Hound Dog Taylor And The Houserockers-s/t:the Alligator label had some great blues releases in the `70s.Hound Dog`s band was two distorted like hell guitars and drums.Almost like blues punk before blues punk.
Allman Brothers-Live At The Filmore East:long guitar solos that don`t get boring.
Terje Rypdal-Odessey:ECM records had some of the best records of the `70s.Jazz that was contemp enough to attract rock fans.Rypdal seems to balance the jazz rock and prog worlds well.
The Damned-Damned Damned Damned:one of the great punk debuts.Raw,messy, energetic
Clifford Jordan-Glass Bead Games:acoustic jazz was rare in the funky `70s.This upholded Coltrane`s legacy.
Eberhard Weber-Yellow Fields and The Following Morning:german bassist who played a standup electric with a cool sound.Kate Bush took notice,he played on alot of her records.
John Abercrombie-Timeless:another ECM classic.Abercrombie is too humble to be a guitar god but at least people are realizing how good he is these days.
Tom Waits-Heart Of Saturday Night and Blue Valentine:while his `80s stuff is weirder, his `70s output is more of a strange singer-songwriter.Blue Valetine is one of his better blues/jazz albums.
King Crimson-Red:loud prog!Fripp,Wetton, and Bruford was one hell of a unit.
Donald Byrd-Eithiopian Knights:one of the greatest jazz funk records!
Renaissance-Turn Of The Cards:classical influenced prog rock.Great female vocals.
The Clash-s/t:another fine punk debut
Stiff Little Fingers-Inflammable Materials:I checked this out because Girl loves it,she`s right! Some of the best punk is here.
Albert Collins-Ice Pickin:one of the better blues records of the `70s.Funky Texas blues.
Lee Morgan-Live At The Lighthouse:Morgan`s death from a gunshot(by his girlfriend)in 1972 was a huge loss to the jazz world. This 1970 live album with extended songs shows how brilliant he was.

And I realise I’m really stupid when it comes to decades, not only had I forgotten that velvet underground released their banana in the 60’s, I have also completely forgotten that the stooges released their debut in the 60’s. 1969, no fun, I wanna be your dog, no fun, real cool time. Terrific !The Stooges debut is good but they went over the top on Fun House and Raw Power.I think I should do a fave `70s list sometime.

I think my favorite Hendrix song is Voodoo Chile, not the slight return but the long slow blues on Electric Ladyland.Fave MC5 song would be Kick Out The Jams
Flogging Molly since it`s St Patrick`s Day:

I have no idea who Donna Summer is, so I’m gonna award you an indie point right there
She`s a black lady in the `70s who met a german producer(who she married)and had some disco hits. She had some hits into the `80s as well.
"Robert" wrote:According to my parents I knew evey song on revolver by heart when I was 5. By that I mean that I used to sing what I thought was the lyrics, but granted that I didn’t speak a word english I’m not sure it would pass as knowing every song by heart really. The same goes for born to run by springsteen. When I was 5 I was into Donna Summer,Village People, and the Bee Gees
I never even heard of Springsteen til Born In The USA came out."Robert" wrote:"essgee09" wrote:I used to hate the Stones when I was a kid.I don`t know why. When i was about 16 I got into them.I have a vinyl copy of Through The Past Darkly(their 1966-69 singles) but the first side is trashed with paint.Ruby Tuesday kept skipping on ‘lose you mind’ the other night
side 2 is in better shape.I used to hate them as well, and just as you I have no idea why. Maybe it was just a childish feeling that it was the stones vs the beatles, and I really loved the beatles from I was about 5 or 6.
Ruby tuesday is a great song as well, I’ll have to search for that one as well tomorrow.I did`nt get into the Beatles til I was 14 really.

Do you have an operating turntable now, I seem to remember that we discussed vinyl some years ago and your turntable was out of order or something to that extent. If I find any used stones lp’s tomorrow they will actually be the first stones in my collection.
Come to think of it, that’s kinda strange, having never owned a single recording by them.
Isn’t it ?I got a new turntable a few years ago.My old one lasted a long time. From 1989 to 2004 or so.I never changed the needle! It was sensitive to dust while the new one is sensitive to scratches.
Vinyl is hard to find around here.I found a store last summer that had some though!I did`nt get a chance to go back. They did`nt have alot but still a few hundred was cool to look thru.

side 2 is in better shape.Play With Fire is cool indeed.I have the Singles Collection on tape.4 tapes of their 1963-71 singles plus their b sides.I should`ve bought the vinyl!
"Robert" wrote:Ah, reason to rummage through the used record stores
I’ve allready got Hermans Hermits, Rolling Stones let it bleed on the list so this’ll make for a nice hunting tomorrow.Sounds good
I should mention that the Lester Young album I mentioned is also called The President Plays.Exile On Main Street by the Stones is another one of their best you might want to check into.He did more than 78`s.My favorite album is With Oscar Peterson from 1952.
"Robert" wrote:The Monkees – Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd + their debut albums.
I know The Monkees are frowned upon in certain circles, but not in mine.
They don’t exactly delwe into the depths of the human psyche, nor do they explore uncharted musical territory, but there are plenty of other bands that takes care of that. They`re often thought as a sub par Beatles and their tv show did`nt help them thought as serious. The usual hits on radio only give a little look into what they were about.

I forgot to mention the title track is an old Bessie Smith tune from the `20s."Robert" wrote:Bought the vinyl today. Listening to the Crane Wife 3 as we speak
