back up rhythm guitar for Mascis but also did a solo set of his own which was quite beautiful, he played a Nick Drake track (Things Behind the Sun) and also a J mascis track from the Film Gas Food Lodging.
J had been in the audience watching Fedora and a lot of kids were approaching him which he seemed okay with. They were asking him for plectrums and stuff though which is kinda wack so I decided not to meet my ultimate axe wrestling hero…
as it was Kurt played on approx. two trax when j was on stage for the rest of the time he was stood in the audience near myself.
at the end of the show I struck up a conversation about Gobblehoof…he was impressed that someone in the UK actually knew of the band…so he told a few Gobblehoof stories and I also asked him what Murph was doing…he said he was playing in a new band (can’t remember the name now). I said i recognised the Nick Drake and Gas Food Lodging stuff..he was really happy that I knew this and it felt good to know that I made Kurt Fedora feel as famous as J for a brief while.
the Steve Shelley story is slightly bizarre and kind of rolls into the David Pajo story which is kinda kool.
I have harrassed the following:
David Pajo
Damon Albarn – Blur
Ian MacKaye
Kurt Fedora (Gobblehoof)
Gary Young (Pavement Drummer)
Mogwai (numerous occasions)
Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci (smoked things with)
Sebadoh
Reni (Stone Roses Drummer)
Steve Shelley
Chris (from Come)to name a few…all have fairly good anecdotes…take yr pick.
about 6 years ago i went to see Sebadoh and Smog at a place called the Boardwalk in Manchester UK. this was a apretyy kool gig in itself and got even kooler when Smog (tee totallers) gave their alcohol rider to the crowd. then they played an ace gig.
Then Sebadoh came out and were really charged they played all my favs and then asked if anyone would like to do karaoke…to which my friend Xian got up and sang Really Insane it was awesome.
After the show we were going to a party at another club and the guy who’s party it was managed to invite Sebadoh and they turned up. We got chatting to Lou and Jason and Bob Fay and it was a pretty good laugh. Someone had video’d the gig and Bob said he’d send us a copy of the vid with my friend singing…this never happened unfortunately…
I saw Lou again a few years later and tried to strike up a conversation but he was being a bit aloof (as Sebadoh had gained in popularity).
I always try and chat to rock stars most of the time they’re okay…I think you shouldn’t be scared of them.
I even talked to Ian MacKaye (king of straight-edge) when i was really drunk once. he seemed very nice.
ap
as far as I know Gobblehoof did 2 albums (one of which is a mini) a 7" single called Headbanger (a track from 2nd LP) and also contribute a cover version of Alone again Or (by Love) to a Love tribute album which came on 3×10" vinyl and a double 7" I think was on Chunk records in about 1994.
