I thought this was pretty good thread…maybe we take it from the Out There video perpective…people might show some interest.
and try and find out who all the revellers are at the fire.
I’m pretty sure the lanky one in all in one red fleece with the spastic helmet on is Thurston Moore.
doh…my American Geography ain’t what it used to be.
they look kool too. Big Fucking Gold Things!!!!
you will, you find better.
AKG K141!!!!!
they are awesome…trust me…
they cost me over 50 english clams though.
this translates to over 100 CADs!!!! bit more than yr sony’s
July 13, 2001 at 7:33 am in reply to: Need some help from you guys (name of cover song performed o #52923thanks for the information George…I will now be able to impress my friends with my superior knowledge of the Gobblehoof, Dino, Deep Wound history.
just one more question: What about Mr. Gaffney?
I saw a CD by him when I was in New York…but other than that he’s disappeared.
I think you’ll agree that he was quite a character…’member seeing Sebadoh and he recommended that the Kids (audience) do heroin.
fucking genius.
sorry the URL was
http://www.akg-acoustics.com/english/headphones/index.htmlI bought these…the guy in the shop said they were the best…I have to agree they are tremendous. AKG K141 Monitor.
July 12, 2001 at 2:24 am in reply to: Need some help from you guys (name of cover song performed o #52921I’m sure Gaffney is on the live photo on the insert of the 12" – maybe they just thank him.
I’ll check it out when I get home from work.
As for my Gran. Her ears definitely reacted to some Gobblehoof sound…I exageratted somewhat though (artistic license an’ all)…it was on my sister’s 21st. She was sat in our living room to "chill out" I was listening to ‘freezerburn’ with some mates who I dragged home from Uni…thought it hilarious at the time. This was number of year back now…My gran didn’t move so I guess she dug those heavy rock sounds.
ha hah…I’m such a bullshitter at times…all the above was true though.
July 11, 2001 at 10:52 am in reply to: Need some help from you guys (name of cover song performed o #52917I’ve got both Gobblehoofer’s they’re ace. I like the first one, though my Gran prefer’s ‘Freezerburn’ it’s more rockin’ (I played it her on her 70th birthday bash). On Mike Watt’s New Alliance label too…how things integrate…it’s astounding!!!!
Incidently I’m sure Eric Gaffney appears on the first Gobblehoof album…this is interesting for all you Sebadoh fans out there I imagine.
Spoke to Kurt Fedora once many moons ago when J played acoustic in Manchester, UK. He was quite the gent…he was really pleased that I knew Gobblehoof.
What are all those Deep Wound, Gobblehoof guys up to now then??
(for Salamiguy) Cack is a word we use in UK meaning shit…it rhymes with WACK…know what I mean.
Yeah they did have an Ex-member of Stereolab can’t remember who…they were just really boring…the bass was hardly the most memorable aspect of MBV (apart from that SLOW tune on the b-side of YOU MADE ME REALISE) was it?..it was like some kind of drony riff rock…just a bit uninteresting really.
think they only released two 7" s.
I saw the gig with Come and Bettie Serveert, it was the loudest gig I’ve ever been to.
awesome.
MBV were ace…I was 15 and just blown away…I remember the BLUR vid…the guy took a dump on some plastic sheet on the carpet…then it went backwards remember…the shit curls of the sheet and back up the guy’s arse etc…it was bizarre. Blur were shit though…
SNOWPONY played on the last Dinosaur tour in the UK if I remeber rightly…they were Debbie Goodge’s (MBV bass player) band…pretty cack I remember.
That Thurston tour diary is amazing…I have a photocopy of it from when I was at UNI. When I was feeling low I used to read that and cheer myself up…it’s fucking hilarious.
just ordered that book from Amazon…it’s 16 quid in the UK – can’t wait till it’s released. All my favorite bands – hope there’s some god Pettibon cartoons in it – I love that guy – has he ever released a book of his SST artwork??
question is: does it matter?
Rich is tripe like Elton John, Phil Collins et al churning out vile filthy ballads – seems you get rich, lose yr integrity (if it was there in the first place) release whatever the fuck you like so long as it’s overtly mersh keep raking the bucks in.
If Mascis was rich would he be hoofin’ across Europe cramped in a Mercedes Sprinter with no toilet (see Mike ‘piss bottle man’ Watt)?
my guess is his old man died left him a fair bit of cash (he was a Dentist!!!) with which he sensibly invested in a couple of properties and a studio…as far as I know Where YOu Been and Green Mind sold the most copies so he probably made a bit from those but probably not too much or else Warners wouldn’t have dropped him quite so easily (am I naive?!)
Just one more thing I have a friend who works in a record shop…in this one shop he says at least one old dinosaur jr record is sold every week (such is the fortune of creating two very influential LPs in BUG and YOURE LIVING ALL OVER ME) multiply this fact across all record stores in the Europe, USA, Australia, Japan etc this adds to the royalties no doubt –
nah – Mascis ain’t rich but he makes a respectable income I reck’
Did I answer my initial question? Fuck knows I forgot about it when my mind went off on one.
see ya
